I hear you - wedges are def a very personal thing for people. Curious how the vinegar bath changes the SBs for you.

According to my last practice session with Epic Max (using TopTracer at my range) and Arccos in my round yesterday…yes. Granted it’s only a small sample size of shots, so I’m curious if this gap will widen (or lessen) over time / practice.

Played 9 holes today after work at Brainerd Golf Course with some friends from work. We had a fun time today and it was nice to let one of my other playing partners see the Cobra's. I think he might have fell in love with the black Forged Tec X. 

I shot 55 today but felt I hit the ball much better than that, with the exception of driver. I started out good with it, but on the 4th hole I developed a severe case of the pull hooks. I also ran into a problem with bunkers again on the 5th. I got the ball out on the first hit and immediately had it run into another bunker. I got out of that one and that ball ran across the green into a little rough. Needless to say I shot an 8 on that hole. 

I also had a blowup on 8 where it more or less was a stupid decision on my part to hit 3 wood after a pull hook and challenge a pond...twice. There was two lost balls.

It wasn't all bad, I hit several good shots. The par 4 7th hole plays 305 and I hit a driver that bounced out of the trees in the left and left me with 190 in. Hit a bad 5 wood right of the green leaving me with a shot over a rock wall to the elevated green. The last time I was in this position, it didn't work out too well. I pulled 58° and hit a nice, high floater that landed just off the green.

On the 9th hole, I hit a decent drive again leaving me around 190 out on a lie that was above my feet. I hit a pured 4 hybrid that landed just short of the elevated green. 

I also came close to making a 45 foot putt from the fringe. 

Sorry for the rushed recap of my round, it's getting close to bedtime. I'll go into a better recap of the clubs tomorrow. Let's just say I feel like better days are ahead.

... Pretty routine round yesterday and very little to talk about other than the Aerojet 7 wood. It just continues to impress me. I had 230 to a middle pin on a par 5 with a steep front, making running it on difficult so I decided to hit my 7 wood just short and chip. Huge deep bunker with no sand and a very high lip just wasn't with challenging. Maybe a 7-8mph wind at my back and I pushed it right and into the bunker... but to my surprise it cleared the bunker leaving me an eagle putt from the fringe. I laser'ed it and it was a 223yd carry which is about the same as a mediocre driver for me. This 7 wood is so easy to elevate, very forgiving and when hit in the dead center it is sneaky long.

... Of all the Cobra clubs I ordered the 7 wood was the club I was most skeptical about using and it has turned into one of my favorite clubs in a very short period of time. My guess is a normal carry is around 210 but nice to know it has a reserve tank and a real weapon with some wind at my back.

Since I got home late and had to rush with my round recap last night, I thought I would talk about the performance of the Cobra's after a good night's sleep to get my brain working. 

Driver: I've got to say I didn't perform well for this club yesterday. I split the fairway on the first hole and my performance dropped after that. I developed a bad case of the pull hooks I'm going to attribute to falling back into the old habit of falling back on my trail foot. I've been working with one swing thought that has been good, for me, that I'm just thinking relax, twist, and turn. Yesterday it was tense up, fall back to the outside of trail foot, and flail at the ball. I didn't figure out what was going on until the last hole where I once again hit the fairway.

Fairways: I hit them better than I normally do which is to say I had more good shots than bad. I hit a couple of stinkers, but for the most part I was getting them airborne going in the direction I wanted them to go. I regret not using them more off the tee but the allure of the driver overcame coming sense.

Hybrids: Love them! On the first hole I had around 170 to the green and pulled the 5 and aimed toward the right of the green, I wanted to aim away from the pond on the left and ended up pin high right of the green. I hit the 4 off the tee on the par 3 200 yard 6th hole proceeded to hit it just a bit chunky and still only missed the green by about 15 feet. I used the 4 again on the 9th this time with 190 left to the flag on a shot that was severely above my feet and hit it so pure. I managed to come up short right but the above the feet shot is one I struggle with and hitting it so good was THE shot that makes me want to come back for more.

Irons: They performed well for how bad I was swinging them. The shot that sticks out in my mind was a partial GW on a 80 yard shot that landed on the green short of the flag and stopped quickly after landing. 

Wedges: They continue to perform well and really impressed me on a hard, tight course that I couldn't hit a decent wedge too she my life. I duffed a couple of them, but that was more my fault for hitting conservatively and not trusting myself to make a good swing. On the 300 yard 7th hole, my second shot ended up exactly where I didn't want it to go: right of the green into a depression with a high rock wall guarding the green. 

I opened up the 58 and hit a nice high floater that landed just off the green.

Putter: it's getting better. I was a little tentative on the greens at Brainerd, they're hard and fast. I've still got to work on speed control and trusting the Agera to do its job. I did almost sink a 40+ footer on the 8th from off the green and left myself an easy tap in. 

It continues to amaze me how well a properly fitted set performs.

My clubs have finally arrived!!

They showed up with just enough time for me to open the boxes and admire them for a few moments before I had to head off to work.  Planning to take a few more detailed photos after work tonight and hoping to squeeze in nine between a doctor's appointment and work tomorrow.  Here's a quick couple photos:

These clubs...in a word...effortless.

 

Did some unboxing and photos of the clubs last night but things are a little too hectic for me to get a proper post up for that yet.  Hopefully overnight tonight.  Did manage to squeeze in a quick nine today with Owen between raindrops, a doctor's appointment, and work.  Not an official round as I tried to hit every club and moved my ball around for some different shot opportunities.  

If anyone's been paying attention elsewhere, you'll know that my game has been all over the place this year and mostly not great.  That didn't magically change with these clubs (well, most of the clubs).  My irons were hooky again, and that's leaking into my longer clubs as well.  Having never hit higher-lofted hybrid outside of my fitting, I also had some issues with my aim.

But on the whole...holy cow does the ball just jump off the face with these clubs!  Even my mis-hits and most chunks went a very respectable distance.  I truly do think that once I can get out of my own way, these clubs will be a game changer.  And after my first swing with my 58° I was in love!

It's great to hear you were finally able to get out and hit your clubs! I was curious how you would hit the 6 hybrid as I've never hit one that lofted. I'm personally inn love with the 4 and 5, they've given me such good options in the longer clubs and the ball does absolutely rocket off the face. 

How was the putter?

Putter was good.  Ball rolled true every time and right on my line.  Will take a little getting used to, as I'm switching from a lighter blade to a heavier mallet.  I couldn't get the speed right and left most of my putts short.  Randomly, I blasted one putt and the ball hit the lip and did about a 450° before dropping in the cup, which doesn't mean anything but was super cool to witness.  I didn't like using the mallet off the green, though.  It felt like it was going to catch in the grass somewhere but that may just be a mental block.

I didn't get to hit the 6 hybrid in my fitting as it was a more custom option.  I don't know how I feel about it.  My game's been in a bad place for a while and I decided to experiment and go hybrid-heavy because it was about the only thing I hit well at my fitting.  The 6 and even the 5 visually don't line up in a way that seems right to me, although to be fair alignment has long been one of my issues anyway.  I had the same situation with my 7 wood, too.  I already gamed a 7 wood but it was an older club with a much smaller head.  Overall just going to take some getting used to.

Might be worth using the 5 or 6 hybrid like a putter for those off-the-green shots. I know what you mean with the mallet putter in those situations though - my approach is usually go put the ball a bit further up in my stance so I’m hitting up on it a bit.
