Popular Post CarlH
Played a muni course that I've not previously played (Cortez Golf Club in Hot Springs Village). Did well on the front side with a 39 after starting off with 4 bogeys. On the back, lost my drive to the right somewhere down a ravine on #10 ... took a double there. Hit another ball OB when it hit the cart path and ended up with another double. The backside played much tougher with tight fairways and different elevations. Ended up shooting bogey golf 44 on the back to card an 83. Biggest problem for me other than the lost ball and OB was putting on greens that were slow. I couldn't seem to find my pace and missed a lot of breaking putts. We were also waiting on every shot on the back, which didn't help. This was part of our "Last Monday Group" where we play a different course in the Village on the last Monday of the month (Tues this month because of Memorial Day). The format is always 3 best net for team skins. Our team won 2 skins, which surprised me because we seemed to struggle getting 3 decent net scores each hole. cnosil, Kenny B, Rickp and 10 others 13 Quote Driver: Rogue ST Max (10.5* set at -1 and neutral) -- Mitsubishi Tensai Blue 55g R shaft Fairway: Rogue ST Max 3 wood (16.5*) and Heaven Wood (20*)-- Tensai Blue 55g R shaft Hybrids: Rogue ST Max 5H (23*)--Tensai Blue 55g R shaft Irons: Apex CF19 6-9, PW, AW -- KBS Tour Graphite TGI 70 shafts R +1/2 inch 3* upright Wedges: Edison 53* and 57* KBS PGI 80 Graphite +1/2 inch 2* upright Putter: L.A.B. LeftyMatt89
Finally a solid round after a few poor rounds out. I’ve been working on my swing and committing to changes instead of just my score. Today I hit 9 GIRS and was on fringe for 3 more. I had one dumb double and two three putts but still managed a 78 today. Best round in a minute. It was nice seeing my hard work on irons and wedges paying off today with solid ball striking. Hopefully a sign of swing changes paying off. ejgaudette, Kenny B, MattWillGolf and 6 others 9 Quote Driver: TSR3 8 Ventus Red TR 8X Fairway: TSi2 16.5 Ventus Blue 8X Hybrid: Sim 2 - 19 Hybrid Tensei Orange 90TX Irons: P790 4-5 P7MC Raw 6-PW MMT 125TX Wedges: SM8 50.10F, 54.10S - X100 & 58.04T S400 Putter: Lajosi DD201 Pro V1X Left Dash

Paired up with a nice young kid attending MSU and we both played the green tees (6318). It had rained pretty heavy the previous two days and the course was wet but not sloppy at all. Lots of heavy, dark cloud cover and rain in the distance, but winds were light and it stayed clear of us. 44/41 with only one DB and never having made a single putt outside 8 ft. Several great chances for birdie but the ER5v and I just could not get it done. It felt like one of those rounds that could have easily been a sub 80. I did get to test out the Tsi2 3w. I took my first swing with it (I mean literally) on #1, par 5 with 242 yards in. I took the G400 with me in the truck but upon arriving decided to live or die with the Titleist. I need to get some time on the range with the SC200 and see for sure, but it was pretty easy to get airborne and early indication is that it's longer by maybe 7-10 yards. It definitely has a different feel and sound. Time will tell but, thus far, my gamble looks like it will pay off. Lush, green, and damp... not great for roll out but sure nice looking. Popular Post ncwoz
Shot a disappointing 81 at a pretty simple & short local course. My approach play was really really good, just had some poor drives and a whole bunch of two putts. 3 fairways, 10 greens, 36 putts. No 3 putts. We were told if we teed off the back at 4:15, by the time we came back around we'd be able to follow leagues down the front to finish 18. Well then they decided to let 3 groups tee off in front of us, and they proceeded to play some of the slowest golf I've seen in a while. We probably finished the first 9 in roughly 2 hours, and we were over 3 for the second 9. Hate to admit it, but I let the frustration of slow play mess with my focus on the back and I got sloppy on a few holes. Popular Post JerryB
Owen didn't want to get up so I played the front nine at River Heights today. Weather was nice and still pretty breezy today. Started a little rough but turned out pretty great. Started double, triple, then had four bogeys and three pars. Had a really decent par save on a par three where I pulled it left into the bunker, then picked it clean but onto the fringe across the green. Drained the putt from the fringe. Also tried some 7 iron worm-burners whenever I had the chance to some surprisingly good results. Overall shot a +9 45 and walked it in just over an hour. Popular Post Wolverine784
