Ping Ball Fitting

Well they say the best form of flattery is imitation. PING launched a ball recommendation engine today with 40 brands in there they have tested much like MSG, and you will need to pay $40 to get those results. Its called Ballnamic (not what I would have picked).

Did a quick run through, not paying for the results. It starts with you picking your ball, talking about the performance you have and want with your driver, 7 iron, and wedges. Also for thrifty consumers out there you can say you want to consider price. One issue though I don't see the Titleist Left Dash ProV1x on the list. I don't think MSG had a recommender in mind for the ball data but still interesting and would love to know if some one decides to pay for the results.

Forty dollars?! Nope.

That was my first thought, I feel like True Golf Fit at $9 is around the sweet spot, for a one time recommendation so its not clear if that is a one time fee to pay or you pay it for each time you go through it.

$40 for a Program that i have to input my perceived data! Its not like we are utilizing time on a Quad or trackman....

Could you not give a recommendation to put anyone in some form of Titleist ball (AVX, ProV1, or ProV1x) and not be wrong? UNLESS a criteria is how much you wanna pay for a dozen balls... 🤣

Is it because they are in Arizona along with that other over priced brand that starts with a P and ends with a G?…

They definitely changed their demographic of players in 2 equipment cycles… that is for sure.

Does Titleist have a ball fitting? Yes, free. And they send you balls.  Do they have expensive clubs, yes, but they also have normal priced clubs THAT ARE THE MOST PLAYED ON TOUR….

I actually tried it yesterday, figured it costs less than a dozen golf balls so it'd be interesting to see what it came up with.  I was quite surprised by the results, my usual gamer, prov1x came in very poorly for me. So my results were  Srixon Z star XV at 93.8%, TaylorMade TP5X  93.7% and Bridgestone Tour BX 90.9% and  at the bottom prov1x at 82.9%.  The surprise is the Tour BX.  I think a big difference is performance into the wind.  Here in the Tampa Bay area we mostly are playing in a decent breeze and the prov1x has been ballooning some, but hadn't really thought about it.   So I'm going to give the Tour BX a try.  On golfwrx in the ball section discussing the  MGS golf ball test a lot of guys are shocked by how good the Tour BX is playing even for the slower swing guys, cause I'm sure not over 100 with driver.  So I'll report back after a couple of rounds and see if there's any noticeable difference in switching balls.

Glad someone was willing to take the plunge and that was one of the more interesting findings was how well the higher compressions golf balls do with slow swing speed players as well, to help generate that spin they might not get from the raw swing speed. Hope the ball works for you.

If you put your email in, it emails you your top 5 results with amazon links to all of them. The affiliate link is pretty standard practice when it's basically, "I don't care what you buy, but if you buy from one of these links, I get a referral bonus." I used to have Amazon affiliate links on a book blog I wrote, so I guess this didn't strike me in the same way as you, but I can def understand if that feels a little shady vs paying Ping $40 up-front for the results.

Silly for anyone to get ball fitted and pay for it. Virtually all of the proline balls are identical in performance. Virtually all of the harder cover, spin less balls are identical. Every manufacturer will tell you how the balls they make will perform.. Pick one and try it. Don't like it the try another. 100% of the people that will pay for the ball fitting will change to another ball at a later date. Probably the people that will pay that money for a ball fitting are the golfers that would be the quickest to change to another ball. Spend the 40$ on several sleeves of different balls and play with them. That is the only way to determine which ball you prefer.

Yes and no, imo - I'd venture a guess that the set of golf balls this free selector can choose from are only those which the site (which also displays a bunch of ads) has an Amazon affiliate marketing relationship with.

No reason not to use a free tool .. and no reason for someone who developed a free tool not to try to make a few $$ .. but what that set of golf balls is, is not disclosed up-front nor is how they'll use your email.

Anyway, I suppose it could still be helpful in finding a set of options to test out for yourself.

Maybe I am missing something, but I don't understand what Ping's objective is? If anyone is willing to send me $40, I will test any ball for you and send you a free sleeve.

I feel like it is along the lines of those phone calls that @MaxEntropy and @Kenny B were talking about.

If you don’t know how you deliver the club to the ball… it is 100% useless, a scam… trying to catch people off guard… I’m sure they have made a several thousand dollars on it already.
