Popular Post JerryB
Owen and I played the front nine at River Heights today. Started out...interesting. Hit a great drive, then hooked my wedge left where it banked off a tree and rolled to just right of the green! Chip and a putt for par, followed by two more pars. Even through three is a new best. Now we caught up to traffic in front of us, causing us to wait a bunch and lose our rhythm. On four I chunked my tee shot then pulled the wedge to the left a bit on my way to a double. Then things suddenly went south with my driver. I sliced one into the river, then my next two driver tee shots were snap hooks. On nine I pulled the drive left again only to be bailed out by a tree again on my way to a par save. All told I managed to salvage a really solid (+9) 45. After the fact it looks great, but in the moment it was a frustrating round. Owen finished a couple strokes behind me, but he also wasn't happy about his performance at the time. Looking back, though, I'm actually really happy. Tons of positives to take away! Blaine Dye
Well today at Tuesday night scramble I guess it was backwards day normally I’m solid off the tee and my chipping is good but my approach game is terrible along with my putting but not today put a shot from 165 with my 7 iron to within 5 feet and made two roughly 8-10 foot putts but was duffing chips and was terrible off the tee was shooting solid though -2 through 8 going to 9 me and my partner both put it in the water ( again tee box was killing me ) and we ended up triple bogey on 9 tough way to get knocked out the money Sluggo42, Vegan_Golfer_PNW, cksurfdude and 6 others 9 Quote Ogio bag Driver: Cobra LTDX 3 wood: PING 425 max Irons 5-U : PING G710s 52 bent to 51 vokey 54: vokey 58 degree: Callaway jaws putter: Wilson harmonized v2 / testing Odessy AI- ONE Double Wide
Popular Post GolfSpy_KFT
Another maddeningly inconsistent night at league tonight. Was slicing my driver badly which I typically don’t do, but managed to still absolutely crush a drive. Approaches were inconsistent, but then hit a beautiful PW from 125 out in the final hole and missed the birdie putt by inches (my partner made it). Overall, we both didn’t execute well and were +4. I know I can hit it well, but I NEED to get on the range and practice. Broken record but school out next week can’t come soon enough so my twice a week range work on lunch Monday and Wednesday can kick in. 2 hours ago, JerryB said: Owen and I played the front nine at River Heights today. Popular Post MaxEntropy
I. CHOKED. Now that I've given away the result.... It was a very good night in league last night - everything was working pretty well and I even had a little luck on my side. I did hit a couple irons a little thin that resulted in being long, but thankfully they were straight and not in any trouble. You ever hit a drive that was so bad it ended up being "good"? That happened too. Two birdies (nearly chipped in for eagle on one of them), three bogies, three pars as I stepped to the 9th tee (that's +1 for those not counting). The 9th hole on our league course isn't particularly hard. It's a par 3 that can play anywhere from 140 to 180 depending on tee and pin. Last night they had the tees back, middle pin, and it was dead into the wind. Arccos said it was playing around 185 (up to 190 with gusts). That is an awkward distance for me that I have needed to address for a couple years so doubt started to creep in. I have had some success at that distance gripping down a couple inches on my 4H and making a smooth swing, so that was my choice. As I was standing over the ball, a terrible thought crept in: "DON'T DO ANYTHING STUPID". So what happens? I tried to guide the ball rather than hitting it. Here is a satellite view of the hole: Normally, I don't even give the ponds any thought as they are short enough and left enough to not be a concern to me (especially with my typical left-to-right ball flight), but a less-than-committed swing with contact high on the face and out towards the toe brought them into play. The trees obscured our view, but to me it looked like it was on line with the cart path intersection near the upper left of the pond on the right (or maybe the rocks surrounding that pond?). We saw no splash, but we also never found the ball. We assumed it ended up in a pond, but I suppose hitting the rocks could have resulted in a god-only-knows-where-it-went bounce. I walked off with a double. In hindsight, I should have gone with a 6i requiring a full, aggressive swing and accepted being either a little short or perhaps creeping on to the front, taking anything worse than bogey almost entirely out of the equation, but I'm apparently not smart enough to do something like that. I was texting with @DiscipleofPenick after and explained what happened. His response? "Were you thinking about it?" Hell yes I was thinking about it and I choked.... I am still very happy with a +3, 38 (net -3). I was also leading my match at the time, although not by a lot. The guy I was playing is quite a bit older than me and hits the ball dead straight, just short. I was giving him 5 strokes. My little blow-up (and his up and down for par) meant we tied on strokes and tied on holes. Popular Post CB Lobo 4 Life
