Popular Post Shapotomous
I got out for the 9 hole league last evening and had 12 putts....which means i was missing greens! The good part was I got up & down 5 times the bad part was i was generally a bit long with the irons. I did a range session over the weekend to get better iron contact which actually worked but I didn't adjust to the change in carry i was getting. Especially on a few 49* shots with my stock 100 yard swing that went 110 instead! Finally adjusted on the last hole (I am a slow learner) and birdied it to halve the match so it was a good ending. Popular Post juspoole
I got out for a scramble yesterday. Had a great time and knew going in, my group couldn't really contend. It was myself and a few buddies, who are 28 - 36 handicaps. It was still difficult for my competitive nature to be pushed back down. As you might imagine, 98% of the shots used were my own ball, but had a really good time. Was able to give a few tips here and there (when asked only) and saw some improvement from the guys I was playing with. Drove the ball the best I have all year. And many times, I had to hit a good drive or we wouldn't be in play so still was a little pressure on my ball. Unfortunately, most other aspects of my game were just mediocre. Did not really put any approaches closer than 12 feet all day. Most were 25 - 40 feet so we didn't make that many birdies. Finished at -7 par 63. Only two par 5's so definitely could have had a few more, but it was for a great cause and nice to be off work for a half day with some good buddies. Popular Post Rickp
Played one of my favorite courses this morning, lots of water and forced carry over wet areas. Love it! Driver (TSi2) was on board and so were the irons, even hybrid was going where I aimed it. We picked this course because greens were aerated a couple weeks ago so they were pure. Shot +3 (39) with 1 Birdie. Popular Post MattWillGolf
This is my first round after having my best round even. Today’s round was classified as “Regression to the Mean”. Played a quick 9 this morning. Meh. Only one 3 putt though. The rest were 2 putts. No 1 putts but lots of really short second puts so I’d call that a win. I had my best drive of the day on my last hole. Popular Post GolfSpy_SHARK
Good dew sweeper round. 6:45 tee time for 9 holes was done before 8:30. -40 (+5) 1 Double, 3 bogeys and 5 pars. -5/7 fairways 1/9 greens (the approach struggle continues) 4 up and downs! (with an average putt of 5') and 13 putts including 5 1 putts! and no 3 putts! (The O-works knows its on the testing hot seat) Struggled off the tee, only 2 good drives. Again approach shots were just not good, was short and catching them fat. Chipping was fantastic and put a lot close and the putts were just falling for me with really good lag putting again. I had my chances for bird and just didn't happen but kept the damage to the minimum. Here is one, focusing on setup, and I have choked down on the putter about an inch (thanks @B.Boston) which is helping me keep the toe down. This was a 39' first putt and had a 3' easy tap in. Popular Post Jonny_Crash
I played 9 at Soldier Hollow in Midway, Utah the other day. First hole, stroked a drive over a fairway bunker, 54* to about 3 feet... rolled in the putt for the first bird in a long time. Second hole, approach was long, missed a 4' par putt... bogey. Third hole (par 5), lost 2 drives, hit a nice 6i to about 80 yards, lost two balls from there for a 10. I stuck an 8i from 177 to 4' for my second birdie on 5. Hole 8 was the worst. I hit a drive 310 perfectly down the middle, 139 into the green. Airmailed my approach and settled for a bogey. Two more lost drives on 9 (both decent shots, but one was right and one went through the fairway). That round pretty much sums up my golf game these days. I need to work on distances. I thought I had them dialed, but then sometimes I just hammer it even when I'm trying to swing easy. I almost always hit long, so maybe I need to club down. It sure was pretty out there though! Popular Post GolfSpy BOS
Well as Mark mentioned we got out for out morning round this AM. I have really nothing to complain about this round. Pretty solid round for me, and I’m very happy with the Epic Max LS off the tee. Average 257 off the tee (more on that in a moment) and after missing 3 of the first 4 fairways I hit the last 3 with some really good drives. 5 GIR is another solid number for me. I have one three putt (on the same hole as last time too) which was frustrating, but the greens were much faster today, and I left myself in a really bad spot with a downhill bending putt that just kept running past the hole. I almost made the comeback putt but missed for the tap in 3 putt. I only had two real errors, on the last two holes. My second after a great drive on the par 5 was fat and didn’t advance the ball well. I dropped a second ball down and had the right club, ended up on the green and made “birdie” with that ball and bogey with mine (that damn 3-putt!). Then my tee shot on the par 3 9th was terribly fat and toey. Ball went into a creek so I re-teed and hit a great shot to about 8 feet and made the one-putt bogey. Another bad swing or two but really I felt pretty good today. Now, the Epic Max LS and Motore X combo performed really good today. Missed my first 3 fairways with it, but hit the last 3 and was never really in a terrible spot. One I had to hit a punch under some branches. But the highlight was in the consistency: With the exception of the 7th, every drive was 260+ This is exactly what I saw in my fitting, and should highlight the forgiveness in that head. On top of that, the 7th hole is a uphill par 4, and the course was still wet. I went back in history and my longest on that hole was only 263. So the Max LS performed awesome. The strokes gained figure at the top of this post really highlighted it for me. It’s the first time all year that my driving has been positive strokes gained against a scratch golfer (hey we all have goals right!?). That honestly surprised me, but I’m stoked to see that having an impact right away. Popular Post MaxEntropy
