They register to read the forum content.   While not required,  it helps with viewing unread posts.   They could be on the forum everyday for all we know.  I have accounts and read other forums regularly but seldom post.

Has any of the previous winners posted? Like the Titleist?

I came in second on the Titleist challenge and I am an active member. So, the point of drive-by winners is not entirely accurate. Maybe we should encourage participation and winning might just get someone to visit more often. Personally, I am thankful to the Forum Administrators for putting on these events and all the other opportunities offered. If they followed the rules and won, then I say great job. I don’t care to audit their postings. As each member has their own life and responsibilities and might not have extensive time to be adding to every topic.

Yea wasn’t meaning you meant more win and done. The idea is to get them involved with these things and when it doesn’t happen (and I use involvement loosely because I was not always heavily involved and have been busy of late and am on less right now). Trust me I’m not the one that needs a lecture lol

These are indeed wise words. I read the forums frequently, but I am the type of person that doesn't post a lot. I'm not sure if there is something wrong with that, but it's just my personality. I post when the response is something important enough for me to post. I don't post every random thought that comes into my head. Even on another forum (not golf related), I had a relatively low number of posts, and unfortunately over there, low number of posts indicated a person that did not have any knowledge of the subject. That sort of mentality drives people like me away because I'm not going to waste my energy trying to prove a point to someone that sees a post number and makes a snap decision on whether that person has anything of value to contribute.

Luckily, I have not experienced that on this forum, and I hope I never do.

I wasn’t trying to lecture. Just wanted to point out that not all winners are one and done.  I just didn’t explain as elegantly as RichL85 or Golf Spy Barbajo.

We haven’t received ours yet. However, both of us Titleist winners have agreed to do an unofficial review. I picked the 18 degree fairway specifically as I already have a PXG 3 wood I love. However, I carry a 17 degree hybrid (along with a 22 and 25 degree), but wanted to have the option to pull the 17 degree and have another fairway wood. So, I will be testing the 18 degree fairway against the 17 degree hybrid. Hopefully, it will help some out there looking at a 4/5 wood vice a stronger hybrid.

I feel like I started this line of discussion based on my comment.   While I would still say I would rather see someone that is a regular contributor to the forum win I understand the contests are open to anyone and anyone has an equal chance to win.   I also recognize that some people aren't as engaged as I or many others are and there is nothing wrong with that.   My comment was along the lines of preferring a player or sporting team to win a game....as a Bears fan,  I can never pull for Green Bay.

I hope that my original remark that kind of sparked this debate hasn’t rubbed anyone the wrong way. The last thing that I want to do is come off as against newer/not as active posters to not be allowed in contests or seem like they are less deserving than someone who posts regularly. I was very new to the forum about a year ago and felt welcomed from the get go, so I always try to make sure I make others feel the same way. I definitely get that forums aren’t everyone’s thing when it comes to posting a lot of different things.

This is such a great post!  And the point you mention of someone having a low number of posts is not taken seriously is just plain ignorant if I may.  I know for a fact there is a PGA Tour player who is a regular reader of WRX and only posts occasionally, and was called out as an internet warrior when he posted something without referring to  who he was or what he does for a living.   And I'm pretty certain not 100% that Adam has told me there are a couple who are here as well.     Same with tour caddies, I have a good friend who reads both forums to keep up on the latest of equipment, just because they are around it all day and have access to some of the inside people, doesn't mean he can't learn from things he sees and reads online.   He just has to learn to filter out the junk and focus on what he considers helpful info.

I can say for sure, I certainly didn't take your comments in any negative or complaining way.  I would have been so disappointed to, it would be like seeing the guy you are giving 5 strokes to in a match continually drain 15 footer after 15 footer for net birdies to beat you in the league playoffs.  You are so close but beaten by someone that you think, where did this come from?  ....that may or may not be a hypothetical example.

I understand the hard feelings of the active members, but I am not a “drive by contest junkie”. I read the forums and MGS in general frequently. I’ve never been much of a message board poster. I’ve never felt like the world needed to know my thoughts on really any subject, much less golf, which I’m addicted to.

The forum style of the internet is definitely not for everyone. Some like to just read content and others enjoy actively posting, no hard feelings from me on that. Just the sheer disappointment of being so close to victory!