The year long club championship kicked off at my club and I was paired up with the lowest indexed player who also spent some time playing collegiate golf. This is what I love about golf though and how handicaps can level the playing field. I was also thankful for those $100 matches with my friends every summer to help calm the nerves and remind myself that there is always the next hole. I missed a short 5 footer to start the day and go 1 up but kept my head in it and found myself even after the first nine. He shot -1 and I was +5, both of us holding true to our handicaps. This course is pretty exposed so as the wind picked up on the back, there were some 2 club differences and for once I put my ego in the bag and pulled out the extra club when needed. We continued to halve most holes until the only par 5 on the back where we couldn't give each other the hole. I salvaged a miracle bogey after almost dunking it in a pond left of the fairway on my drive and pull hooking my 3rd shot to go +2. I proceeded to get the chipping yips on two consecutive holes to let him back in. We rolled to 17 with a forced carry par 3 and the wind in our face. I pulled out the extra bat and put it 20 feet from the pin and made a testy 2 putt to win 2 and 1. We won't talk about 18 and my three putt I shot net 71, and am on to the second round, nerves intact. Still need to work on my approach shots but the game is finally started to resemble my pre kid days. i just need to work on scoring to start knocking off meaningful numbers off the handicap but I am enjoying this season more than most. KC Golf
Have been driving pretty poorly since the season started a few weeks ago up here. So went to the range and started working on things that worked for me late last year. Started hitting better 3 FW on the range and the next day it translated into very good distance gains. Also my Driver started finding more fairways. Hoping this trend continues into Match Play starting next week. Popular Post chisag
... Starting to feel like Groundhog Day as I shot 71 for my last 6 rounds. A little stiff starting out and had a 10 foot eagle putt just off the front of the green and with the Rye dying out and Bermuda coming in the greens are pretty bumpy and I rolled it 4 feet past and the birdie putt bumped offline. Added one bogie and played the front in 1 over. Then I birdied 10, 11 and 12 just missing another on 13. Then on 17 the pin was perched just over a false front and I hit it 4 feet past the pin but it spun back seemingly sitting just above the false front teasing me and theeeeeen trickled off the green. With the bumpy greens I had no choice but to hit it 6 feet past the pin or it would just come back to my feet and I missed the putt for another bogie. So a par on 18 and ... another 71. Again, no complaints but it would be nice to shoot a different number. ... But the real reason for this post is at 102* the course was pretty empty as we walked and 4 different singles played through us in carts. With an empty course it was Nature Day and a glorious one at that. I was feeding a Roadrunner some organic nuts/fruit Probar and 2 other Roadrunners attacked her and took the food from her beak. I tried another little piece and they did it again! Roadrunners are very territorial and I have never seen 3 together. I dropped another and she just stood there with it in her beak til one of the other ones took it from her again and I realized these were her kids! I stayed there dropping probably 10 little pieces and she fed them every time never having any for herself. ... Then several hoes later a HUGE Retail hawk found a ground squirrel (they look like a mini prairie dogs) and after killing it, flew up unto a tree to have a peaceful meal in the shade. .... Cut up an organic Fuji apple and feed the rabbits on the far back 15th tee box. Cut them into small squares and the rabbits know it by now since I have been doing this all winter and spring. They jump away to the bushes and before I can even get back to my tee box they are back on the tee and eating the apples. ... Finally on 18 two coyotes with tiny little coyote cubs ran across the fairway about 100yds in front of us. I have never seen baby coyotes in the wild but as I said the course was pretty much empty. They crossed over to #9, looked around while the cubs had a little wrestling match, then came back across 18 and back into the desert while we waited to hit out tee shots. ... Finally I have never given my 80yr old pard any instructions but he has been flying open with his body when he jumps at the ball. 5'9" and 135 he needs to throw his body at the ball and hits it amazingly far for his age. I teed his ball up a little higher and told him to feel like his shoulders don't turn through impact. Impossible not to do of course but it helped him stay more square at impact and he hit some big drives. 4:40 minutes as we sat in the shade letting singles play through, enjoyed nature and didn't hurry in the heat. MattWillGolf