I have been so excited to post in this thread! All night I was looking forward to posting my 18-hole score from yesterday and updating you all. I hope that in my excitement I don't fumble all over myself. I probably had one of the best rounds in ten years yesterday as I shot a 74 out with my dad and brother. They did not want to keep score and I really wanted to. Additionally, I was testing out two golf balls, the Maxfli Tour X compared to the Callaway ChromeSoft X LS. Needless to say, there was a clear winner between the two, and it may surprise those who have yet to play a Maxfli. I am not sure for certain what it was that made the Maxfli play so much better in the first 9 holes. I am going to lean a little towards my mind drifting into falling in love with the Maxfli and pre-maturely dumping the Chromesoft. Whatever the real reasons are (will post in an unofficial review) I can not perfectly say at present but this Maxfli Tour X is working its way into full custody in my bag. Outside of the ball testing, I was doing my round felt incredible. Off the Tee, Approach shots, And putting felt like I was a new man! For some reason, these were all working out phenomenally. I will have to look at my data but I don't think I 3-putted once, and the majority of my tee shots were either on the fairway or just off of it ( I did have one errant driver shot on hole 3 that went OB but that was it). I was perfectly and completely on cloud 9. Leaving the course felt like a sin. I wanted so desperately to play more, but such is life when all good things come to an end. However, I will not forget some of the changes I made to my swing that I do believe lead to my better score. PS: Snowflake has 27 holes and the 18 that I played is what they call the "Old 18." It is par 73 and in the scorecards below you will see how I modified the card to show all 9 holes. Jim Shaw
Good morning spy's... Dipping into my 1st. cup of coffee, looking out at the tip of the Olympic mountains to the south of me and seeing that the snow is melting quite quickly, it has been warmer and windy for the past week in Southern Vancouver Island, not bad for golf, not enough rain for the area though so that has some folks around here a little concerned. The superintendent at our golf course was nice enough to spend an hour and half with me this past monday and go over his plans and his challenges going forward. I guess my main takeaway from the conversation is that this superintendent is very very informed and dialled in on keeping a 30 year old golf course in the best shape he can with the resources he has accesss to. Anyway if any of you have the interest a chat with any superintendent or grounds crew employee may be fun. cksurfdude, GolfSpy_KFT, Kenny B and 4 others 7 Quote committed to performance excellence
Sluggo42
I had a great round going until the 15th, when one of my buddies showed me a wrist turn I should think about on the backswing- so I promptly took a double on 15 and 17 with duck hooks off the tee… fortunately, I birdied 16 and 18 to save a 78. Sooo, one would think “what a jerk” about a mid-round brain teaser, but I went down to the range after the round, and played with the concept. So I basically found that I just needed to really open the face on my set-up, and then started crushing long majestic draws- nice Rickp, Merlin1313, MaxEntropy and 7 others 8 2 Quote TSr2 on tensi blue stiff Speedzone 3-wood on Tensi blue S Epic Max 5 and 7 woods on HZRDUS Reg flex Paradym 9 wood on HZRDUS reg flex P770 / P790 combo set on Ventus R-6 shafts 6-AW T22 Denim Copper 54°, 58° on Kinetic X Trajectory ER3 or, E.A.S. #4 (“Fang” or “Adele”) ProV1x, or, Maxfli Tour X .Org 14 cart bag Adidas Tour 360 , or Sketcher shoes

Popular Post JerryB
