I'm working from home this morning and then taking the afternoon off to continue painting the deck!

Have a good day everyone!

I would not call it a rant just posting information and your honest opinion.

I never had a handicap or played handicapped golf until I joined our league last year. We are not on the GHIN system but on a program called I Cap.

Now back when I first joined here I was a 5 cap from the back tees. A friend of mine was physically challenged (from birth) but was a computer whiz. He bought all the software and did our scores. He never wanted a dime he just loved to do it to occupy his mind. We would go by his house when our group called The Miura Mafia played close by. With his limitations he could not play golf but rode around and had fun and drank beer. Of course he never paid for a cart fee or a beer when he was with us. Sadly we lost him due to his physical defects some 6 years ago now.

IMHO the handicap system is ok IF it is used properly with some honesty and ethics involved. But then again I am a rookie on the handicap system.

We do have some "rules Nazis" in our league. One said something to me because he saw me playing one day and I did not post a score. The reason being I was playing a persimmon round which can be 5 to 7 shots more depending on where I play from. Sometimes I play our Par3s from the tips and make them Par 4s. Well I went to the league Pres., VP and handicap chairman and explained. Playing the vintage stuff I could post and run my HC up a lot then play the modern stuff in tournaments. That would be sandbagging and dishonest and they agreed. They told the old busybody to MHOB and leave it up to the members to police themselves. I think as a whole our league is ran fairly.

Agree with not posting the persimmion round and yeah folks take the handicap more serious than they should. Many treat it like a badge of honor. Golf is a mysterious game as many do not play by the rules of golf.  Cool words about your friend. When i broke my wrist (not comparing) and could not play, I still wanted the comradary of our league and rode in a cart and "harassed" the guys.

Good morning spies! Off to the mountains and the land of terrible internet today. Winterizing the trailer this week and get it closed up for storage. COLD is not something we do anymore and it is getting cold up there. Low 40s at night.

@William P Hope the new driver works for you! Mine is just a blast to use 😃. I just pounded it yesterday. Long straight with a little tailing draw or fade depending on what I need. A tailing fade on command - what a concept! Shot a one over par 74!

The other half just put her coffee cup in the dishwasher. Guess the musing period is over for this morning.

Hope everyone has a great day.

The handicap guy at the regional golf association told me that if you play in an event where persimmons or hickory shafts or some other equipment permutation is required, those aren't postable either.

Early morning for the west coast since I'm stuck in training meetings scheduled for those blasted east coasters I work with. It's almost like they don't even consider us employees. Though to be fair during one of my trips back to the main office I went to the break room to get coffee and the logistics manager looked at me and literally asked, "Do you work here?"

Why... No, of course I don't. I'm just wearing this company's shirt and walking into the break room using my ID badge to steal the coffee.

This was about 3 years into me working with this company. I wasn't quite sure what to say in response.

LOL, thanks for making me laugh this morning.

Same my old photos are just that real photos. Also, when we moved to Texas the moving company dropped our household goods container. Most everything was broken or lost. About 45 years of pictures gone. That really sucked.

Ours as well, but I don't know if I'd consider our last as unfortunate. I do miss the AF though, and wearing the uniform. I loved serving. Hell, I'm still serving, just in civilian uniform and with the National Guard.

Good Morning Spies!

Looks like a nice sunny golfing day up here. Starting tomorrow we will get some rain.  So I am going to take the afternoon off and golf.  It’s prime Fall weather so it should be an awesome day!

I will sadly miss the weekly call, but I figure this will be a great substitute…

Hope to get back to driving it straight and putting them well.  My last round was a bit of an adventure, so hopefully today will be better.

Have a great day Spies!

My dad is scheduled to have hip replacement surgery this morning, so please send good vibes for that to go smoothly. He's an avid golfer and is not happy to have surgery mid-season, but it was necessary with the pain he was dealing with.

Yes definitely 🤞🧘‍♂️

I had the left side done almost 7 years ago .. now the right side is getting jealous 😂 .. but would tell him go slow right after and do ALL the PT they give you .. and then continue with the exercises for at least a year.

Also don't rush back into golfing - let the body tell you what is comfortable and what's not!

Another recommendation for him is to see a good chiropractor and let them evaluate his standing posture - it's possible there will be a slight length difference in the legs and a heel lift on one side may be suggested.

Jim, you are far too modest.  It’s definitely an A+. Competitive golf is a whole different beast and to win is not easy. It requires a great deal of skill and mental fortitude, especially when battling through adversity.  To win twice is quite the accomplishment.  So take a bow, you’ve earned it and very well done.

aww, thanks @Cfhandyman, this tournament season has been quite the journey for certain, I found it "therapeutic" to have access to this forum to put my feelings down on paper so to speak...your words are very kind and appreciated.

On a side note, I am hearing nothing but good feedback from Saugeen and the Canadian Senior and Super Senior Men's amateur this past week. All of the competitors I have reached out to marvelled at the volunteers and the shape of the course. Congratulations to them and to Ontario golf in general, great stuff...

Oh and BC beat Ontario in the 2nd Indigenous provincial competition at Bear Mountain in Victoria a couple of weeks ago. I went up to watch the 1st competition last year and it was great to see the players and to see our game grow. My friend Patrick Kelly is instrumental in making this championship happen and I can see it growing for years to come.
