Whenever they introduce balls with built in GPS/Bluetooth. Hopefully never, but with all the technology out there, I can see companies experimenting.

I don't know wouldn't that speed up play? I would be in favor of anything that would do that. After a few weeks away from my club and rounds of nearly four and a half hours it was refreshing to get back to a far more reasonable three yesterday.

Yeah you're probably right, that would help tremendously. I never considered that since I never have that problem around here, due to it being a small town.

Believe it or not I have a friend who has been talking about that type of technology in the ball for years

These will be out in November according to their website. Sounds interesting.

Interesting. Won't that affect the playability of the ball? I can't imagine that the sensor inside wouldn't add weight or alter the spin characteristics of the ball.

Yeah I don't know. But I'm sure the forum will provide an in depth review if/when it hits the shelves. Really this could be a game changer for recreational golfers.

I tried the lighted balls once (for a night time scramble). They sucked... like hitting rocks!

... It did make them easier to find in the woods during the night golfing, lol. Yep, I was in the woods.

Something of that sort was attempted already, and it failed miserably. Little microchip inside the ball and you have a handheld tracker to help you find your ball.

Website is completely inactive at this point.

Doesn't top golf use something like this?

Yep, sure does. When you put the ball on the tee, the microchip in the ball registers for your stall I believe. When you hit it, a reader in the hole reads the chip I'd and reports in back to your terminal.

Ha! I've commented here and there and said for years it's just a matter of time before the ball has a "chip" embedded in it. I can see perhaps that with each shot you'll get all sorts of data sent to your phone or other recording device. Of course, distance - carry and roll, ball flight and shape, spin, smash, etc., etc. Perhaps the ball will somehow interface with your club? Later at home you plug into your computer and analyze the data and view each shot overlaid on the course you played. In 3D! Who knows; but it will happen eventually. Can you imagine?

Like us old guys say (used to)... this is space-age stuff. LOL

Apple should buy Ping. They could have the iBlade and the iBall to go with the iPutter, and iIrons. I like it. iWedge too. Being an Apple fan I wouldn't mind.

And you could track it all on the iGolf app on your iPhone or iPad!

Man I really would like to see all that.

iDriver, iWoods, and iBryds. Yes! I want 75% of all marketing money made.

iBag and iShoes. Maybe even an iGlove.

I'll split it with you.

They did it for hockey pucks back in the day. I assume it's not too far off from golf balls. Just not sure how they'd get around losing core space to chips and electronics.

I remember reading an article last year sometime about how the game could change in the future. The only part that even sounded a tiny bit realistic was adding GPS chips to the balls, so you'd know exactly where it is when you miss the fairway.

I see that being a huge challenge to create a ball that'll perform the same with a chip inside, affordably. The good balls are already plenty expensive as it is.

In my opinion, this is the key. Having worked in a polymer development industry, getting the materials right to account for an imbedded device should not be much of an issue.
