Got out to a local club this morning I didn’t play last year other than a tournament.

they have been doing a ton of tree work which is nice to see because the greens and tee boxes were getting shaded out. Should be a really good year for them can’t wait.

This course is one that chews me up on the front and plays a little more to my strengths on the back. Shot my best I have ever shot there today. 41/38.

271E9A8D-AF7E-49D2-A177-4FD63204F99C.png.86a28384b1f6b32f18756fee506e7d30.png

1 bird, 10 pars, 6 bogeys and a lone double (penalty on a par 3 dohhhhh)

Other than in the first hole where I smoked my 3 wood I struggled with it, and the front requires a lot of non driver shots that I didn’t do spectacular with. I made up for my woes with really strong wedges and putting. Easily saved multiple doubles with that play and even scrounged pars from a few which is such a good feeling.

I got into a groove 9-15 where everything was clicking. Went par, par, birdie, par, par, par.

the course is a beast to walk and by 18 my legs were toast. I topped my driver and 2 hybrids and was still 110 out. Came up 10 yards short with my gap and ended up chipping in from about 20 yards to save a sub 80 round

Got drizzled on for a bit but was an absolutely great day to be out

This sort of comment is how you end up with the ban hammer sir! 😂

I remember when my uncle first moved to FLA for more than half the year he was saying similar things to me during a snow storm haha

I'm still waiting on my first round of the year.  Coaching two youth baseball teams is not going to help my weekend round count in the Spring.  I'm dying inside to get out there though.  Might have to do an Easter morning round with my dad, brother, and oldest son so it can be considered family time!

Man, I feel this on such a personal level.  My team is mid-season right now. Doubleheaders multiple times every week and weekends. Gotta love that baseball life! Really hurts the golf life though. I've only been able to get out and play 1 time since September! Hopefully you New Englanders can get out there soon for some well deserved "family time".

Managed to sneak out for 5 holes after the rain last night. Needed to give the new putter a go before a comp on Saturday.

Par, bogey, par, birdie, par 🙂

100% fairways hit, 4/5 GIR & rolled a nice 15 footy for birdie.

I've also been trying a new practice method I like to call 'odds & evens'. As evenings are a bit tight for time to get round I carry so, to make things lighter and help practice using different clubs for different shots, I alternate from odd numbers and even numbers. Last night was odds - 3w, 3h, 5, 7, 9 & 2 wedges.

It seems to be helping as I'm not relying on a certain club for a set distance. Learning to take a bit off or use less of a full swing..

It was the last "fun" night for league with the official start next week. In the four 9's I've played this spring, I've been at or under my handicap every time, which hopefully bodes well for the season. Even though the weather was great yesterday (sunny and 70), the course was probably the sloppiest I've ever seen it thanks to rain most of the day Monday. I swear much of the round I felt like I was pushing my cart on a beach and I normally avoid walking on the path to not chew up my spikes. Early drives were playable, but push-fades, so I think my path was OK, just not getting the face square at impact. Made a minor adjustment and the last three drives started left and faded in, which is my goal. Irons were OK - distance control was good, but I was pulling almost everything. Alignment issue? Short game was a bit of a disaster, but I want to blame the soggy ground. It always causes mental issues for me since I feel like I have to be more precise when the ground is so soft. I ended up with 3 pars, 5 bogeys, and a double. Forecast for next week doesn't like great right now. Hopefully that changes as we get closer.

First 9 hole league night last evening.  Great weather for April....high 60's and sunny with very little wind!!

I played better than I'd hoped so the @Yellow Ball negative karma has officially worn off!!  😁

One bogey and one birdie with 7 pars for a 36.  They took it easy on us with the tee boxes set up shorter and the greens  running slower than normal but I'am not complaining!

My partner had the shot of the day by holing an 88 yard wege shot on a par 5 for eagle!!  It was a beautiful shot that hit about 4' in front of the pin and took one hop right into the cup.

My birdie was on the other par 5 (our 2nd hole) after crushing my drive and getting a big helping bounce on the cart path but pushing it slightly right into a pond.  The big bounce left me dropping about 200 yards from the green and my third was a laser of a hybrid to 4' and I sank the putt.  That was slightly demoralizing to my opponent who congratulated me on sinking the par putt before his partner corrected him that it was a birdie.  😉

He also had really bad luck losing the head off his driver on the third hole and having to use his 3w the rest of the round.  Yardage wise it shouldn't have made much difference the way the course was set up but I think he was trying to kill it and had mostly wayward tee shots.

I ended up getting 7-1/2 of the 9 possible points for the evening.

Played at Windmill yesterday and it was like playing and walking on a sponge. Lost a few balls in the fairway due to plugging. We could see where they hit but just couldn't find them because they'd gone deep. So drop in the area and keep going.

Ended up carding a 43/39 82 for the first "official" round of the season. Which put my handicap down to a 14 even.

I don't think I'd be too excited to tangle with a gator, either. I don't mind snakes too much it's just the poisonous ones that give me pause. I've got a buddy that likes to get out and catch them and it has me a little suspicious that he's not right in the head.

It’s Gator breeding season and they are everywhere last 2 weeks.  All of the guys in our groups are VERY AWARE of this.
Today in our 9 holes we saw at least 3-4  critters, that’s the ones we saw.
Renters & Snowbirds scare me because they aren’t aware and they let their Gkids play near ponds….

Looking up snakes in Arizona, it's amazing the different breeds of rattlesnakes in the state. I don't think I'll be moving there.

... I have played at least 500 rounds in Phoenix and that is the first snake I have seen on a golf course. Of course I always play twilite so they aren't out in the hot sun and that King snake is usually nocturnal, hunting for rodents at night because of the heat. But it was only 68* yesterday with a 30mph wind. Actually that is the first snake I have seen here period. I saw more snakes when I lived in NC.

My first trip to AZ to play golf was in 1993... in July!!  It was on the other course at TPC Scottsdale; not sure what it's called now.  It was fairly new at the time and not much vegetation in the desert between fairways, and back then I mostly missed fairways!!  This sign was EVERYWHERE!!!
