Want to make your own review on a product and follow our testing template? This is a generic template to follow, however uses the same star rating system that any of the "official reviews" will have for this season and moving forward. (half stars are okay as well). The generic template gives you the opportunity to be a little more creative while following the same general template we will use for any and all official tests.
Here it is: Member Review Testing Template

Please please use the search function before creating a new thread as many of these products/reviews can be posted into existing threads. We can add in a front end message like this one to the top of the thread linking your review to make it more visible on request as well. This helps us keep the forum cleaner and without too many repeating threads.

... Haha there is a big difference between frugal and outright cheap. 🤑  My 67yr old playing pard had cheap knockoffs in his bag with the exception of an Aero driver a friend gave him that didn't fit his swing. He loves golf and plays 3 times a week with me and I kept trying to get him to a store to look at clubs and maybe hit a few but he just wasn't interested. So I booked him a free Callaway demo day fitting and made him go. Long story short he bought a driver, 5 wood 3/4 hybrids and 5-gw irons. He couldn't believe how much better he hit them during his fitting and just decided to buy them all instead of getting a tutorial from me about all the clubs available and having to go to more free demo's from TM, Titleist and others LOL. He is frugal but not cheap and he is very happy with his clubs and has probably dropped 5 strokes off his scores.

Great point on the comparison between the 2.

I have a couple years until I am considered a senior by age... but my swing puts me squarely in the category of Honorary Member! 😜

That said... I was fortunately selected for the Nippon Modus3 Tour 115 shafts (and this was before I became a mod... so all you stop your eye rolling!!  haha).  Even though the word "tour" appears in the model name... there was an option for a slow swinger like myself... and I chose that one 🙂.

I also want to point out that before I accepted the testing opportunity... the mod team clearly outlined what the product was, what options were available, what my responsibilities were in the testing process, and what the expectations were for the testing and writeup process.  I had the opportunity to decide if this was a good fit for me... or if I should allow another member to have this opportunity and wait for something more fitting to my game to be offered.

I want to applaud all the prospective testers that take that particular decision making process to heart.  Since becoming a mod, I have witness almost as many members throw the equipment test opportunity back into the water for another member to catch... because they wanted to ensure the test could be the best it could be... and not just some free equipment.

I have said it before and I'll say it again.... MGS has the BEST GOLF FORUM MEMBERS ON THE WEB!

I had done this most recently with the ProV white box testing. It pained me to do so, but it was the end of the season here in WI and I knew I wouldn’t be able to provide a quality product review. I think that’s an overlooked part of it. While it’s super enticing to try and jump at every opportunity because it seems like odds are low with the number of applicants for testing, if you’re active on the forum and contribute quality in posts, I genuinely feel like you’ll get an opportunity.

I think there are two types of golfers; Those who are into the details, and those who are not.  I don't think being a junior, senior, or anywhere in-between has an impact on that.  I was in a league with a large group of senior golfers, some of whom couldn't tell you if their shaft was graphite or steel, let alone the flex or bend profile.  Long way of saying I'm not sure age is the appropriate way to categorize wether a golfer is educated or not, regardless of how long they may have been playing the game.

... When the Aldila VP of Engineering first worked with PGA Tour guys, he was a little shocked that some had absolutely no idea what tech they were playing. They don't want to know or just don't care. Hand them stuff and thy hit it and like it or they don't. Then a few were very knowledgable and were hands on in every aspect f demoing new shafts, checking the LM after every swing. And these guys play golf for their living! Funny but David Toms was looking to re-shaft all his woods and driver but said he didn't care what the numbers said or how much h better he hit a shaft, he wasn't replacing the Bi Matrix shaft in his 5 wood because he won the 2001 PGA with a HIO with it. 🤪

... I would say much more often than not, the guys I play with and am paired up with have absolutely no clue at all what shaft is in any of their clubs. It is quite common for me to ask and them say "Ummm, stiff flex (or regular flex) but not sure what shaft" and then find not only do they not know anything about the shaft but it is an R or S Flex. One pretty strong hitter with an aggressive transition was playing an A flex in his driver and sprayed it left and right more than someone with his swing should. He was shocked when I told him it was a senior flex and let him hit my Tensei AV stiff flex and he couldn't believe how much better it felt. A lot more like him out there. I think maybe 5% of those I get paired up with know anything about their shafts.

I am a recently returned golfer and working to get more active on the posts and I would love to test since it has been so helpful to me.  I also live in AZ so I can play year round. I am sure it is a fair amount of work but I genuinely appreciate others take on what they have and what their experiences are because I want to make the best decision for me.  I basically gave up the game for over 10 years because of a lack of time from family and work commitments as well as the cost.  I am now at the point where I have a little more time so I can play but the cost is still an issue. So when I buy a club I need to do all I can to make sure I get one that is good for me because I can't afford to scrap it and buy another.

