All this rain and sitting around lead to a rough start this round. Back 9 got better but I think it's more to do with the fact that it was mowed since we got all that rain last week. Most of the fairways were over ankle high. This lead to zero roll out and often a buried lie when hitting into the green. On the other hand, I lost count of how many stray balls I found in the middle of the fairway. The greens were great though! A bit more manageable speed compared to before the rain and finally soft enough to hold as long as I made a decent shot. I actually saw ball marks on the green for once!

Today was a better scoring round! Second real competitive tournament round with the Paradym irons. I trusted the distances today. Played well and putted better, but not great. Moved up the leader board and tied for third. These irons are becoming a permanent fixture in my bag!!!!

Thursdays are not a normal golf day for me, but because of tournament this weekend, I rearranged my schedule so I could go out and try some things.  Practice round tomorrow afternoon and then a flighted shootout tomorrow evening. I was not initially intending to play 18 holes or even keep score. My intent was to hit multiple shots on each hole. However, there was a guy behind me so I was thinking I would play normal and once I got space I would “practice”. However, by the time I gained some space, I was playing well enough to keep going and then wanted to get 18 done ASAP. 
 

I played great yesterday except for a few blowup holes. Last night, I took a hard look at what I did and didn’t do well. My 60° wedge was the main culprit the last few round.

Test 1 was a new Taylormade Hi Toe 58°. I bought this months ago, but was hitting the 60° well at the time. But also changed my wedge set up and swing a bit. I was very pleased with this change. The tournament greens are so fast that I needed more loft the chip with and a 60° was hard to chip with. My wedges and partials were very good. Just a couple of poor choices and I could been closer. However, I made the putts so I guess I was close enough. 
 

Test 2 was I left the 3 wood at home and lofted up the Stealth + to 12.5° and put it on a shorter driver shaft to 44”. I had the SIM2 Max at 7° on a 46” shaft. Big huge shocker! There wasn’t much difference at the range. I ended up changing the Stealth to 10.5° on the 44” shaft and will likely have the 3w instead of the other driver. 

Test 3 was some course management issues. I spare you the details, but just making sure my misses are in the right place and playing smarter. There were a number of sucker pins today, I sometimes even miss the green to give myself an easier up and down based on pin location  

The final test had to do with putting. I took my green level and was intending to measure the slopes of the greens and work on my green reading. I was going to see if using Aim Point or Instinct Putting worked better  However, there was a guy behind me on the first 5 holes and by then I had used Intinct Putting for 5 holes and had 5 putts and was -2. I had 22 putts on the day so I didn’t even think about any other method. 
 

Instinct Putting, for those that don’t know, is basically just looking at the putt, allowing your subconscious mind to read it, then getting over the ball and just lining up based on “feel”. That was working today. 
 

I’m pretty excited about this weekend. New drugs and diet have my knees functioning again. Golf swing is good. Wedge game seems to be working and the new putter is phenomenal.  I should be posting about that next week.
 

I don’t know if I will post about my 4 rounds I’m playing in the next 3 days. I may be too busy this weekend playing golf to write about golf.

Trying out some new swing thoughts/feels.  Honestly pretty happy with an 80 since most of the front 9 felt extremely uncomfortable.  Triple bogey 8 on the 2nd hole obviously hurt, but +5 for the remaining 17 holes was solid.

What a great but bad round at the same time. Drove the ball great but hit two into the water due to it being my first time playing the course. I crushed this drive but hit the blind approach to the fringe and got up and down luckily for par. I had two doubles from water balls, had to take penalty for a lost ball we couldn’t find in the rough and three three putts. Was my best round this year of ball striking but had some careless mistakes. Still felt nice getting driver going today.

Played the first round with my Garsen MAX grip.  Not a good decision to play teens that are 5x the size of my home course with a essentially a new putter.  Did meet my average of 32 putts though but had a few that were well over 60 feet.
