Grips and shafts

I am constantly tinkering with my bag.  Trying new drivers and irons. Swapping shafts etc. So I end up with different shafts and gripsnin my bag.

I have for for now think I have the ideal bag for me.

I just picked up a set of mizuno jpx919 hot metal 5-9, pw,gw,and then bought a sw to complete set.

The 5-gw have the tt tour new concept x100 shafts.  I love these shafts.

The sw has the modus tour stiff, and my surout lob has the kbs wedge flex.

I defintely want to get all these clubs with same grip, lamkin sonar mid size,  just have to change the sw and lw to match the rest of irons. I probable want to reshaft sw to match rest of set.  Not sure necessary for lob wedge.

Now onto woods.

Should I get all four dr, 3w,5w,7w all on same shaft profile?

Definitely want same grips, it bothers me when I pick up a club and the grip is different.

I was playingvtge golf pride tour velvet align std size , but new set of irons came with the lamkin sonar mid size and I really like the way they feel.

I like my clubs to have the same "feel" and/or close enough that I don't notice it durning my swing. Especially picky regarding my driver, fairways and hybrids. Use the same model / flex shaft and same type matching grips/sized. Possibly more lenient with higher lofted wedges. I still want the same grip but I have rotated different shafts in the GW to LW.  Good luck with your set makeup.

Yes I understand. So know my big dilemma is choosing shaft and flex.

I was leaning towards hzrdus smoke black 70 xstiff that's on my mavrik max driver.

My 5w has the aldila rogue white 70s. I used this shaft on my previous driver and kinda think it worked out better then the hzrdus, but that might be just my swing changing for worse.

I ordered a new aldila driver shaft to match 5w.  If it works out then i guess i will pick up another aldila for the 3w.

I think testing rogue first then going to hzrdus if rogue does not work out is current plan.

I tried a few years ago to match my driver, 3W and 5 W with the same shaft but the difference in length and weight it just didn’t work out....if you go through a good fitting you will see that your shaft profile is probably quite a bit different from your driver to 5W

Yes that was definitely a consideration I thought about. But since the 5w already has the aldila rogue white 70S and I really hit that club very well, and I previously used same shaft on my last driver, I think as long as I get a fairway wood version of same shaft for 3w it might work out.

Clearly have to see if driver is good with the new shaft., if not back to the hzrdus.  BTW, when I was fitted at club champion, I had the rogue stiff on my driver.  I have since switched from mavrik std with fitted rogue stiff to mavrik max with hzdrus xstiff. Same 70g weight for both.  I just feel like xstiff hzrdus is a little less forgiving then the rogue. Peak distance is a little longer for xstif hzrdus, dispersion and and avg not as good. So clearly for me I would rather hit a 250 avg with better dispersion then a potentially longer bomb at expense of dispersion.  The longest drive with mavrik with rogue shaft was 275, whereas the longest drive with max and hzrdus was 293.

As someone who tinkers and ho’s clubs on a regular basis, I only worry about matching grips. Iomic Sticky Evolution 1.8. I like to have a consistent feel in my hands when I grip the club. As far as shafts go, Iron shafts match (modus 105x) from 3-10 in my Honma TW-X’s but otherwise I’m all over the place. Wedges are whatever shaft came with them and my driver is a smorgasbord of different profiles, weights, and flexes trying to find the magical “ONE”! Lol.  The only club that hasn’t left my bag in forever is a Srixon F85 5 wood with an UST Elements Chrome 7F4.  Nothing can beat it out and has allowed me to eliminate my 3 wood.

I wouldnt worry about matching profiles, flexes, or weights for anything but your irons. I would find what works for your woods and wedges individually to give you optimum performance for each. It is no different than MGS’s be your brand. The odds of one brand giving you optimum performance through the bag is slim and the same can be said for shafts as well.

Noting to add on the shaft selections, but have you played a lot with the Lamkin Sonars? I got them with my new clubs as part of the Cobra Connect Challenge last year and they really tore my hands up. I did hit a ton of balls and played a lot, for me, in a short period of time, but I've never had a grip give me blisters and calluses like the Sonars did.

I am not alone. They tear my hands up too. Anyone use anything else that has the traction of those but are not as harsh? Thinking maybe PURE grips

Not necessarily. What one needs in a driver may not be the same need in a fw. Also what’s needed in a 3w may not be needed in a 5 or 7w. Typically going heavier more than matching profiles. 5 and 7w could probably be the same shaft for most.

This is where fittings come in to help determine what works best. The other thing that need to be considered is gapping.

Matching wedges with irons it’s typically recommended to match up to the last wedge that one takes a full swing with.

Try the Golf Pride CP2 wraps. Same colors a lot easier on the hands.