This was one of my better rounds. I played the back 9 this morning. Driver was a tad bit inconsistent but found 4 out 7 fairways with it which is good for me. Putting was good except for the 15th hole, a par 3 over water. My tee shot was to about 24 feet but 3 putted. I had one blow up hole number 16, the hole after the 3 putt, that nothing seemed to go right on but I didn’t 3 putt and I topped every shot. Parred 17 and bogeyed 18. Which for one who is often in the low 50s for nine is good. Oh and my shot of the day was on 17 but that is for another post. Popular Post MDGolfHacker
I have to say yesterday was one of the best rounds for me in league in a very long time. The heat registered 99* on the way to the course and didn't dip below 92* during play. Historically, my game goes to when it gets hot outside. Got to the course very early, putted and chipped for a bit, then went inside and sat next to the wall AC unit they had in the bar until 10 minutes before League went off. I felt that my game was trending in the right direction last week even if the scoring didn't show that. We started on hole 14 (we played the back 9) where I promptly sliced a tee shot into the trees. Normally I'd play the doom and gloom card stating my round was over before it began but I thought to myself it's still early in the round and the game is coming together so I took my drop and almost made the green with that approach. Chipped to 1' and made my bogey. After that small hiccup my golf game became effortless. To say everything was on fire was an understatement. The woods, irons, wedges, approach shots and putter were all working in beautiful harmony! I almost hold out on a par 3 but ended up spinning it down the slope to the front of the green. Dropped a few approaches within 3' of the pin too. The next few holes were a blur but the putter was on fire, allowing me to make 2 birdies over 9 holes. Even if the approach shot was a little off, I was still able to save par for the most part. I did take a double bogey on hole 17 but bounced right back with a birdie on 18. I ended up shooting a one over par 37 net 33 with my handicap so I'm very excited to see this level of play return. Just in time for a best ball tourney I have at the Links of Gettysburg on Monday! I'm just hoping the Golf Gods don't taketh away too soon. I got about 20yds from the water when he violently flipped, flailing his legs and fell out of my hands. Crazy heavy I thought he might have damaged his shell and when I tried to reach him again he snapped and flailed at his "tormentor". The crazy thing is this course is completely packed all winter and spring and hard to get tee times but as summer approaches and all the snowbirds are back home it can be pretty empty. Yesterday was an extreme example as we started at 2pm and at one time the ranger told us only 3 groups were on the entire course so nature was having an awesome day with very few humans in carts disrupting their day. It was a severely windy day, but my shot of the day was not anything specific, but rather a phenomenal day with the driver. What I did was take swings at about 75-80%. Almost everything was dead center, and still had decent distance. Of course the few that I missed went into death traps, which created 2 of my 3 doubles. But all in all, despite the score, I played pretty well. The slight misses really turned into trouble, as the 3 doubles will attest to. But the new irons really helped. No complaints about the day MDGolfHacker, MattF, fozcycle and 8 others 11 Quote TSr2 on tensi blue stiff Speedzone 3-wood on Tensi blue S Epic Max 5 and 7 woods on HZRDUS Reg flex Paradym 9 wood on HZRDUS reg flex P770 / P790 combo set on Ventus R-6 shafts 6-AW T22 Denim Copper 54°, 58° on Kinetic X Trajectory ER3 or, E.A.S. #4 (“Fang” or “Adele”) ProV1x, or, Maxfli Tour X .Org 14 cart bag Adidas Tour 360 , or Sketcher shoes
Popular Post Alf. S
