How much does wind actually effect your ball?

Curious what everyone’s thought’s were on how much wind actually effects the ball? For example 10min right to left, 150yard shot, does that mean 5 yards?

 What about off the tee? 200yards?

5mph, 15mph?

curious how much others compensate as I think I probably don’t compensate enough. 
 

also wonder how much the different balls effects it.

Without a doubt different balls react differently in wind conditions. It is one of the reasons why the pros play the balls they do and often where you hear that they find companies make small improvements in theirs. Not in distance or spin etc, but with performance in windy conditions. 

I can't say how much I adjust. It really is a feel thing and with the courses I play there are so many trees that in many cases as long as you stay under them the ball isnt affect too much. It is when you go above them that you find the ball is affected more. 

Then you get into if you play or a draw or fade and where the wind is coming. I think there are so many different answers and I will be very curious to hear what others say.

I just finished a round last weekend where the winds were steady 20-30mph with gusts over 40mph. Granted, these were extreme conditions but even putts were affected that day. 
In more modest conditions like 5-15mph I would typically adjust one club for each 7mph increment. Additionally, I will adjust more so going into the wind than I do with. For example, I might add three clubs with a 20mph wind in my face but I’ll only adjust two when going with the wind.

I'm still learning about wind, but let me pass along a story. My first real wind experience was on a vacation trip that included a round at the Ocean Course. For the front nine the wind was tame, and my poor score was solely the results of Pete Dye's wickedness. After the turn, the wind really picked up, 30+ gusts. We started downwind, and I flew the green on a 340 yd par 4 with a 3 wood (my average driver carry at the time was about 260). Coming back, 17 is a par 3 over water. I took what I thought was a conservative line, about 150 to clear the water, and hit a 3 iron (which should have gone 200+). I hit it well, and failed to clear the water. The guy with me then hit driver and cleared on a more agressive line by only a few yards.

Sounds a lot like my round last Sunday. Had a 410 yard par 4 dead into the wind. Went driver then three wood and was still 50 yards out. Played a bump and run 8-iron from 50 yards and walked happily away with bogey. Next home was 510 yard par 5 with the wind and went driver 9-iron. Strong wind makes for crazy golf rounds.

Also curious left and right instead of just head on.

I play with pretty strong (10-15 mph) wind on regular basis here in Hawaii. I’d say the quality of the strike of the ball has an influence on how much the wind will affect it.

Great resource. Of course you can affect those numbers based on whether you play it low or hit high as well. But a great baseline for how to adjust for the wind.

The sciece says 1% per mile per hour with a face wind, .5% per mile per hour tail wind. I change balls based on wind. Pro V1's perform well in the Wind as do Srixon X. Maxfli Tour in middle winds, Tour S in strong winds.

The important thing to remember is that when you play for that strong wind consistently blowing all day, it will 100% stop as you hit the ball.