I recently purchased 'new' irons from Sub70 but they weren't even new, they were barely used clubs and I bought them because they were a great price. Prior to the purchase I had read a lot of good reviews about Sub70 and I tried their demo program and loved them.  Since then I have added a utility iron and gap wedge that were new as the set only came with 5 - PW and another lightly used 4W and they are all awesome.

I am now looking at a Sand and Lob wedge since the ones I am playing I purchased used and I would like some new ones now that the rest of my clubs are so new.  I am looking at Sub70 since things have been so positive but also looking at the last years wedges with so many new ones coming out. These forums and reviews have been great to help me learn about bounce and how that relates to the conditions I play in as well as others experience with their wedges. I can also look at others signatures to see what they play and that has proved helpful.

Thank you everyone that has done testing for the valuable insight you have provided to help me in my decisions and I hope I may be lucky enough to be selected to help test and help others.

I am right there with you, I want to see more women get involved and be represented. I want my wife to come play more and I am trying to get my daughters involved in golf.  It is such a great game and I don't know why we still have such a gender gap.

That was me about 9 months ago. I just knew I needed stiff shafts because of my swing speed but I had no idea what a difference a shaft could make until I was fitted for my driver.  When I was presented with a few different ones and tried them I was blown away.  I saw shot shapes I had never seen before. I hit the ball low so it has always been 260 of a dart shaped carry and 20 to 30 yards of roll. Great for hitting into the wind but not so great when needing to carry anything.  Now that I have a Project X Evenflow Riptide 50, I can cut the corner and fly the trees of a dogleg on a par 4 at my home course and end up just short of the green, I never would have been able to do that before because the ball flew too low.  I am officially on the bandwagon of making sure you match your swing to the right shafts and then think about the club.  If you have the wrong shaft you may hate the club and it isn't the clubs fault.

Part of the solution is recognizing you have a problem Scuba 😉  haha.  Looking forward to hearing about your learning process though forum posts 🙂  Sounds like you are well on your way!!!

If you have the wrong shaft you may hate the club and it isn't the clubs fault.

great live example.... well done, you enjoy your game a bit more, have more fun and only because of technology, would you have "fallen" into the perfect fit for you? maybe, but now you have the information to build one, way to go....

That was back when you got fit into the choice of DG S300 or DG S300... and liked it. 😉

... And because of that the Tommy Armour 845's with a Tour Step shaft that was the same profile as DG300 but lighter and one of the reasons those irons were so popular!

a reply to Golfspy_BOS, in my competitive world "senior" competition starts at age 55 so companies could target 55-65, 65-75, 75-85 year olds or whatever they want, no different that companies targeting scratch to 7, 8-12, 13-20 whatever, no difference in my opinion, the difference is we have more time, time seems to be the buzz word at this time, "no one has 5 hours to play golf then 2 hours to finish your round in the clubhouse" I get it, raising a family I might have played 20 times a year, now I play 20 times a month. So market specific for seniors, treat us as educated, spend more time on the "engine" of the clubs (the shaft) dont' make our choices too complicated, ie "if you swing at this speed this is the weight of shaft you need, if you hit the ball "antler high" this is the kick point you need, if you "launch" it this is the flex point you need etc. etc. If you open and close your putter this style will work best for you, if you go straight through and straight back, this is the style that you need, stuff like that"

Electric push carts are a must, they allow us to walk and enjoy our round with less stress... pound us with information on those, trips, we all have a bucket list, pound us with that... that's all I can think about right now, i need another cup of coffee... hope this helps....

In my competitive golf world, “senior” generally begins at age 60 (age 62 in the case of 9-hole casual evening leagues at one course where I play). On both my winter golf tour and the statewide senior travel league in which I play, “senior” begins at 60.

... It is a complicated formula for sure. I am a 20 yr old at heart in a 70 yr old body that feels like 60 when I start the round and 80 when I get out of the car after driving home, while playing like I am 50 and scoring like I did at 40 but wishing it was 30.

Sam, I find that I usually get stronger and better as my round progresses.  Today, I started with a par, then proceeded to shoot +13 over the course of the next four holes (yes, it was EXTREMELY UGLY, with 6 penalty strokes within the next two holes). I then shot -1 for the final 13 holes, with one birdie and 12 pars, and I had four other birdie putts of 15’ or less over that 13 hole stretch.  Last week, I started both of my two-day tournament rounds with triple bogeys, and also had a 10 right before I went on an 11-hole stretch of even par golf in round #2. I haven’t had this many blowup holes in the last 4 or 5 years as I have had in my last three rounds!

Some of us don't post a lot because we will only be duplicating what others are saying. Or, we just don't think we have anything relevant to add to the discussion.

Keep in mind that many on here visit the site many times than some of us. I watch the video of YouTube and enjoy them very much, but I never comment there either. I am a golf instructor which means I visit the site because I'm looking for the latest and greatest from the MGS members, and I am able to find out some great information from everyone. I compare feedback I'm getting from my players to see how it all lines up with those here. But...note taken from the low engagement data, I, for one, will start posting more often, it definitely helps the group. Thanks for the info on how this thing works...
