Promotional cross-pollination...

image.jpgSo I know that Callaway wedge-grinder extraordinaire Anthony Taranto has a very broad fan base, but this was interesting to me.Personally, I doubt that Tommy paid for these, but maybe I'm wrong. My question is, do you think cross-pollination of celebrities from other walks of life to promote golf equipment works? Any examples of excellent cross-over exponents... Or some really random ones you've seen...

I missed this wedge one, but I thought the grips he got from PURE grips were very cool.

As for celebrities promoting golf equipment?  I don't really see it working in the long term.  I have no idea if that person is a good golfer who chose a product that performs very well, or just a hack with a bunch of a money that want's something unique.

Does it matter though?  If somebody is a huge KISS fan and say not a Phil fan, then they just may go buy that exact wedge.  Do I necessarily think it helps, no, but it certainly doesn't hurt.

It's a lot better and more importantly easier than finding a pro golfer to represent the brand. Golfers have virtually noe appeal. Not even to golfers. Celebrities - we love them :) And hate them! We care. They're in all types of media, not only golf mags and websites.

If Callaway gets a member of KISS to pose with a wedge it beats using Stenson, Phil, Reed, Ryo +++.

I think it can work but it depends on the celebrity. A good example is the Pebble Beach event. Many celebrities are in it and if you notice so are their bags. Also, with "any" celebrity endorsement you have to be careful who they are, scandal (potential or confirmed) people need not apply.
