Sometimes if I’m  playing with my wife or another couple I’ll play from Forward Tees just to keep things moving and won’t forget.
I do the same thing with a couple of the older guys just to keep things simple.

Oh, that's even worse and really funny.  Start making him buy you a beer or glass of wine for each offense 😊.

I have to admit that when we played the PNW Spy Meet-up the past handful of years, I did this to Martha ( @Kenny B's wife) a handful of times over the handful of rounds we played.  To her credit, she never gave me the stink-eye one time.

I gotta say, Rory's swing is pretty sexy, very much golf porn...

Got to watch Rory hit on the 1st tee today at Oak Hill.

The 1st and 14th share the same tee box going at right angles to each other so one group has to wait for the other group to finish and leave before they can go.  Our group caught up to the group ahead of us to tee on 14 that was waiting for a group to tee off on 1.  I tried to follow my Scorer as the Standard Bearer stays by the Scorer for the entire round but I got blocked from following him by a golfer bending down to get something from his golf bag held by his caddy.  That golfer was Brooks Koepka I discovered after I relocated behind the tee box signage and watched him tee off.  Then we watched the group in front of us tee off as the group behind us joined us to then watch the next group heading for the 1st tee.  That group was Coilin Morikawa, Justin Thomas, and Rory McIlroy.

Justin went first and quickly signaled right then yelled "Four Right" so we know where his ball went.  Collin hit next down the fairway, then it was Rory.  That exact looking drive and he crushed it what looked like it was going left but left was how the fairway was bending and by the time it came down it was all fairway.  So that was today at Oak Hill.

In MA you have to pump your own gas and this was a new one on me. I've never seen a glove dispenser on the hose before.

clearly I didn't read because I'm not wearing them. anyone seen this before?

Here in WA the days of someone pumping your gas for you have gone the way of the dodo.  On my trip to Oregon this last week pumping gas yourself is not allowed.  The attendant has to be quick out to my car or I do it and take the chewing out, but I don't wait for someone to pump my gas.

At some gas stations here they do have glove dispensers near the pumps, I think I didn't start seeing them until Covid.

Full service gas stations left southwestern Ohio 30 or more years ago, so I remember them but I have always pumped my own. That being said, I can’t say I’ve ever seen the glove dispenser til now.

The sound of the strikes is amazing as is watching the golfer and his swing.  I came away with the impression I try too hard when I swing and Kurt looks like he can't swing fast with a turf scalping chunk slower than I swing but his ball goes twice as far and exactly where he wants it to land.  Keep you eyes on Satith Theegala, amazing golfer with some incredible par saves in the last few holes.  Driver put him in a few bad spots but he was able to put together amazing recovery shots.

Unfortunately I have another family commitment that is pointing the vehicle west from home to Cleveland and a little more than double the distance to Rochester and Oak Hill.  So Saturday and Sunday will be the opposite of having a great time with golf.

I’m sure you are enjoying the experience.  How cool is it to be close to these guys while playing and hear their conversations.  Enjoy the moment.

Actually the Standard Bearer and Scorer stay a distance from the players unless they choose to include us which usually requires some connection by knowing someone in common, which was true for my friend who's Scorer was known by one of the players going way back to his childhood days when they both knew the player's coach at their golf course.  For me always following behind and staying as out of view when they were getting ready for shots, conversations were too far away and sound going away from me so it was actually a quieter day.

So besides courteous comments to those I tried not to block their view and for one spectator who made me laugh saying "Go sign carrying guy!" and hellos from a couple of my PGA HOPE friends who were there who called out to me were the only conversations I had except with the scorer all round.

What was memorable was the personal introduction with handshake each player made when they arrived wanting to know our names and then their thank you handshake and possibly a signed golf ball leaving the 18th green.  No time for anything but a thank you as they were off to Official Scoring to sign their cards and that for them was the most important thing at the time.  Our most important thing was to make it back to turn-in the sign, credential, apron with number, and get my personal phone that had to be surrendered before getting the Standard Bearer credential card to ensure that PGA standards for all those inside the ropes are maintained.  (That is why there are no photos of my time volunteering as Standard Bearer)

I’ve been a walking scorer a couple times and really enjoyed it.  The last time was a couple years ago for a LPGA tournament and scored all 3 days.  We were told to stay at least 10 yards behind and along the edge of the fairway do we’d mostly be out of view of the tv cameras.  We used a hand held phone device for live scoring and had a radio so we could communicate with the control center. We had to log every shot fir each of the 3 players and where it was taken from.  The live scoring device company did a s/w update the night before the final round and the radio chatter was never ending.  Having worked with large critical s/w systems for DoD, I talked to the company afterwards and tried to give him suggestions on how to better test such upgrades.  He was kind of pissed at me and facititiously asked/said it’s not like we can walk the course at night to test it, that would be ridiculous.  I told him it would not, but described how he could set up a test bed and a simulated range, then send one person and a device on a cart to test.  During the golf channel broadcast there were constant scoring errors and frozen devices.

The best group I had was the final round with Brittany Lincicome, one of the Kangs and a rookie.  On the first tee, she approached me, introduced herself, reached for my name tag as I told her my name.  Then she repeated it.  Several times during the round, one of the other players would need a ruling and She would turn to me, call my name and ask if I would call for a rules official.  She was really nice, kind of took charge and helped the other 2.  Her dad walked along near me and I talked to him some.  At the end she gave me her last ball and thanked me.  Such a class act.

Bill, to be honest Martha plays several times a week with ladies from her league, and when we play together, she has... on more than one occasion... driven by my tee!!  😱  Yes, she drives the cart!  I used to drive but I got tired of her complaining about what I do... or don't do when I drive.  So now I just ride and keep my mouth shut.  🤐  All good now.

One lady at my golf course insists on always driving, no matter who the other person is in the cart or even if it is that person's private cart.

Not strange. I know 2 couples where the wife always drives the car - don't think I've ever seen the husband behind the wheel and they're a lot younger than I am.

The course that I played this morning had marshmallows sporadically throughout a good chunk of the course. It started on #5 and continued through to #13 where the marshmallows seemed to be replaced by geese. Geese everywhere, eating the marshmallows I assume. Still marshmallows all the way through to #18 but they were getting much more sparse by that time.
