fozcycle
Well, things do turn around. Three weeks ago I shot a personal best 88 at Plantation Palms GC, where I play on Tuesdays. Last week I shot a 97, one of my worst rounds there. Today, I shot an 87, a new personal best there. I shot 44/43:87 with one birdie on par 4 #15(280 yds) and one penalty on #6. Grand Stranded
So today was the first round of our Tuesday Mens League Championship. As I've mentioned, the Pro Shop runs it. Top 50 money winners play off the first two Tuesdays, the top ten in both gross and net advance to the third week, when we reset and play for the title. They had the tees all the way back, and tucked a lot of pins. I shot 87 net 74 which surprisingly had me 8th in gross, and 5th in net. Not where I want to be, but a LOT better than I thought that score would end up. My guess is a lot of the guys who were sneaking up to the green tees during the season must have really struggled today playing the whites again, but who knows? I made a dumb mistake on 18, thinking I needed to make something happen. I went for the green in two, hit a horrid 3 wood that didn't come close to carrying the hazard. Took my drop, hit a poor SW short of the green chipped to 3 feet, but missed the bogey putt for a 7. UGH. It evens out though I guess. Earlier in the round I holed out for birdie from a bunker, and got up and down on the next hole with a great 52* shot to 5 feet after another(!!!) shot into a hazard, this time a skulled 8 iron. The irons were a little better today, but still nowhere near where I should be, I've decided I'm going to go against my previous plan to keep my old irons in the bag until this event is over. I'm going to bag my brand new 0211's Thursday and Saturday with my other two groups, and sink or swim with them come next Tuesday's second round in this event. MaxEntropy
I almost had a great evening in league tonight. A birdie, 4 pars, 2 bogies, a double, and a quad, of all stupid things. I don't feel like a made bad decisions on the 8, just poor execution put me in two different water hazards. Ugh. I ended up shooting my handicap, which I'll take. The birdie was worth a skin - this is my third year in this league and I can't recall ever winning any skins, so two weeks in a row?!?!? Hades must have frozen over. gavinski91
Got a quick nine in after work yesterday with my dad and brother. Grabbed a small bucket of range balls before our tee time to warm up with my 7 iron and Driver. Took about 15 shots with the 7-iron and struggled to make clean contact, but the last 5 balls that I saved for the driver I absolutely striped dead straight down the range. It was an omen of how the round would go. Driver off the tee was the best it's been all year for me, with 4/7 FIR. Irons on the approach were more of a struggle though, with a lot of thin strikes going long, and fat strikes coming up short - ended up 2/9 GIR. BUT, my misses were close, my chipping around the green was excellent, and despite the heavily aerated greens I managed to only 3-putt once. Popular Post alfriday101
A bittersweet round of golf today. The Geriatric Golfers are a foursome that have played together for 43 years. I sub in on a regular basis when one of the group is out of town, even though I am 10 years younger than them. The group started playing a best shot about 10 years ago when one of the members had a stroke and could only chip and putt. Two weeks ago we played and one of the regulars was dragging. He was undergoing chemo. Two days later he went into the hospital and didn't come home. He passed away on Sunday. I joined the other three regulars for Geriatric Golf today. We were joined by Mark's 30 year old son and 5 year old grandson. We played a match of old guys v. the two youngsters, but the match really didn't matter at all. We told stories about Mark, remembered great, and not so great, shots he hit over the years. We shot ten under, which equals our best round. A fitting send off to a good friend, who will be missed. tony@CIC
Was able to play a course in western Massachusetts today I have never played before called Crumpin fox with my dad Placasse61 my uncle Tim and cousin TJ. It is pretty highly regarded around here and it lived up to everything it’s been hyped up to be. If you’re ever in Western MA do yourself a favor and book a tee time. Had a 41/45 and really struggled 10-14 when some rain came in but was just a great round overall for my first run at the course. 7 pars 8 bogeys 3 doubles. Had my opportunities for multiple birds and just didn’t roll any putts. Burned several edges just nothing dropped. here are some of the views: Awesome colors. I love Fall golf and especially the "leaf rule" which is no penalty if you can't find your ball.
