New Mizuno Wedges

Recommended Posts

Wow check these babies out!  Blue wedges, and why not Bubba is Ping's pink man.  The caption beneath these photos said they were from Charles Howell III 's bag but there is a @Luke Donald on the side of the bag so I'm wondering if they were taken in Luke's bag.  They are a fine looking piece of kit and if they work I'd have no hesitation in bagging them at all.

Edit: I'm so switched on! They have CH3 stamped on them which pretty much spells Charles Howell dick.

I dont love the blue.  I can certainly see how it would match with the 850 woods very well but to me, Mizuno says, "classic" and theres nothing classic about those wedges.

They kind of remind me of the Callaway Jaws wedges too.  All in all, Im not a huge fan.  Id like to see them just get back to making a classic teardrop blade wedge with nothing fancy on the back of the club and a minimal amount of branding stamped onto it.

First impressions? Not exactly classic Mizuno and a style that even die-hard fans will find hard to swallow.

Can't really see any advantage to a blue scheme, but then again I can't see any advantage to a jewel encrusted and engraved Edel either.

They do match the electric blue Mizuno JPX 850 woods.

Thankfully Nike, Cobra and TM didn't feel the need to follow suit with their woods.

Agree.  In my irons and wedges, I want either chrome, black, oilcan or matte finish.  Im not at all a fan of these wedges and will not be buying one.  Since the T-11 and R-12, I havent been a huge fan of Mizuno's wedges.  I might be going back to Vokeys, honestly because I just want a nice, classic, teardrop wedge.

It looks like a hybrid of the R-12's and Callaways Jaws with a blue finish- WHICH I LOVE!

But then again- the MP T5's I have are still only a month or two old

And both Vokey and now Mizzy copied another company with this finish.  And it looks just as cheap on those two as it did on Feel Golf's wedges then the Wilsons that followed.

Vokey came out with an indigo finish as a limited run couple seasons ago- had a buddy who was all geeked out by em, K grinds I believe, joke was on him though as the finish held up like crap. Hope these are different!

Was it like the oilcan finish they used to use that was designed to rust over time?  I havent owned a Vokey wedge for almost 10 years and I was kind of bummed when I learned they dont make it anymore.  Now, they have a black finish that is unplated, which is supposed to rust over time like the oilcan did.

Before my SCORs I had two Cleveland RTX wedges with the black finish. The finish wore off within a few weeks. Won't be making that mistake again.

At the end of the day I don't care what they look like so much as how they perform.  Blue happens to be my favourite colour, not that I am particularly enamoured by these babies but by the same token I don't hate them either.  I only own one wedge that I can say I love using at the moment and am in search of a set of wedges.  From what you guys have been saying about the Scor wedges I am tempted to buy one and try it and maybe go from there.  It is a big leap however to like one and buy two on spec especially when they are an international order because we don't have them here in Aus.  At least the Mizunos I can try before I outlay any cash.

I remember those.  They were in the different colors, so that supposedly it was easier to tell which wedge was which.

I love the blue wedges that are coming out. These and the Wilson wedges are just so cool. Why are they all just turning to blue now this should have been a thing for a long time.

The blue wears away to the white satin. I've seen some pics of them worn and I like the look. Unfortunately, I can't get the blue wedges in LH.

I did just pull the trigger on the white satin S5 wedges in 50, 54, 58. Also grabbed an MP54 PW to replace my 45° SCOR. They'll all have the Nippon NS Pro 1150 shafts in them which I feel good about.

I love the SCORs but they're just worn down.

All I can say is, after my wedge fitting where I ended up with completely different wedges than I though I would, I really, REALLY, like them no matter what color they come in!

They're chromed, but I'm wearing it off and I don't care.

The ultimate scoring club is probably the putter, but my wedges are working to make my putts shorter.

I've never played Ping before, but their Groove wedges are impressing me!

I loved the SCORs with a full swing, but for all around versatility, the Groove's are working for me.  (AND I NEED THAT)!

I had trouble on partial shots with the SCORs, and the Ping's seem more natural to me.  (JUST ME, your mileage may vary).

I've had one Mizuno wedge, and I loved it, it just didn't fit with anything else I had at the time.  It played high and straight, I just couldn't consistently control the distance when it was the only Mizuno in the bag.

I just recently purchase two and I love the look!  I will say there is a issue with the sole fading pretty fast.  I personally wish they would of made the whole thing matte vs. the sole and middle.  I still love the look but better yet they feel Mizuno good!

For me the finish does not really matter as long as it is not too shiney and I get glare off of it. Besides any 56* in my bag is going to get beat to hell and back in a few months because that is my workhorse wedge. Down here between the salt and sand it really beats one up