TLDR: Quiet week, had a bust up with an opponent in a seniors league match, using this a cathartic therapy This week's update gives an entertaining end. Pretty uneventful medal on Saturday, 83 net 76 hitting the ball well but couldn't get up and down. 1st round with a new Ping SIgma G Valour putter and replaced my shanky 5i with an Apex 5h. A bit of bedding in required but happy with my game overall. Tuesday bounce game again the low 80s without really concentrating so again a nice day out with one of my buddies. Today different matter, playing a seniors league match 4BB. Opponent is off 5 so gives me 2 strokes, his partner 10 and mine 13. To put into context having had a dry May and April all courses are playing firie and the conditions today were very calm, so course is playing short . It all starts at the 1st the 5hc guy pulls his approach thru 1 and starts complaining about bouncies but his partner get net birdie and they go one up. We then win the next 5 with me winning 3 of them my partner 2 but loses 2 balls (nature of a high h/c golfer), they win 7 and then my partner has net birdies on 8 and 9 for us to turn 5 up. I was playing well apart from a double at 9 when i got a hard bounce and went thru the green, that made me 3 over. We had been friendly and chatty all the way round but on the way to the 10th the 5hc guy says my partner is never off 19 and his handicap is "Cheating of the highest order". I got to the Tee and was about to hit and stopped, I challenged the guy and asked him to apologise saying calling him out as a cheat is also calling me out as a cheat. It all kicked off, him refusing, me calling him a disgrace to his club. By the 13th it was all over with us winning 6&5. His partner shook our hands and apologised. But I kicked off again, with 5hc guy; I reflected back and noted that he had only parred 2 holes of the 13 and that off 5 maybe he should look at his own game rather than casting accusations based on 9 holes holes of golf but he was having none off it. Anyone that knows me and has played with me would say I amicable Alf, but like the best of us can still curse at myself when I play a bad shot or make a stupid mistake on the course. I have been on the other end of the handicap debate but I suck it up, smile, congratulate the guy. This is the 1st time I have lost my temper with an opponent and hopefully be the last. CarlH
Today was our weekly MGA round. 2 man best ball net. We only got in 15 holes before we were rained out (thunder and lightning in area). It was a shotgun start, so the pro shop figured out which 9 holes everyone played and went from there. I was playing okay ... 8 over thru 15 holes (2 doubles!) but my partner (8 Hcap) was having a bad day. Of the 15 holes, we only used his ball on 2 holes. Anyway, we didn't win, but I did win a skin. cksurfdude, cnosil, ejgaudette and 6 others 9 Quote Driver: Rogue ST Max (10.5* set at -1 and neutral) -- Mitsubishi Tensai Blue 55g R shaft Fairway: Rogue ST Max 3 wood (16.5*) and Heaven Wood (20*)-- Tensai Blue 55g R shaft Hybrids: Rogue ST Max 5H (23*)--Tensai Blue 55g R shaft Irons: Apex CF19 6-9, PW, AW -- KBS Tour Graphite TGI 70 shafts R +1/2 inch 3* upright Wedges: Edison 53* and 57* KBS PGI 80 Graphite +1/2 inch 2* upright Putter: L.A.B. I was playing my home course back in Chicago on a very hot humid day and found one of these guys in the middle of the fairway inching along at a snails pace toward the lake. He had a good 100yds to go so I thought I would help him and put a towel over him as he retracted into his shell and started carrying him. I got about 20yds from the water when he violently flipped, flailing his legs and fell out of my hands. Crazy heavy I thought he might have damaged his shell and when I tried to reach him again he snapped and flailed at his "tormentor". I watched for a few minutes but the guy didn't move so I walked back to my ball, hit my shot and when I looked back the hopefully uninjured fellow was slowly crawling to the lake. ... For your personal safety I’d suggest refraining from testing any Acme golf equipment. sirchunksalot, chisag, cksurfdude and 4 others 2 5 Quote CB-P226 Hoofer Cart Bag 0311 Black Ops 8° w/Mitsubishi Diamana S+ 60 0311 XF 3 wood 16° w/Mitsubishi Tensei AV Raw Blue 0211 19° Hybrid w/Project X Even Flow Riptide G410 Crossover 4 w/Mitsubishi Tensei Blue Paradym X 6 - GW w/True Temper Elevate MPH Official Forum Test SM9 54°/12° D and 58°/12° D w/KBS Tour 110 ER11v 34” Evnroll ER11v Official Forum Test Shot Scope Pro LX+ Pro LX+ Official Forum Test MTB prime 3.5+
