... Amen brother. While I am not as long as you I struggle with those same gaps at either end of my bag. As much as I don't like to pay attention to stats, I should probably chart a few weeks of what clubs I use on either end and write down any inbetweens I face. Right now I'm using a 46*, 51* and 58*. Having won the 3 Vokeys in the Ryder Cup contest 🥰 I ordered the 50*, 54* and 58*. To add the third wedge I'll have to drop my 7 wood or 4 hybrid that I rotate depending on the course and conditions.

Completely forgot you won that contest @chisag - embarrassment of riches for you this year with club options!

Went back to the range this evening, to continue working on the driver. Played 15 holes virtually at Pebble Beach prior to running out of balls. The weather this evening was chilly and about 25 degrees cooler than yesterday afternoon’s session. The conditions helped illuminate a point regarding T200 irons that, to this point, I hadn’t considered. With the cooler temps, the slightly off center strikes aren’t painful and the distance loss isn’t as severe as less forgiving options. The 5 and 6 today were spot on. I’m still leaning towards a T150 7 iron, but the T200 5 & 6 have firmly entrenched themselves.

On a semi-related note, I have back to the Callaway 4 utility. The T200 4 utility is nice but ultimately what I get out of it is far too similar to the 5 iron.

Went back and took some more photos. Did notice an issue with the t200 finish. Doesn't look like bag chatter to me, but it's as tho it got sun burnt and the skin is peeling.

Great Pics!   You mentioned one of the irons had a blistered/sunburned appearance.  I had the exact same thing happen to one of the Taylormade HD irons I had.  I sent pics to them and they sent a replacement. That was the only iron that had that happen to it.

I am going to keep an eye on it. It is weird, but of course has no effect on the performance of the club itself.

How many of you reading this have given your grips a significant amount of attention?

This is an observation that I’ve noticed last week about ribbed v non ribbed grips.

Prior to the test I was swinging Lamkin Sonar Wrap with calibrate. I loved the feel and felt like I was playing great golf. The T100 setup did not offer a rib grip that I like and I chose the feel of the Sonar technology over that particular feel of having a rib.

Since switching, my handicap index has dropped nearly 2 strokes and my GIR have improved significantly. Not only that, my driving has improved to where I’m hitting 62% of my fairways as opposed to 55% earlier in the season.

Is it all because of a grip?  Maybe not. Maybe so.

Maybe it’ll help you decide what grip to play in your setup.

I have the Golf Pride CP2 mid-size grips on my T350 irons and love em!  I've gone from a 14.6 (15) to an 11.4 since bagging the T350 irons. In my case, I would attribute my drop in handicap to a great fitting, awesome irons that I have confidence in, and solid grips that I have come to enjoy the last few years.

... You may be a little young to remember ribbed grips were pretty much all that were available in the 70's and early 80's. Tour Velvet were about the only grip I can remember that could be ordered round without the rib reminder. Many on tour used them along with low index players that like to manipulate the club head around the green, out of sand or playing a big draw or fade and better control of the club face. Slowly round became the predominant grip style and I had to smile at *NEW* Calibrate and Align grip technology and the description is pretty much the same as when they came out with round grips  "now available with ALIGN® Technology to improve clubface awareness and bring more consistency to your game" and  "Calibrate, our pronounced reminder strip technology, creates more clubface awareness, accuracy and feel."

... My personal opinion is a rib reminder is a good idea for beginners that are still learning to grip the club correctly while round grips are a better option for players that like to play different shots. Of course feel and personal preference can have a big influence on using one over the other.

Young by age but not by technology.  I started playing in 1988 and fell in love with the green victory grips at age 7.  The reminder rib was a great way (as you mention) to teach a beginner how to properly hold the golf club.

As i grew older and the Tiger effect made its way through golf, the round tour velvet cords were the grip.  It wasn’t until a few years later when Golf Pride and Lamkin introduced align and calibrate tech respectively, I laughed thinking what is old is new again.

I didn’t expect to play better with a round grip but here we are.

and I am sure you are a little too young to remember the "leather" grips... I still have a few of my dad's mcgregors with the leather grips, I can still feel where he placed his hands. As a little guy we had "stick em" a type of paste we would put on our glove to help grip the club better, problem was it hardened on the glove and make the glove not playable, we played with it anyway lol

and just for sh*ts and giggles, since I have an extra 8 minutes this early afternoon, what were your 1st. set of "real" golf clubs.

My story is... and I like to tell stories lol... My Uncle, and my favourite uncle, was a senior pilot for CP Air back in the 50's-60's and early 70's. He was based out of Lima Peru from about 1958-1974, but would come back to Vancouver for physicals and updates once every 6 months, anyway one year he comes back and brings me a full set of "Lady Haig Ultra's" woods, irons bag and all... man oh man, I was a big shot at my little 9 hole course, which may dad helped design by the way. Anyway that was my 1st set of real clubs...

