Ouch! My shoulder!

Recommended Posts

For my job I sometimes have to wear a dry suit, and it's not the easiest thing to get in to. Sometime over the last few days I must have went a little far with my right shoulder! Supposed to play a tournament this weekend, had to drop out! Hopefully I'll be at least 80% next weekend for the annual Fathers Day Scramble!!

Took a few swings and was met with a wonderful little twinge in my shoulder. Not good, last time this happened I shattered a guys window a few weeks later because my swing got all jacked up. Dang golf season just started and I'm out for this nicest weekend of the year!

Any tips for a speedy recovery? Surgery is probably in the future, like this winter while I'm dreaming of golf.

Rest, ice, stretching, and exercises. Right now I am dealing with shoulder pain. Either shoulder bursitis or impinged shoulder. Lots pain when playing golf. Trying to find a new golf swing that doesn't cause pain in shoulder, hip and back. Herculean battle to find a new golf swing that will not cause pain. The rest portion is most difficult because I am used to trying to work through pain and thinking hard work will solve the problem.

Mine flares up every so often. This one is the worst that I can remember. I was working on the one plane thing a while back to attempt to take some stress off my beat up body. But I wasn't very consistent and it actually was more painful. It's been 2 years since the last episode. Hope it goes back where it came from soon!

I highly recommend the Crossover Symmetry program. I have five sets of these installed in my gym and it's part of my athletes everyday warm up. The program prepares shoulders for exercise, strengthens the shoulder girdle and I've seen it work wonders on injured shoulders that would otherwise need surgery.

Make an appointment with a physiotherapist.  They can help you out as well as possibly prepare you for fathers day... or let you know golf is out of the question.

  • 3 weeks later...

glad to hear it's pretty much back to norma! I'm a physical therapist, so feel free to DM me if you have any other questions.

If it's an problem that comes in goes, it's probably a combo of your shoulder alignment and posture. Many shoulder and neck problems ( or shneck issues) are due to a tight chest, rounded shoulders, and weak mid back muscles leading to non ideal posture. Stretch out your chest in a doorway and Work on strengthening your mid back between your shoulder blades and just below them, but NOT your shrug muscles. Good luck
