Well, had a pretty good round, had a couple of putts skim the hole for additional birds, and bounced an eagle Cup off the stick, but it went too far away to convert the birdie.  Then the winds came up again over the last 6 holes to make it a tad more difficult sometimes 2 extra clubs into the wind.  And yes, my course handicap did drop 1.

The Granite Falls North course is being shut down on May 15 for complete green overhaul and new grass installation. The Course has sprayed the green to kill them before work starts so the putting surface is dried out and very hard. I had a total of 40 putts today with 10 GIR just to show how bad the greens are. The rest of my game was good  with 10 GIR and 10 out of 14 fairway hit too.

I played well, but a couple errors with wedges in hand and a 3 putt kept me from breaking 80 for the 1st time. Just missed 3 or 4 putts that would have done it, including an 18' eagle putt on #18. That was the closest I've come to an albatross I'm pretty sure my ball mark was 8' away from the hole. Also had one that made me think I was getting my first hole in one, but it was an optical illusion I missed the 6' birdie putt.

20230501_145850.jpg.f6776e6489d49767f396465cf41ccdb8.jpg

Played solo for the 1st 5 and I was in a groove, caught up with someone on 6. "There's a slow group up there, I'll wait for you to tee off." Oh no.

My new playing partner and I finished the front 9 and played through the group ahead at the turn, but at #10 we ran into the high school girl's match in front of them. Very long wait. I learned high school competitions don't have a maximum score rule apparently.

Back 9 started bogey bogey bogey double double after a 38 on the front. Ouch, ouch ouch, double ouch. Eventually I adapted to the pace, finished -1 over the final 4 holes.

Well...whatever I had figured out last week is now gone. Hit it terribly. I did stay positive and really embraced just being out on the course on a beautiful day. I putted like an ape. But as only round 3 of 2023 I am supremely confident that I will bounce back! Just have to get back into the lab.

From my scoring recently, I'm glad I played well enough in Season 1 to at least get on a first page of the leaderboard at some point in my golfing career!   I've hit a scoring rough patch lately when most of the country is just getting into playing.  Today's score reflects that rough patch.

In my defense, I am getting used to my replacement Ping G430 driver and I'm in the middle of MyGolfSpy's review of the Callaway Paradym X irons.  So there in some inherent variability in my game at this moment.  But that's all a smokescreen!  My swing, especially with my iron play, is in the need off some professional help!  Hopefully at the end of this week in my travels to Jacksonville, Florida I can find somewhere I can have someone look at what I call a swing and make some adjustments.

image.png.fd9de39ad812e0fe3bfd890cb772df5c.png

I had another 3 putt today (which is unusual for me) and only three up and downs.  Not a good combination.  The 64% fairways hit is trending upward back to my Ping G400 SFT driver days, but still a bit short of my typical 74%.

During the above mentioned trip to Jacksonville, I'll be playing my first round "off the rock" of Key West in a long time.  We have a tee time at the HoF Slammer and Squire course.  I'm excited to play somewhere different for a change as it's been 115 rounds since I played somewhere else!

Played 9 holes at Clearbrook par 35, keeping the ball in play but had trouble scoring. +7 42 is around my average here.

20230502_115825.jpg.4c0a6dcb2f840e02f7c0837c041aa4ce.jpg20230502_121743.jpg.5983af7e58cd35fc1df857e1816e6d02.jpg20230502_124151.jpg.7358e115811cca87b1d3fe751c387a2a.jpg

45 minute drive to Colonial Terrace, another par 35 9 hole. I think I stiffened up on the drive, should have stretched before I went out like normal but i figured I just played 9. Nothing felt comfortable all round. Started double on #1, triple on #2 and lost interest for a few holes.

Long walk after #6 to the 7th tee I figured my +10 after 6 score and smoked a cigarette. Played 7-9 at E including a near hole in one on #8.

With that post... you are now signed up 🙂

Welcome to the Forum Virtual Championship Tour GolfDad.  All you need is a course handicap and an 18 hole round to post your score in the weekly competition.  Feel free to read through the link below that outlines much of the basics... but the intent is to provide a place to post your net scores against other members of the MGS Forum and maybe win a cool looking badge for your profile, and be able to show it off for a week. 🙂 .  We are an honor system, because all on MGS are honorable people.

I also tally the weekly results and have a season long points race - the MGS Forum Cup.  So you are starting a bit behind on the year long points, but it is a long season and plenty of time to catch up.  Not everyone can post a round every week, so it shouldn't be too much of a detriment to the points that you are starting in Week 5.  I haven't yet compiled the first tally for season 2 points... but I will do so in the next week or so... and try to update the points every 3 or 4 weeks.  You can take a look at the Season 1 Forum Cup thread for more information on that.

