How'd you play?

Well I played on Tuesday and I literally walked off the course after my drive on the 9th hole. I have a lot of personal issues going on right now and just can't focus enough to even play golf right now.

... How can you not love this game? I had to play the back 9 twice because of ladies leagues and started off Birdie-birdie-birdie. 3 under after 3 with little wind and the course in really good shape so it was difficult not to have expectations. Then went 11 straight holes with pars. The frustrating part was I hit 10 greens and still could not get another birdie, lipping out 2 and 360'ing another. Finally carded a bogie when I caught the very edge of the bunker on a 189 yd par 3 and ... yup ... lipped out my par putt. On 17 I had a difficult put up and over a ridge that rolled 15 feet past and made the comeback putt then birdied 18 so I didn't drive home with a bad taste in my mouth.

... I don't care what level you play at, there are always highs and lows that make this game so addicting whether you are trying to break 100 or 70. Starting out 3 under I was feeling like I had a chance to go really low but the Golf Gods had other plans for me. I could bemoan my bad luck with those putts but the Golf Gods didn't hit the lips, I did.

Golf has been the only pastime I have done over the last 70 years that I can honestly say I forget everything except the hole I'm on.

It's a beautiful thing

I use to get sooooooo frustrated at this crazy game.  Truth be known there were times to where I would value my self worth on how well I played.  Several years ago you couldn't sell my old arse for fifty cents back in my pity party days.  The good thing is I finally realized that golf is something we are to enjoy and not agonize over.  Sure we hate hitting a bunch of hacker shots however our best breeding bull is not dying or your love ones did not just have a horrific wreck.   I will say that when you are going through emotional times there is no fun in anything you might be trying so it may be a time to reflect on something positive.  Life sometimes sucks and golf can be a biotch, however we can choose to move on and up. Where we choose to go is ours alone.

Played the first round playoff match of my companies golf league. We one the match and are now the highest remaining seed with only 2 of the top 8 seed remaining We were the third seed.

Finished the 9 hole round at 4 over. 3 of the 4 bogeys were a direct result of missing the green and not being able to get up and down. The 4th was a 3 putt from about 60 feet. Overall was pretty happy , Just need to spend some quality time with my wedges

Nice play.

I birdied the first two holes at my course once, then I said... "I could break the course record, theoretically."  Oh, woe is me!!

Took my son with me to work today and he was working hard.

Ducked out at 3 to go play nine with him. He played nine and I played a few holes since I spent time working in his game a bit. He is playing the PGA Jr. League all star match tomorrow and he wanted to get ready for it.

Worst feeling 79 ever I think. Back was sore and the swing was so uncomfortable I can't describe it. Other than two three putts my short game saved me today. I think I had maybe four birdie putts all day and only two were within fifteen feet. Needless to say none of them dropped. Driver and 3w were the only clubs that felt remotely comfortable and I didn't feel like I had any power. That said, it's unlikely I'll ever complain about a 79 and today won't be the day!

Watched my son play a nine hole match today and could not be more frustrated. He played fairly well but the tournament was run very poorly to say the least. I get not having parents coach the kids but to have 10 and 11 year olds out for nine holes with nobody but parents to help them with rules and order of play is atrocious. I was threatened with getting thrown off the course for correcting a bad drop that gave my son an advantage. This was after watching his group try and figure it out for 10 minutes. Needless to say this won't be in the schedule for next year.

My goal is to break 90 by the end of summer, but, I've been riding the struggle bus as far as that goes.

If anyone has tips on how they got their score to get below 90 then I am all ears...!

I also had this round a couple days ago. My best in about 17 years! [edit - This was from the championship tees, 7030 yds, and the eagle on 11 is a 625 yard par 5, rated 2nd hardest hole on the course. It was a good day!]

A very unusual weekend of golf for me. Played an extremely casual 9 holes yesterday after a great mates 50th party the night before. Played in a group of 7, and managed to keep up with the 4 in front, and away from the2 behind. Had a bit of fun on a hilly, very muddy course with very slow greens. It was a very chilly day of about 45.

Today I played in a charity day at Barwon Heads Golf Club, a stunning course about 20 minutes from home. It is rated in the top 30 courses in Australia, and is usually very snobby. The charity day was for the local primary school, and I played with a friend of mine who is the school principal. The greens were sensational, quick and very true. They have a reputation for being some of the best greens in Australia, and they stood up to the reputation.

Two of the guys I played with had no idea about golf were great company. The other guy was also great company, but could hit a great ball when he got it well.

I drove the ball really well, missed only 2 fairways, one by about a metre. Irons were a bit of a struggle, but wedges were really solid. Putted well, it was a really fun day. Cost a whole $40, amazing value compared to the normal green fee of $110.

Have a look at the website, it's a truly wonderful place to play golf.

So, I officially hit the longest drive ever recorded on my gps watch. Did I hit a cart path? A gentleman never tells!!!

I also had this round a couple days ago. My best in about 17 years! [edit - This was from the championship tees, 7030 yds, and the eagle on 11 is a 625 yard par 5, rated 2nd hardest hole on the course. It was a good day!]
