Rickp
Monday morning Exec 9. A course I’m not crazy about but that’s the way it is. I played well and irons and Hybrids, yup Hybrids we’re really good. Managed 2 Birdies but 1 double and 2 bogies to take edge off, +2. Eight hole playing 175 yards one of the guys hit the pin. Lucky the ball only rolled 2 feet away so easy Birdie. Close to Hole in 1!!! gavinski91
Had a decent front nine on Saturday at North Bellingham. Immediately after the turn things fell apart though, and I shot an 8 on the par-4 10th. At that point I gave up hope of scoring low and just started focusing on my approach shots. It was pretty windy, which was making things difficult. Eventually though I felt like I had figured out my irons decently well, and went on a run where I made par or better on 4 of 5 holes. I hit a good drive on 13, and followed it up with an excellent 8-iron approach. I was feeling good after that, and stuffed my wedge to 4 feet on the next tee shot (2 putt thanks to atrocious green conditions). And then, after my approach on 15 found the greenside bunker and I two-putted for bogey, I was ready to go after it on a hole that I had previously never even managed to hit the green on: At the end of the day I managed to finish with an 87 (+1 net), losing out to my future brother-in-law by a single stroke in gross scoring (which I'm happy with, considering he's a single-digit handicap). Still struggling off the tee, and probably had 4 or 5 putts that were rolling in and got knocked offline by craters, so I feel like breaking 80 is definitely in the cards for this season! Popular Post DStar
1st strokeplay comp of the season on Saturday. Played pretty steady, got up and down really well so pleased with the new SM8 wedges. Also used my new putter for the 1st time on the course and it worked really well. Great feel and really good speed control on the greens that are starting to roll true and gaining some extra zip to them - 31 putts. Driver & 3W worked pretty well, some really good drives. Really enjoying the -Pro V1x for a bit of extra distance and seems a little tighter too. Ended up with a nett 71 (1 under) but had a tough break on 18 where the ball hit a stone and ended up OB so finished with a 7 Had a 0.4 cut so going in the right direction.. Popular Post juspoole
Was fortunate to go on a customer golf trip last week to Kiawah and played 4 times. Game left a bit to be desired since it was my 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th rounds of the season, but we truly had perfect weather and great company. We started with Cougar Point, then played the Ocean Course, Osprey, and finished with the Ocean course on day 3. My pitching and chipping were the stars all 3 days and kept my scores lower than they probably should have been. Cougar Point - Nice layout, good round to get us started. A bit tighter driving holes on this course than the others. Drove the ball well most of the day. Approach and putting not stellar. 80 with 3 bogeys, 3 doubles and 1 birdie. Ocean Course - This course can bring some high scores quick. I think the lure of the moment got to me a bit. Overall I think the course is actually playable and scoreable. 39 on the front with a double. 44 on the back with 4 doubles. Driving was atrocious and I was not sure where the ball was going half the time. Two way miss is not fun on this course. 5 double bogeys. Ended up with an 83. Osprey Point - Really liked this layout as well. Different from the other two and some nice holes. Driving was a little bit better. At least keeping more on the face of the earth this time. Went 38/40 for a 78. Ocean Course - Putting completely left me this day. Actually put a decent round together, but the yips were back. Scaring me for what's to come this season. A good amount of greens in regulation, but not many actual birdie chances since I was about 30 feet away on most holes. I did not track putts, but would not be surprised if I had 8 three putts. Greens were not that fast or undulating, so it was just poor efforts. Pitched and chipped the ball great and actually chipped in on 18 for a birdie from just off the right side. Ended with another 83, but felt a little better this day. Only 3 doubles this day. Hopefully I am able to go back one day. Definitely a cool place to play especially after last year's PGA Championship. I'll have to start planning the outing for next year now. Not sure where it'll take me. Popular Post Kenny B
Played today with my wife and her brother from Seattle. Sunny and 56º with a few clouds and wind maybe 10-20mph. This was my best round in months, maybe all year. 42/36=78... helped by 0 doubles and an EAGLE!! That's right! This old man made an eagle on the par 5 #13 hole with my 60º from 50 yards after a nice drive and a great Heavenwood shot. Ball landed a few feet to the left of the hole and jumped sideways into the cup. I was also 3 of 4 sand saves for par; one from a fairway bunker on the par 5 #6 hole and greenside bunker saves on the par 3 #12 and par 4 #14. I made bogey from the sand on the par 3 #15 hole because the sand was wet underneath the top layer and I didn't play it correctly. Popular Post Tom the Golf Nut
I had my first charity golf outing of the season yesterday. It was a scramble format. The course was wet and it was cart path only so no rollout in the fairways. The ball sat and splat. It was also windy as heck and cold. The greens were hard as a rock too. It seemed like they were still frozen. I was paired with two guys that were ok golfers and could hit the ball a long way. You just didn't know if the ball would be in play or not. But when one was, we were a long way out there. Luckily they allowed anyone 60 and over to play from the senior tees so I got to move up. My fourth was there for chipping and putting as he hasn't played in years. So on one hole as an example playing from the senior tees I hit a perfect drive down the right side of the fairway 240 yards leaving a great angle to the green. Then I give the long hitters the green light. From the white tees one guy bombs one over 40 yards past me from further back. It's good to be young! The other guy was deep in the woods somewhere. But the day went well and we had a good time. They put a lot of pressure on me on many holes, which I enjoy. With nobody on the green or in the fairway I had to step up quite a few times. We didn't break any records or anything but we did shoot 8 under with no bogies. We actually tied for first place in "B" flight but lost on the score card hole by hole playoff. I'm thinking 2nd place wasn't two bad, but then I found out they were only paying out first place. The other bummer was I missed winning a 50" TV on a closest to the pin as it rolled right past the pin just out of contention and by less than 6 " on another. First one of the season and I was pooped. Left the house at 10:00 am drove an hour, checked in, then they had lunch for us. Played golf, then the awards and didn't walk back in the door until 8 pm. Popular Post pulledabill
