I hope for some long drives. Make the pros think about run off and risk reward. I want to see some 500 yard shots that end up in hazards. It will be a nice break from fairway, green, two putt golf.

Just once I'd like to have an entire round of fairway, green and 2 putts.

Seriously, what happened? I caught a glimpse of him hitting what I assumed was his second into the green as I was heading to a meeting. Apparently not?

His approach shot missed the green by 2-3 feet and then bounced OB... It wasn't bizarre. Did someone say firm conditions?!

Well. Most of the big bombers didn't fair too well. BK sitting nicely at +1. I wonder what tomorrow shall bring.

More beautiful golf. As Shankster knows I'm a defender of the US Open. Tough once a year is fine.

 

But honestly this is just fine. Carnoustie is a tough course but it doesn't seem contrived. 5 under is a nice score for a tournament. Just enough birdies and trouble for excitement to ensue and to desperate the guys playing well from those who aren't.

 

We've also seen a variety of conditions and even better a variety strategies employed.

So back to back interviews - summary:

 

Rory - conditions were tougher today than yesterday because I couldn't carry the trouble with driver.

 

Zach - conditions were much easier today because they were more predictable.

 

Different games, different personalities, different view points.
