JerryB
Had a bittersweet round yesterday. Played Aldeen Golf Club in Rockford for the first time. It was gorgeous. It was both the nicest and the most challenging course I've ever played. Lots of hazards, and little hills line many of the fairways. If you aren't accurate off the tee (raises hand), your second shot will be from a funky lie. Greens have multiple tiers and generally aren't flat. Weather was decent at first but got pretty chilly later. After shooting +5 on hole one, I went +5 over the next eight holes. On the back nine I had eight doubles and a triple. Went 46/55 for a 101. My driver was generally decent but errant. We all kind of fell apart on the back nine when it both turned colder and one buddy left at the turn. He's apparently had the driver yips for a few years and this season I've watched as it bled into the rest of his game. He wasn't hitting anything well today and he was getting more and more frustrated so he left. He'd been thinking about giving up the game recently and I was thrilled when he invited us to join him at this course. He's been a great source of advice and gave me a set of clubs and a bunch of balls when my son and I took up the game earlier this year. I dont blame him stopping if the game is no longer fun, but I really hope he comes back next year, I really enjoy playing with him. Popular Post cnosil
Went to the range yesterday and hit the ball pretty terribly; then went to the short game area and hit pitches for a little while. wasn't looking forward to the round today based on how I hit the ball yesterday. Warmed up and was hitting the ball pretty well and it carried over to the round. Overall pretty solid ball striking with irons and short game. I changed the shaft and loft of my driver and struggled with it a little bit. Tee shots were either good or kind of popped up. Greens had been recently punched and the ball was bouncing a bit. 7 FW, 10 GIR, 32 Putts 41/38:79 JerryB, GolfSpy_SHARK, Rickp and 9 others 12 Quote Driver: G400 Max 9* w/ KBS Tour Driven Fairway: XCG7 Beta 15* w/Fujikura Fuel Hybrids: 915H 21* w/KBS Tour Graphite Hybrid Prototype 915H 24* w/KBS Tour Graphite Hybrid Prototype Irons: TR20V 6-11 w/Vizard TR20-85 Graphite Wedge: 54/12D, 60/8M w/Accra iWedge 90 Graphite Putter: Sacks Parente MC 3 Stripe Backup Putters: Milled Collection RSX 2, mFGP2, Futura 5W, TM-180 Member: MGS Hitsquad since 2017

Might have been my best day ever with a putter yesterday as I missed one putt inside 20 feet. Irons were about as good as I can hit them. But my driver was a Jekyll and Hyde all day. Knowing the fairways have just been over seeded so practically zero roll and I think subconsciously (OK, maybe a little consciously ) I was trying to get a little extra out of my driver and hit 2 really nice drives, several serviceable drives but waaaaaay too many poor drives. Nothing worse then needing a few extra yards and hitting it in the heel and losing about 20 yds or the 2 I hit high on the face with 1/2 a ball dimple showing for a drive traveling higher than it's distance from the tee. Hitting a hybrid or 5 wood when it is normally a mid iron is just brutal. ... So thanks mostly to my putter I had 3 birdies and 2 bogies. This game is just so difficult to do everything really well and it always seems like at least one element of the game is a struggle. Ya drive the ball great, hit your irons reasonably well and just can't make a putt. Your putter is on fire but your wedges and irons are on vacation. Popular Post DStar
Had a 'birthday' round on a new course yesterday with my F-in-L. Not a great course with lots of blind tee shots but the greens were in great condition as they'd had their winter treatment early. Rolling really nicely which is a nice change to my home course who've just done the treatment. Shot a nice 88 and play around the greens was good with a 1.7 putt average, no 3-putts so safe to say the new revisions to the putter are working. Driver working well too Highlight was driving a 310y blind, uphill par 4. Doing videos for the Sub70 849 Pro driver review I noticed I was less than optimal with that part of my swing. Made an adjustment that has translated to the irons pretty well but is very inconsistent with the driver swing. I am out of sequence and really stuck with an over the top move to varying degrees. It's crazy how it's only the driver swing. Fairway woods, hybrids and irons are all fine....not that I'm complaining about that! Edit to add.....I think its time to switch up putters for a round or two. I have lost my feel with the Heppler Fetch and though I know its my fault not the putters, it may help to look at something different. Popular Post Kenny B