Not much golf thanks to injuries other than range since last August. My last injury was fractured ribs thanks to acting 20 on my quad. A month ago I played a so so 9 holes. A couple weeks ago I shot a 98! Mind wasnt in it and I didnt trust my swing change on the course. Not a clue. Not 1 fairway hit. Topped long irons and skulled wedges. I left feeling very dejected. Last night with the wet weather I knew the course would be empty and I had the intentions of just focusing on new swing, routine, trust my swing, and hitting multiple balls. Went out cold and started on 10 which is a 130 par 3. Hit 9i stick high on fringe so I said lets just play it. Up and down. 11 is # 1 hdcp. Contemplated driver but went 3w as water is 255 out. Smoked driver 10 yards short of water. I was shocked. Punch 8i to green and 2 put par. hmm..whats going on im thinking. 12 is a par . Hit driver and fairway. Hit bad 3w which and left 5i to back of green back stick. par 13. another fairway, green and par 14. I got back on my heels and didnt catch all my driver and leaked it to 1st cut. Long 2nd shot left me short of green and a missed putt. bogey 15. par 16..I got cocky and took an aggressive line with my 5w and took out a house OB right. toed it a bit..ugghh. double 17. par 18. Found some trouble on long par 5. I had 100 out with up and down over water needed for par. Tried to stick my pw to a tight right green but missed about 5 ft right of green but stick high. Bogey. Since it was soggy I could see my alignment was off and I hit it right where I aimed. Popular Post MattWillGolf
The snow is gone so I got out for 9. It was a balmy 39° with wind. I had possibly my best drive ever on the 1st hole but alas the second shot was most forgettable. I still struggle with uneven lies. Must work on that. It was just great to be out. My putting continues to be the best part of my game. Only one 3 putt. The more I putt with the Evnroll ER11v, the more I love it. In general since switching back to my Ping G25 irons, I’m seeing improvement in that part of my game. Popular Post Golfspy_CG2
So I know this is the How Did You Play thread, so I'll get that out of the way first. 46 for 9 holes today. But now the real reason, I'm posting here. I put this in the T Series Iron thread, but in order for more to see it and hold me accountable, I'm putting it here as well! So first round (9 holes) with the T300's of the year. After geting the Mizuno Pro 223's early in the year, and the Wilson D9 Forged a few weeks ago, I gave each of those---well not a fair share, but a bit of a chacne. With a couple important rounds coming up this week, I took the T300 back out today to get the feel for them. I have just one question. Why, Why, Why am i even messing around playing any other iron. These were last fall when I got them, the best irons I have hit in many years, and they still were today after sitting in my office the better part of the last 5 months. One thing I noticed today, that I probably knew before but had forgotten. You know how those that love to play blades, say "They let you know exactly when you miss it' Well these do too, but in a different way. I hit a few near perfect shots today with a 9 iron and a couple 6 irons. They sounded as good as any players club out there upon impact and felt just as good, and most importantly flew high and far. Then Ihad a couple that at impact made a bit of a clack sound, something you'd expect form a big traditional SGI club. And the resulting shot was definitely less distance that the soid ones. Not really enough to get me in any serious trouble, but just came up maybe 10 yards or so short of thje green, or in once case barely on the fron fringe when it was a way back pin. So you could tell via the sound they weren't hit pefectly and the resulting shot confirmed it. So not near as harsh as feeling the sting all the way up your hands and arm when you mishit a blade or something in that category. Popular Post Sluggo42
Shot even today, mostly thanks to an oddly hot putter. Made 3 birdie putts from 20-30 feet, and then one about a foot away on 18. Didn’t Shoot spectacular golf, but very steady. Putter was the star of the day. Weird. Popular Post fixyurdivot
Well, I managed to sneak in my first round of 2022 at Madison Meadows today. It's been over two weeks since we got back from AZ, cold and snowing. But today was partly sunny with a high of 48F and moderate winds 8-12 mph. Blue jeans, thermal underwear, and pullovers was the attire. There were patches of snow from the storm last week, but overall no problem. I did have to lift several balls out of snow and fortunately missed flying into any of the large deep drifts as I'd have not likely found the ball. Not another person on the course, so I played 2 ball... to include a new one that was not among those tested at the MGS Lab. Holy heck does the game patina return quick. I definitely felt rusty and it was a mixed bag of flush hits and clunkers. I ended up with a 42/44 and a 40/45. I needed @DaveP043 for a ruling on this one . There were a few approach areas that had seen lots of deer, antelope, and elk this winter... natures fertilizer. My best hole of the day was #12 par 3 at 164, uphill, into the wind. I had it playing at 177. I hit my 5i and got both balls on the green. I missed the short putt, but made the long one... go figure . Fan Mountain is the peak above the pin. The photo dosen't do a very good job showing it but its rock face catches snow in a manner that resembles a pleated fan. I always loved this courses flag logo... wouldn't surprise me in the least if one went missing someday . Trying to keep myself in top form for the PNW Spy Meet-up in late June . On the 6th hole I birdied but so did my Cart partner. I play Yellow Titleist balls, Cart mate also birdied and he switched to a Yellow Balls recently. A coincidence? I think not…. I forgot an important thing as well. At the pro shop at the course I was playing, something caught my eye. I believe @Yellow Ball has started an add campaign to get everyone to switch to a YB.