If you have any questions at all, let me know.  I'm happy to help in anyway I can.

This round really dropped my hanScreenshotfrom2023-05-0308-38-12.png.0a033e35989a9d63024e9611a67e0415.pngdicap... I really felt like I started to come into my own with my iron play and kept way more shots than I'm used to in play.Screenshotfrom2023-05-0308-38-56.png.67fbbc0827b5143126822ce9dfb429df.png

So jealous watching all these scores roll in. Too busy to play these last couple of weeks but it’s looking brighter next week and beyond! And getting to play Landmand at the end of the month!

Breezy day along the water at MacDill. Putting the OnCore VeroX1 through its paces for the member test. That 260 beat both the ProV1 and ProV1x.

Played in our last Winter tournament in Sun City Grand. I had my best score of the year with the Men's Club. I shot a 75 with two birdies and only one double bogey. I had 31 putts for the round which is very good on our two year old greens. Overall it was a great day.

Pretty average round. Nothing horrible, nothing great. I was really focusing on my putting stats. I had 16 2-putts. Almost all resulting in slight misreads. I have a theory behind that but studying the situation more.

I also played in a scramble tonight. I made 6 of 9 long birdie putts. Unfortunately, I was the only one on my team to make a putt and we lost.

About the only good thing about today was I got there with $63. Had a $20 buy in for the 18 hole round, and a $25 buy in for the Scramble and left with $78. So a good day for mediocre golf.

Couldn't hit driver on the range before the round, so I left in the bag. Long drive was with the 4 wood on hole 13 up hill. Blew my 56 over the green, checked the chip for a smooth bogie.

I'm fighting this over the top, no hip turn fade. Hard to get used to after having a draw for the last 10 years.

2 triples, 4 bogies, only 2 pars.

Not to terribly upset other than the driver feels like I've never swung a club in my life.

Good Luck everyone. Not sure I'll get out again this week.

Finally got away from work and was able to get some golf in today!

Pretty solid round. They need to mow. I'm not getting any roll out on drives anymore. 😥

Chipping is finally coming back and man did it save me today.

My long drive was by no means my "best" drive. Kind of embarrassed to post it but hey who really cares lol. Hard pull on 18 made it 280. I was averaging around 270 on my other drives but this one took the ribbon. Luckily, I was able to hit a great shot with my 6i and land it on the back fringe. 3 putts because why not for par to end the round. I think a little bit of me was thinking about it too much. I had been long on a number of putts this round and didn't want to send it flying past the pin on my eagle putt. Of course I didn't hit it hard enough. 2nd putt was an under read and I barely missed on the low side.

Regardless, it was a beautiful day and the course wasn't very busy. Even got a 2 min sprinkle while I was out to keep things cool.

Living in the mid 80s. Which truthfully is terribly frustrating.

I had a stretch from hole 4 to 12 which I played 2 over with one decent birdie chance. Just smart safe golf.

The other ends of the round were brutal.

It was the first round with the p790s with the new shaft and with the range being closed I didnt have time for practice which sucked. However yeah just not what I am hoping for.

Another round tomorrow morning first thing. Hoping for better things... and a new driver going in the bag because WTHN.

Rough day yesterday. Started with bogeys, turned to doubles, put an 8 on the scorecard at one point. I stopped keeping notes around hole 8. Made the turn at 50. Managed to birdie #11 and par 3 of the last 4 but still put a 47 on the back 9 due to penalties. Struggle bus made stops at driverville, wedge city, 8 iron alley, hybrid highway. The struggle bus was all over the place.

Yet another round where my putting was a stroke saver, very uncharacteristic of me. 97 with 33 putts with makes from 6', 8' and 12' and lags from the fringe from 25' and 30' to manage 6 or 7 a couple times.

I played this course end of February and shot 93 with 43 putts.

Finding a way to turn birdies into bogeys since 1992. #TeamChunks

Actually really happy with this round even though I was only at a net 76.  Felt like I had my C- game today.  Only hit 3 of 14 fairways (though most were just in the rough), and 9 of 18 greens, but someone managed to limit the damage on most holes and still stay in the 70's.

A much better day.

Still a could have should have day, but started out much better and felt a lot more comfortable on the course.

Missed started my back 9 going birdie eagle by about half a cup combined which stung, but overall happier.

Plus was just a really nice day with a lovely lady who I had never golfed with before and we had a great bit of fun!
