Grips to reduce shock

Recommended Posts

After a very shocking Mizuno Shaft Optimizer outcome, I'm still considering sticking with steel shafts in spite of my elbow discomfort.

Does anyone know of a grip manufacturer or grip that are good at reducing shock to your hands/arms? Winn Dri-Tac/2.0/Lite were mentioned to me, but I thought I'd ask if anyone else knows of any others.

That and midsize options if you hands are big enough. Hard to go wrong with the SuperStroke grips though.

Through the testing of the Star Grips I’ve noticed significant shock reduction compared to my previous Lamkin grips. I’ll still feel it on bad shots but that’s to be expected

Have a similar situation with my elbows and wrists.  Put prosoft foam in my mizunos this winter and they seem to be helping but am now going to have to try a star grip.

Winn or Lamkin make one called "Arthritic Wrap". Also take a look at GP CP2 Wrap blue cap or their Tour Wrap is even softer.

Winn makes some really padded grips that are comfortable. And there's this guide.

Thanks for the link. I've heard that Winn's are pretty good on shock absorption. I'll look at the SS grips too, since they're price is reasonable as well. I'm also considering the Chamois original (not the wrap) as it's been mentioned as well.

I prefer CP2 myself as they have a core at the end to reduce vibration.

However since you are still going with steel shafts I also recommend using the Tiger dowel dampening trick to add additional shock absorption.

I did it on all my irons with steel and it does help reduce vibration.

I had a hand injury and put on JumboMax grips on Medium (granted the medium were still really big) but took all the sting out for me and since they are large and tapered the way they are you do not have to squeeze them any at all. There’s pretty much no chance of them coming out of your hand. Now with that being said they are BIG! But I played with them with zero pain. I’ve still got them on my driver and woods and long irons. Takes some getting used to, but they work. My father plays and has issues with arthritis in his hands and also switched to them on his clubs due to pain and “hands letting lose”. He was the same way, took him a while to get used to playing due to the size but he likes them.