From yesterday’s round:

Just when I had almost completely written off the T200 7 iron, it contributed this to the conversation:

IMG_1469.jpeg

An absolutely lovely high draw that landed 12 feet from the pin and stopped. It left me with a nice birdie chance, that my putter failed to capitalize on, but that’s neither here nor there. Maybe this horse race isn’t quite over yet…

Beautiful weather in Georgia this week and my Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday rounds were within a stroke of each other.

82 - 83 - 82

It's just hard to not shoot low 80's are better with the T350s for my game.  Won a par three closeup on Monday and another one today.

From today’s round:

The Par 4 2nd hole at my home course of Majestic Springs could be fairly described as my nemesis. Many a round gets off to a bumpy start because this hole vexes me. From the green tees, it is a straight drive that needs to carry 255 yards, otherwise the play is to lay up to the end of the first fairway leaving between 160-200 in to a fairly narrow green. Today, I hit a perfect 6 iron to the edge of that fairway, and followed that with an 8 iron to about 20 feet. Lagged that to about a foot and tapped in for par.

IMG_1476.jpeg

The more I play these irons, the more I like them.

Well played. Holes like that are so tempting to hit driver yet almost always end badly when you do.

Played another 9-hole Iron Man challenge earliler this week. The base where I work has two courses, and the North course is much less busy, so it's usually not a problem to play multiple shots or something like this. It isn't the best conditions-wise. Not all the fairways are mown closely, and the green speeds are a little inconsistent. It's fun though recalling the days of my H.S. team using it for practice and learning the game with my buds there.

This time the scoring was relatively even. It was 75 and sunny, but the breeze was a steady 15+ through the round. I am a little disappointed that it took me until the 7th hole on either ball to finally hit a green in regulation. Iron Man's only missed fairway was costly. It was a bit of a pull on a shot where I was trying to make a forced carry, and didn't, adding a penalty to Iron Man's score where Bag Boy pulled it off with the driver. Iron Man also had one 3 putt bogey while Bag Boy made a long birdie after making another high risk tee shot pay off. Those two strokes were the difference this time, and Iron Man took the loss by 1 stroke.

Once again, even though I didn't have a great ball striking day into the greens, both scores were 40 or better on a day with challenging wind conditions. I had a much better than average day off the tees though only missing three fairways out of 14 tee balls. And only one of those needed a recovery shot to get back into the line of play and get a short game save for par. The T200s are solid and predictble. I'm sold on the results. I'm still trying to get accustomed to the change in feel. While you can really tell when you get a pure strike on the sweet spot through feel and sound, the feel feedback on the off center hits is less telling than the sound. The good news is those slight mis-hits don't seem as costly as anticipated on distance.

A visual representation of some 7 irons from a session a few weeks back.  Symmetrical and precise, as I have begun to admire from these irons on a consistent basis.

Catching up on this thread after a busy couple of weeks at work...fantastic job gents! I love reading the intros/fitting stories/conclusions (and appreciate that they are easily found/linked at the front of the thread).

Also, great to see the group having such a positive experience with their sticks. The test itself is super cool but when the testers also get gamer sets for hopefully a long time it further validates the products and the experience IMO. 👍

Had my first official round with the new T irons the other day with @Golfspy_CG2 @Pingman33  I'd say I hit them well.  Especially the T350 4 & 5 iron ... off the tee box they are great launchers for short par 4's.  So damn easy to hit.  Had another round with them on Sunday & have no complaints.  Hit this high towering 7 iron into a par 3 that just stopped on a dime & even backed up a bit more than usual.  I'm really starting to get into a groove with them already.  Not sure I want to take out the KBS C-taper lite shafts quite yet.  I'm going to give them a go for a while.  To be continued ..........

Great feedback! Do you find them longer and more accurate than your normal irons?

Play like a champion today!

I'd love to hear your feedback on the Recoil Dart 105's. They're on my short list for testing in the Spring when I go for some fittings. I'm going graphite (unless I just can't play graphite) due to elbow issues (and oncoming wrist and hand angriness) and Darts are high on my list.

Went to Black Diamond Ranch this past Saturday and played the Quarry Course. First visit back there in about two years. New management has changed the dynamic a bit. In the past they were (if I'm using nice words) 'inhospitable' to guest players. This time they were more than welcoming and we had a great time. Also fired off my best round there yet. 39-43-82. The T200s are getting me in a groove of sub-40 nine hole scores.

(It's only 180 yards and about a 40 foot drop to the green from the tips - par three opener of the 5 quarry holes)

the T350 4 & 5 iron are definitely longer for sure ... at least a half a club.  The T200's are about the same.  But I only have two rounds on them so far, so time will tell