We finally got some rain this weekend!! Rained hard Saturday night and was still raining 2 hours before our tee time. I looked at my wife and said: "Do you really want to play in this?" It's a desert; it doesn't rain for long!! She said: "It's not raining THAT hard"... so we went!?! Got to the course, put the cover on the cart, headed to the range, although no one was there, and we could have just headed to the tee. Rain stopped. Sun came out a little, and I took off 2 of my 4 layers of clothes at the turn. I have been hitting my Mizuno MP20 HMB irons pretty well at home, so thought I would take them out for a spin on the course. It's really tough when you don't really know how far each iron goes, but based on the lofts I used two more clubs than my usual Bridgestones. Not a bad guess. I birdied hole #1; first time all year!! Managed a 39 (+2) on the front nine and 41 (+6) on the back nine, which I started bogey, double on #10-11. I was happy with an 80 though. Every shot I hit with the HMBs was solid, except for one on #18. I was hitting a 6i to a layup position and I just didn't commit to the swing; slight block to the right, but I was still in the fairway. I loved the ball flight!! I think I will stick with them for awhile. My issue all day was my long game. Driver was just OK, shorter than usual; and my woods were very inconsistent and also shorter than usual. I think my sore right shoulder is affecting those shot more than the short clubs. May need to take a break for awhile. kardboard.kid, JerryB, MattF and 9 others 12 Quote “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

You are probably changing your height thru the ball, getting quick in transition and yank the handle which is going to lead to the chunked shots, standing up is going lead to blading it. More than likely missing rotation in your motion. These are common mistakes many make. Ball should be played slightly forward unless trying to hit a low shot then play it back. Phil says playing a ball in the middle means one is indecisive on the shot they want to hit. A good video. Also worth the cost to buy his use the bounce 2.0 series on rebellion golf Agreed. I had a reasonable short game before I came across Monte and Rebellion Golf. For some reason I always played the ball a little forward of center for most shots. The bump and run was not a shot that I commonly played, so I rarely had the ball behind center. Monte's Use the Bounce 2.0 video showed me how and why to play this shot. I became a better chipper when I rotated more and as Monte emphasizes, get your humerus (upper arm) over your lead foot after contact. Made a world of difference! In his video he tosses golf balls underhanded to spots on the green. That motion is the same as basic chip motion shown here. If you don't get your humerus forward, it's easy to chunk and blade the shot. Popular Post Kenny B
We had a tee time late in the morning, but noticed some more rain moving in shortly afterwards. I checked and there were some cancelations and we got out at 9:20. A little breezy and we didn't get wet until hole #16. Second round in a row for the Mizunos and I'm starting to love them. They send the ball right where I want... most of the time! Still working on getting the correct distance, and the wind didn't help! My driver was working much better today than on Sunday. Shot 42 (+5) on the front nine with a stoopid double on the par 3 #8 hole. My 4i sent the ball off the back of the green; combination of poor chip and poor green reading and... "put me down for a 5." I had a couple of bogeys starting the back nine, but my shot of the day was driving the green on the par 4 #14 hole. A little tailwind helped, clearing the bunker and rolling to 7 feet... drained it! Parred the rest of the holes, including a 18-footer that barely fell in on #18 in the rain. Shot 35 (Even) for a round of 77. Popular Post sirchunksalot
My work isn't running production this week in my shift, so I took off Thursday and Friday. Well, I found out yesterday that we're going to get rain until Sunday and I decided to leave early today so I could get a round in. I'm not going to say I shot well, because I didn't. At least it was a beautiful day on the course. It was 54 degrees at 11:30 when I teed off and warmed up nicely as the day went on. The worst part of that was I think everybody and their brother decided it was also a good day to play, so it was slow. Shot 54/59 for a 113 with 34 putts. My driver was meh along with most of my irons and wedges over 50 yards. I started out the day with a horrible case of the shanks that got in my head. The star of the day was my fairway woods. I hit several shots