A friend and I are taking advantage of a "stay and play" deal offered by a country club in Canton (Glenmoor, for the locals) - 2 rounds of golf and a night of lodging on site for $215. The course is a Nicklaus design. Today was round 1. I started birdie, par, par, and piped the drive on 4. The swing felt relaxed and effortless. Then the wheels feel off for a while - bogey, double, double. Ended up with a 42 on the front. The back was going pretty well until 16. Easy enough hole on paper, but I flared my second into a pond. Drop and hit my wedge long into a bunker behind the green. It plugged below the back lip - no choice but to go almost sideways to get a club on the ball. Slope of the green took it into the rough in front of the green, almost back into the pond. Chip and 2-putt for an eight. Finished with a 46 on the back for an 88. Overall I was very pleased with my play, thinking about what could have been.... The course itself is gorgeous. A very nice layout with pretty generous fairways. I'm in terrible cell coverage so I'll post a couple pics after tomorrow's round. I’ve been talking about how bad I’ve been playing for a while no, and I feel like a broken record. The game isn’t fun when you’re struggling, and neither is talking about it. I love this place. You guys are all so supportive, and I feel like I have a group of “golf buddy’s” that I’ve never even met, if that makes sense. Here’s the thing though. I’m going to take a break from posting here. It’s not because I don’t enjoy it, I do. I’ll continue to lurk, and root for “my boys” to get where they want to be in this crazy game. I’ll be back, I just don’t have it in me right now to keep talking about yesterday’s round of bogey golf, and how frustrated I was/am by it. I’m at the point right now where I either walk away from the game, or dive in head first and work my ass off to get back on track, and I’m going to work, not quit. I’ll be playing at least 3 or 4 times a week, putting in practice time and keeping up with an instructor until at least the end of the summer. After that, I’ll reassess where I am. If things are getting better, great. If they aren’t, I’ll walk away from the game knowing I gave it my best shot. I can’t take playing like this, or getting any worse than I am playing now. I keep saying it, but it’s just not fun. So enjoy your summer, and play well. I’m rooting for each and every one of you to shoot your personal bests out there. Hopefully, when I get back to you it’s with happy news about my having righted this sinking ship! So, here’s what’s been going on… I took a lesson two days after the post above this, then found out my instructor passed away suddenly two nights later. That was the straw that broke the camel’s back. He was more than a teacher to me, he’d become a friend. After our final lesson we sat in a cart and talked about life for almost an hour. Then in mere hours, he was gone. I’m fortunate to live in a beautiful community with 4 excellent golf courses, but after all I’d told you about the state of my game, and then his passing, I needed to put the clubs away for a while. I finally got back out last Saturday. Shot 38 on the front, followed by 49 on the back. Played again Tuesday, 41 on the front(with a quad!!!) and again crashed on the back with a 51. That tells me to things. I still have “game” somewhere inside me, but I’m either unable to stay focused or strong enough physically to finish a round in the heat wave we’ve been going through down here. Neither is good, and yet to be honest, I find myself not caring enough right now either way. Ive always competed hard in sports. Played baseball through college, and hoops in high school. I took up golf very late, but loved the competition of playing in leagues and local events. For some reason that fire just isn’t there right now, and I feel like I’m going through the motions out there. Those of you who work, and really look forward to your weekly game probably can’t relate to what I’m talking about, but I’m wondering if any of you retired guys who play 3 or mor times a week have ever experienced the same feeling? cnosil, MattF, CarlH and 10 others 13 Quote Driver: G425 Max 10.5* Fairway: Stealth 3HL & 7W Hybrids: Stealth 22* & 25* Irons: JPX 923 HM 6-AW Wedges: Tour Issue Glide 4.0 54-12 Tour Issue Glide 4.0 58-10 Putter: ER7 34”
DStar
Played pretty poorly in the midweek stableford this week - 33 points (19 on the front 9). Couldn't get going off the tee until 16 when I realised I wasn't dropping my left shoulder to help hit up on the ball. On 16 I drove 280 into wind, 17 was 320 and 18 was 240 with my hybrid. Irons were OK on front 9 but lost my rhythm on the back. Putted OK which saved a few shots.. I find it hard to not get frustrated at playing poorly but need to keep telling myself that I'm only 4 months back to playing after a long layoff. On a plus my HC came down to 15.7 MattF, Shapotomous, RollingGreens and 6 others 9 Quote Aerojet F9 3/4 Wood Aldila NV 2KXV Blue JPX921SEL 4-PW Nippon Modus³ Tour 120 X SM8 50° F-Grind SM8 54° F-Grind SM8 58° K-Grind DStar 'Malvern' Putter AVX & -ProV1X Tour-X "Hey mister, your clubs are the wrong way round".. The SwingU app I have used since 2014 dutifully recorded a 47 on the front 9 and then a 42 on the back 9 for a total 18 hole score of 89. The reality hit me like a hammer when I realized I broke through the 90 level for the first time ever! Totally awed and still hearing my son Patrick's words (as he was driving us back to the clubhouse just over a mile from the Lake Course 18th green, "did you score each hole as you always do?" to help me wrap my mind around it. And the answer was of course "yes" as the creature of habit I am. One birdie and one par, the rest single and double bogies. Awesome day, awesome weather, awesome spending it with my son, and awesome surprise after touching the 'close and save' feature on the app... I think I will keep playing golf lol Let’s go!!!! Now it’s a quick step to always under 90 then 80 on the horizon!!! GolfSpy_SHARK 1 Quote "C'mon be good"

tchat07
Alright before I get excited about my round yesterday I have a rules question. Hit a tee shot that took an unlucky bounce and settled nicely next to a grain silo. The silo impeded my ability to swing, is there a penalty for the drop? Unplayable lie rule.... 1 stroke with the 3 drop options....within two club lengths, back along the line to the flag as far as you want or re-hit from where you hit the shot that got you there. Somebody correct me if this has changed recently....I don't study the rule changes from year to year like I should.
