What Are You Looking Forward To?

So I've always been a believer in having something positive to look forward to, ya know, to help you get through the rough days. I thought it would be cool to have a place for our members to come and share the amazing opportunities, activities, events, or experiences that they have coming up in life. And it doesn't have to be golf specific, anything you are excited about can be shared here.

I know a lot of people are looking forward to that countdown hitting zero on Tuesday morning for the Cobra selection, but for me I'm really looking forward to a week long vacation I'm taking this summer with my best friend, my 9 year old nephew. We're basically joined at the hip and love to do anything and everything together.  Every time we visit my college town of Statesboro, GA it seems like everything is just a rush. We get in on a Friday night, attend whatever sporting event we're there for on Saturday, and come home Sunday. There's so much we haven't been able to do so we're taking a full week, enjoying all we can, and even visiting Savannah and the beach. Excited is an understatement!

Have two things I am looking forward to over the next couple of months:

1.  My daughter will be graduating from college next month with her BSN degree and has a job lined up starting in July.   

2.  The MGS trip in June.  Looking forward to seeing the Spies I meet in Maryland last year, seeing Rob again, and meeting some new people that are members of the forum.

I’m the banquet speaker for the deaconess graduation at one of luncheon at one of our seminaries in May. It’s also my 30th class reunion that same week. Looking forward to both. 
 

Since Sem students are often older a number of my classmates have moved on and I will miss seeing them. There’s also a golf scramble that week and I’m playing in that, too.

Two planned vacations. One to the ocean (which my daughter asks about every week). The other a camping trip to Mt Rainier.

My sister’s baby is due this summer.

At least one NW golf guys tournament at the end of May.

Other summer activities with my daughter. Trying to keep her learning and growing during the preschool gap of summer time.

I have a ton of things I am looking forward to, but a couple highlights are (in order of them happening, not importance!)

1- Ice going out and me having a real break from work for the first time in 11 months. It is only 3 weeks off, but still!
2- Obviously a bigger thing, but our baby girl Audrey being born in June. Cannot wait to have her join us and for life to get a little more crazy

Any golf rounds with family and friends. Just very happy to get out. Also World Long Drive being back and getting a tv contract again!!

Getting out this Sunday with a buddy of mine and my two sons (6 and 4). Playing a 12 hole Par 38 course. First time I'll get to take them out in a while other than chipping around the practice green around the corner.

1) looking forward to the upcoming vacations my family has planned to Disney and Maine among a few a day trips here there

2) my sons school finishing up so we can get some afternoon rounds in together 

3) people coming back to the sites I manage, not only is it job security but getting back to a somewhat normal work environment that I have not had in 3 years

That sounds like a really awesome trip. I was just in the Savannah area a couple weeks ago. There are some beautiful courses down there.

I am looking forward to spending the summer with my family before I have to leave for another deployment with the military. I work for a high school and have the summers off so we are going to make it a memorable one.

I really don't have much to get excited about but I'm definitely looking forward to the weather finally getting nicer and staying that way.  Been a rough few months in the household and we're all getting a little cabin fever!

Amen to that! The weather is in that sweet spot for me where it’s a little chilly in the morning, maybe throw a quarter zip on, then warmer in the afternoon.. which is perfect

In June, my wife and I are taking a once in a lifetime (so far) trip to Europe for our 10th anniversary!  We are flying to Barcelona and staying 3 days. Then we are getting on a cruise ship for a 9 day cruise:

BARCELONA, SPAIN 
PROVENCE (MARSEILLE), FRANCE 
CANNES, FRANCE 
FLORENCE/PISA (LIVORNO), ITALY (2 days)  
GENOA, ITALY 
SICILY (MESSINA), ITALY 
NAPLES, ITALY 
ROME (CIVITAVECCHIA), ITALY

We'll spend 3 more days in Rome before flying home.We've been to Turks and Caicos, Mexico and other places in the Caribbean.  Neither of us has been to Europe, we are so excited!

Lots of cool things going on in everyone's lives. I too am glad the weather is getting to be good golf weather!

As a teacher, I have the luxury of looking forward to the summer months and a break from my profession. This year has been very long, so I am really looking forward to a fresh start and some relaxing personal time. 
I am also getting married July 1, so there are a lot of festivities coming up for that! Bachelor party is coming up in 5 weeks which is a golf trip in the Ozarks. A lot of life changes, but good fun and a lot to look forward to.

Just to update 100 yard par 3 and both the 6 year old hits the green in 2 and 2 putts, reacts like he just won the masters it was awesome. Not to be out done the very next hole his brother almost chips in and we're still talking about it at breakfast the next day. Very successful round.

Don't know if anyone knows him, but Cole Swindell (country singer) is a fellow alum and huge supporter of Georgia Southern Athletics like me. We got to hang with him a bit back in November and I just found out we're heading to a concert in November! Pretty pumped up for that opportunity!

Yep know him and like his music! Also a fan of Luke Combs and he's got a few East Coast stops this Summer; I'm not going but getting tix for stepdaughter and her possibly (probably} soon to be fiance* as a gift.

 

* Side note: even tho the guy, very nice really, may be the Rangers Jinx as apparently games he's attended in person they've been losing...

So a few things I'm looking forward to include...

.. more travel time with my wife - I'm retired but she's still working, plus our poochie is getting old so we have to work around others' schedules whom we have as dog sitters;

(.. someone mentioned earlier a cruise around Europe that included a stop in Sicily - that's one of the destinations on our want to go list!)

.. definitely the June MGS trip to Pinehurst area - was able to get to MD last Summer and it was really, really fun! 

.. reconnecting with old friends - a few guy friends who are a few years younger are still working .. a lot! .. and trying to arrange a boys night get together is difficult...

.. and, of course, always present is the desire to be playing "better" golf (wtf that term means )

I've got a few vacations planned finally, the first time taking a proper vacation with the missus since the wedding last year. We're off to the Von Trapp Lodge in Stowe, VT for a few days in May after hitting up the PGA Championship practice rounds, then heading to NYC in August to catch the NY Liberty against the LV Aces at Barclay's. Then the big family trip in Thanksgiving to Dollywood which she is very very excited about. As long as she's happy, I can keep going, even if it means missing out on some me time, it's the us time that matters most to me.

I do regret not being able to make the Pinehurst adventure, but we're planning for so much here, maybe 2024 I'll meet up with everyone again.

Now that our youth baseball season is over, I have time to fully dedicate myself to golf for the next couple of months until I start coaching football again. I've got a big goal of winning the Georgia Southern Donors' Tournament in August. The inaugural year was 2021 and it was a best ball format. I had my nephew with me and he played although they didn't make him count as one of our four people but his score could count should be manage to beat the rest of us on a hole. It was random pairings and I was put with a group of great guys but not so great at golf. Long story short, we used my score on 16 of the 18 holes and I just happened to shoot my career round that day. I credit a big part of that to my nephew who was 7 at the time and made his first ever birdie just a few holes in and I guess I got fired up, haha. We ended up winning and when I returned last year to defend the title, I fell at my hotel and tore the ligaments in my left ankle. For some reason I decided to play still and of course it went horribly (although I did manage two birdies somehow), but now I'm on a mission to come back better than ever this year and win it again. Unfortunately it has moved to a scramble so it'll be harder to win and I can't carry a team on my own but I'm darn sure gonna show up and try to reclaim the title!

Anyway, that was a long winded way of saying I'm really looking forward to competing in that tournament again! And winning it!