that were some of the best I've seen in a long time. I did have a couple of stinkers sprinkled in, but for the most part they were solid. My ball striking wasn't the best and I had a few mistakes that cost me a LOT of strokes. I had a lost ball and a 7 on a par 3, two wayward drives on a par 4 for a 10, and just fell apart on another par 4 for a 9. It wasn't all bad, I'm starting to see some flashes of what my swing change is going to do for me. I've just got to work on it more and really get the feel for all the changes. I'm also going to say the Odyssey White Hot OG 2 Ball Putter in testing is a real treat. I'm averaging 1.7 putts a hole over the 27 holes I've played with it so far. I went into better detail over in the testing thread. Rickp, Kenny B, GolfSpy_SHARK and 14 others 16

Popular Post CarlH
Was able to take a break from packing for the move and get on the course today. Started off well, but had issues on the par 5s .... opening hole is par 5 and lipped out my birdie putt. Next 2 par 5s, my drive was about 6 inches OB and I ended up doubling both of those. The final par 5, I left my eagle putt dead in the heart but short. Wound up with another double on the finishing hole to come in with an 82. Guess I shouldn't complain too much as it was only my 2nd round in the last 6 weeks. Hoping to play again on Sunday. With the pending move, there's a lot of things going on that's keeping me off the course. Kenny B
The sun came out this morning after yesterday's rain, but along with came the wind... 15-20 mph. My wife played with her Ladies Club, so I decided to walk 9 holes. Joined up with 3 other old guys; nice guys, don't hit the ball very well but they also don't take much time playing. We moved at an enjoyable pace. I drove the ball pretty well for as windy as it was, and I made probably 40-50 feet of putts; two long par saves and a birdie. The guys were impressed, especially when I did my best Phil impression and touch the bill of my hat... #toursauce! Had three bogeys to go with the birdie, so +2 round of 39. I bought them on sale and always rotated 2 pair so I had plenty of "mowing shoes". Switching to Ecco Biom's I expected them to last longer and have 4 pair I rotate, although not evenly and bought 2 new pair when they were 50% off. Problem is the very first pair I bought is still working well after 3 years. So my 2 new pair sit on the shelf waiting for that day when one or more pair finally lose their support or get a tear or get too wet or SOMETHING! that lets me replace them. cksurfdude, NRJyzr, MattF and 2 others 5 Quote Driver: Qi10 10.5* ... Popular Post chisag
... Ok I have a confession to make. I cheated today. Yea, I am sheepishly admitting it on MGS. I CHEATED. I feel so ... so ... soooo good about it! Since I am 68yrs old I know I am allowed to play from the senior tees, but I never have and it sure felt like cheating. 3 guys in their early 60's and high index players talked me into joining them on the gold tees. As you can see from some of the yardages, the gold tees are much friendlier on the 1st, 2nd and 4th hardest holes. Four 3's in a row to end the front 9 and then we hit 2 groups waiting on #10 and my momentum kinda disappeared. ... What I found interesting is I have eagled 2, 4 and 10 from the Silver tees and birdie them quite often, but moving up I didn't birdie any of them from the gold tees. Twice I evidently thought I was a high index player swinging too hard because it was so tempting to easily get on in two and I hit poor tee shots. The other 2 I lipped out my birdie putts. The opposite of my norm on the par 3's playing them 1 under. Seven 3's and a 2 was pretty cool. I have to admit it was a ton of fun playing the golds and I felt like a Tour player having such short yardages into greens. But you still have to hit accurate shots and make your putts. LOL after the front 9 I was thinking this could go really low but after the 25 minute wait to tee off it was back to one shot at a time. I might do this again if I get paired up with 3 guys playing the gold. Kenny B, MaxEntropy, Rickp and 8 others 11 Quote Driver: Qi10 10.5* ... AutoFlex Dream 7 SF405 Fairway: Qi10 5 wood ... DStar
Midweek stableford yesterday and had one of those 'if only' rounds. Ended up with a 91 for 34 points but had 3 putts on the 1st 3 holes all from around 8 ft. Then played steady but had at least 8 putts that ended up a roll or two short, bang on line too. A bit more pace on the greens and I could've had a nice low 80's. They've had their winter treatment so not in great condition. Presentation day shotgun on Saturday so will see how the new X-stiff driver shaft works - hoping for good things.