Owen and I played the front nine at River Heights again today. Another weird one. All aspects of my game are shifting again. Putting has now become my strength and my wedge game, particularly really close to the green, has come back. My irons are still pretty iffy although on short par 3's I'm still a disaster. On the other side of the coin are suddenly my longer clubs; they've fallen apart. Hybrids, woods, driver...they're weak hooks that fall out of the sky. Owen was playing really well. Everything was clicking for him other than a mini blowup on the par five 6th where he three-putted for par. Popular Post Merlin1313
So-we had our latest Faculty/Staff tournament last week at the course that I showed pics of earlier this week. We missed 1 Fairway(F) and 2 GIR (G). We played really well except for the 10th- our lone Bogey. I mentioned that they were "generous" with the "Old Fart" tees (which I now get to play). The "D"s in the G rows are where I actually drove the greens. We played well with a few exceptions, our putting(P) was a little bit off but we gave ourselves a lot of good looks. Shoulda had a few eagles, but obviously we didn't get any. The winning score in our flight was a 56. Guess we'll have to work on that. Our next one is coming up in June at my "home" course. JerryB
Owen and I hit the front nine at River Heights again today. Looks like they're nearly done with the irrigation work they've been doing so hopefully we can start alternating nines soon. Rained yesterday so it was both hot and muggy today. Another day that had to be put into perspective. Wasn't thrilled with the way I played but last year I would have been ecstatic. The good: Putting- no three putts! Lob wedge- this club has really come back around. Hitting it with confidence and getting it closer and closer to the pin. The bad: I'm chunking way too many shots. My longer clubs, which were a strength recently, are abysmal. The weird: I don't know what's going on with my driver. Hooking it again. If I play it as such I can pretend its a draw but something is up. Also, Owen tells me I'm scooping most of my clubs now. I'm still not totally sure what it means much less what to do about it. Overall- three doubles, five bogeys and a par to close out the round. Shot a (+11) 47. Owen played great after an iffy start. CSiders12
I finally played a good round of golf!! Tonight at my league, I had two birdies, two bogeys, and five pars for an even round 36. ACalling
Played until the sun went down yesterday and was able to get 12 holes in with a 3 person walking group (push carts of course). Had a decent scoring round until #7, a par 3 with the carry almost all over water. Clubbed up and tried to take an easy swing and...splash, sometimes its too easy to try to take the "easy" swing and it ends up being a "lazy" one. +5 for the front 9 on this course is a pretty okay round, a little better considering the late double. But I am glad its summer and we were able to keep going. Ended the day on a great birdie, a 1-putt downhill slider. Had some pretty bad shots, including that one into the water, and another topped drive that didnt reach the fairway, but still able to put a good score down. Overall I would say i was striking it well, I like to think when I am in a good zone is when I can pull any club out and get a good hit. For example, on a tight par 4 with water left, 6th hole, take the 3UI out for the first time all day and stripe it down the middle. Same for the tee shot on 10, taking the 3 wood out for the first time all day. Missing both greens on the par 3s is hopefully the easy way to improve next time. Popular Post StrokerAce
Odd round for me in league play last night but we ended up getting the win 1 up ... 3 bogey / 1 birdie / 3 par / 2 doubles The doubles were just bonehead mistakes that could have been par or bogey... 1 I short sided myself in thick rough and tried to get too cute with the ball and another I was pinned near a rock wall and had to chip backwards on a par3. Charles Lechair
I got out and played 9 while the lady walked with me. Shot a 42. Good progress - didn't feel like i had my best stuff, but i also didn't hit any truly terrible shots. That's the name of the game Also always a nice reminder when she comes and walks with me that there's really no reason to get mad on the golf course. Not that I'm the cursing at himself, throwing clubs, bringing the whole group down with you kind of guy, but i do get frustrated sometimes like we all probably do. I obviously want to improve and play the best golf that i can, but at the end of the day it's important to remind myself that i'm out there to spend time with people i care about, enjoy the outdoors, and enjoy the game. Hit em straight this weekend guys and gals! Popular Post Sluggo42
