The Good Morning Thread

Good morning!

Had a nice weekend that started off with a round on Friday afternoon which is always a good start. Next day was some chores, before we brought our kids for a couple night with the grandparents. We got home for some quick dinner before we did a small night hike to see a comet, which was very cool, you could even seen the tail of it with the naked eye.

The next day we thought about getting a bigger hike in but winter has arrived here in the mountains so we decided to play it safe and hit some lower peaks, but it was still a good hike and some great views of a local lake. Then grabbed some lunch and just hung out.

This morning went o pick the kids up and get cars inspected mine passed which is always great news. Now just working at my in-laws while waiting for the second car to finish up.

Good morning Spies,

Uppa with a cuppa. Its cold and rainy in Central NY. Made protein blueberry pancakes this morning. Because of the rain I will take young Cooper to doggie daycare for a half-day to burn off some of his youthful energy. Takes a bit of getting used to after having a senior dog for many years.  Golf is on hold for a bit.

@rkj427 I've noticed some slow response times on the forum lately. It is especially noticeable on my older model iPad. Lots of ads loading I expect. When I use my VPN on the iPad the ads go away and the performance improves. I also experienced some quirkiness as well. I tried to quote your post on this and whenever I clicked on the box to type the text box disappeared. I use a UBlock Origin on PC. That may have something to do with it also.

OK, I'll amend the recommendation. Once you pay the $50 to play the Cradle, you can play all day if you have time and it's not too busy. First time I played it I shot 34 the first time around (par 27) and 29 on the immediate replay. So save two hours for The Cradle.

Good morning and happy holiday (for some) morning. 

It is cooling off here near Chicago and the days are getting shorter. I was fortunate enough to get 9 holes in yesterday at my local course. I continued my streak of playing reasonably well with very bad putting. One of my lag putts was so bad I wondered if I shanked my putter. 

I spent some time last week organizing the basement. I assembled some golf bag stands to help try to keep things neat and they help, but I still have a lot of organizing to do. I'm not sure which is worse, my putting or my desire to organize. 

I'm grateful for any time on the course and maybe will get lucky to have another round or two this season. I'm also thinking there is a possibility for some family group indoor lessons this winter with a heavier focus on putting. I'm really glad my family and friends are taking to golf.

Good morning spies! Looking at the last 100+ degree day hopefully for the season. That will push us up over 140 100*+ days since May. Yeah, hot. By Friday we may see some rain(the first in a couple of months) and 78 degrees for a high. 

Golf courses are still closed so a 40 mile ebike ride is on tap for today. The halfway point and where I turn around is at the Ken McDonald course.  (https://www.playkenmcdonald.com/)

Good Monday morning Spies!

A little late to the party today as I was up and out to the course at 4am to get things set up for a big tournament. Finally got the group off and running and then had quite a bit of work in the cart barn that needed someone to help, so.... 

When everything settled down took the opportunity to get a range session in to work on the driver which is coming along nicely. Still not where I want it but getting there.

@rkj427 Hope everything is all positive for your wife's follow-ups.

At the course.  Already irritated.  To get a cart I had to leave my ID and a credit card, it is pretty sad that people have ruined the game so much they feel the need to do that.  Secondly, there is a 6 man group two in front of us… might just pack it up and go home.

It's officially Pinehurst Week for me! Headed down there Thursday after work for a golf trip with three of my best friends. We have 5 rounds on the docket: Tot Hill Farm, Pinehurst No. 9, The Cradle, Southern Pines, and Tobacco Road. We'll also be checking out the putting courses at Pinehurst and Southern Pines following our afternoon rounds on Friday/Saturday, respectively. Should be an awesome weekend filled with some incredible golf.

Might try to sneak in one last range session this evening before my Bills play. My wife gets back late tonight from her Grand Canyon trip, so I want to take advantage of the free time. Other than that, just going to be wishing time would fly by until Thursday! Hopefully work should be fairly easy this week after a chaotic quarter-end close last week.

I hope that everyone has a great start to their week!

Happy Indigenous Peoples’ Day, and for the Nova Scotia branch of the family, happy Thanksgiving!

Weather stayed breezy, damp and cold so I opted for bowling.  Haven’t touched a bowling ball in almost 6 months and it showed.  The first game was the bowling equivalent of the first nine holes of the year when you get 2 birdies but everything else is a double- or triple-bogey.

 

My “back nine” was somewhat of an improvement with only one double- and one single-bogey.

 

Should be able to get back out to the course tomorrow.  Hope the rest of y’all’s Monday goes well!

I have played 11 days in a row, all walking and this old body is a little stiff. Yesterday was a beautiful fall day and there was no way I wasn’t playing. The weather today is very cool and rainy which will give me a day off and with tomorrow being Canadian Thanksgiving, I will be spending it with family making it two days of rest.

Next week will be very busy with three special golf outings playing clubs from three different eras. On Tuesday, it will be 1920’s hickory at an historic golf course with 36 participants. On Thursday it will be our fall Guttyfest playing clubs from pre 1900 with replica gutta percha balls. Finally, on Saturday it will be our final club event with modern clubs which in my case is classic irons with a couple modern metals.

I will surpass 180 rounds for 2024 this week which means that I have fully recovered from my serious health issues of last fall.

Sunday I played all persimmon and the 1955 Hogan Irons. My big surprise was the Toney Penna Jupiter Slugger. I had always wanted one and I ended up doing a trade deal with a member on here 3 years ago. It has a HM -30 graphite in it and I am just feeling well enough to hit it now. Man is it a bomber!! I hit it darn near as far as I do my modern (sort of) Callaway. The other surprise was a more modern Lynx Black cat putter. It is an 8802 style but has an insert and a round leather Lamkin grip. Man, I putted well with it. I know both are not exactly vintage, but I had fun. LOL if I was playing the vintage event in Pinehurst this week, I could not use those. But I do have a 1960 Keyhole I hit well plus an assortment of Ironmasters. But yes I am loving vintage golf

Yep I agree. I am still suffering from one in my accident in 2020. Right now I have the dissociative eye thing going that comes and goes day to day. Some days I can remember things from years ago some days I cannot remember by noon what I had for breakfast. On the golf end I have learned to adjust for they eye thing though.

I have a good friend of mine in Gaffney SC we raced cars together for years and owned cars together too. Now he is like 3 years older than I am. Someone in our racing groups will post a picture on FB that we are in and he forgets and asks me. Seeing a picture instantly flips a switch for me and I know and tell him. Funny how things work sometimes

Have fun--- I know one of the Vintage Groups playing persimmon and blades have an event this week at one of the courses. I could have played in it but I am not at the point yet that I can ride that far in a car.

Boy was I glad it wasn’t just me this morning lol I was on my lunch break and trying to do my normal routine of checking MGS while eating when I messaged you thinking my phone picked a bad time to crap out on me

I've been having issues all evening and have a lot to catch up on and it's nice to know they're doing updates and the problem wasn't on my end. I was getting kicked off and it wasn't letting me react to anything. 

I also wanted to let y'all know we got the results of my wife's biopsy today and it was keratosis, which is a burden off my mind. We want to say thank you for the thoughts, prayers, and kind works you all have given us. I appreciate y'all. 

@Byrnzeehave fun on your trip, it sounds like a good one! Tobacco Road is a bucket list course to me and if it wasn't so far away, I would go out and try to play it next month for my 50th. My wife told me I needed to play somewhere special for the occasion and that's the first place that popped in my head.