Played with the “new swing” my buddy showed me yesterday. While it’s still a far cry from being “there”, it hit some reallllly nice shots today. Hard to get used to hitting a nice draw, as I’m having a tough time aiming out to the right. I had a few yanks with the driver, but then hit some nice recovery shots. Really chunked one drive, but then hit the best 5-wood ever into the green to save par. Chunked another on a par 5, but then hit a smoked 7-wood to save par again. then had 3 birdies, and -2 (on the back 9) going into 18. Then promptly topped my drive into the drink for a solid double, for a final total of 75, instead of the 73 I should have scored. almost eagled the #1 hdcp hole after a crushed drive and a very toasty 9-iron… had to post in shot of the day as well… it deserved 2 posts! Popular Post gavinski91
Played some 9-hole matchplay against my brothers last night. Great conditions at North Bellingham, and teeing off at 6:53 makes for some beautiful twilight golf. They played best ball and I gave them 2 strokes. Hit my longest shot of the day with a 276-yard 3 wood off the first tee, made par to take the lead, and then held the lead from then on. Was struggling immensely with chipping though due to the very thick rough on the course - it was fine when I was going with the grain, but couldn't get through it going against the grain. I was 2 up on the par-3 8th tee, and my one brother (who was last off the tee) goes and sticks one to 8 feet. So on to the par-5 9th tee 1-up, and there I managed to outdrive him by 30 yards. At which point he goes driver off the deck to an excellent position, and my second shot misses way left, and before I realize it the match ends in a tie. Still, any round out with my brothers is a good one! Popular Post GolfSpy_SHARK
Top to bottom one of my best rounds. Mis-cues here and there but not part of my game was “bad”. 77 (+5) with 2 birdies 9 pats and 7 bogeys. Again had some real good looks for more birds but was burning edges which is fine, I gave the ball a chance on all putts which is a big positive takeaway. Standout was wedge play, no miscues all round and was dialed in yet again. Had a few of these beauties from 100 and in: I also played the driving iron off the tee more often today outside of par 5’s. played with some older gents that were good people. I was walking and 2 were playing red tees the other white so I would walk up and typically be well ahead of them after tee shots so I let them know if it was ok I would just continue to walk and I am fine just keeping an eye out behind me, they were good with that (they played the ball really down the middle all day so nothing was ever even close to me) but one of them always said “Mark, stay flexible” before he swung which I absolutely thought was a riot. beautiful 90 degree New England day injectedcutty, ZackS, sirchunksalot and 11 others 13 1 Quote Check out my reviews: G710 Irons Official Review I MC Shaft & V Series Putter Official Review 2022 Forged Tec's Official Review I Nitron Push Cart Official Review WITB: Weapons of grass destruction (link to WITB) Traverse is filled with all this shiny metal and tracked by RadSpeed 8* - MotoreX F1 6X SIM 3W - Project X HZRDUS Green U505 Driving Iron 17* - Project X HZRDUS Black SpeedZone 4H - Project X HZRDUS Black 2022 King Forged Tec's 4-PW - KBS $ Tape 130 48 (SM8), 52 & 60 (SM7) - Nippon Modus 125 S ER2VI PROV1X #19 Are you a veteran? Popular Post MaxEntropy
On 5/31/2023 at 9:31 AM, MaxEntropy said: I. I. DID. NOT. CHOKE. Yes, I'm quoting my post from Tuesday. I played a new-to-me course this afternoon and shot a 40/37 = 77 (+6). Not that it really matters, they had everyone going off the back today, so the front was actually the better 9. MILESTONE ALERT - first time I've broken 80 ( @GolfSpy_APH, can I get that Broke 80 badge please?). I've had a few 80's and 81's. I putted out of my mind on the second 9. I had 12 putts even with a 3-putt on the last hole. A chip in par helped and five 8-10 footers made for pars. I also made ~25 footer for birdie. Driver was mostly steady all day long. A couple bad swings but the holes I did it on were not terribly penal to do that. Our area is in dire need of some rain and many of the mid-tier munis are really dry - mid-August bounces and rolls. It is really good for the ego, though, especially when I am hitting driver well. I had 4 drives that were in the 284 - 296 range. Most importantly, the last hole was great. I stood there knowing I could have a bit of a blow-up and still break 80, but there were still some nerves - my big miss is right and there was OB right. Focused on positive thoughts and piped it 285 up the hill to the right center of the fairway. Tale of the tape, according to Arccos.
