Yeah looks like round one was false hope round

... Pretty interesting that very round so far has produced progressively higher scores. I hope that continues today as I enjoy seeing the best players in the world navigating the toughest but fair conditions on the last day of a Major. Watching a great player hit a "perfect" shot that is 30 feet from the pin because going at the pin can result in a bogie is just riveting. And then making that 30 footer under pressure is just golf at it's very best for me.

I was telling my daughter (who was watching with me mid round on Friday) that my prediction for the final winning score will be the 36 hole lead score.  I honestly don't think it will be too far off from that.  The conditions the course is playing progressively harder with each day...today will be test...

Round 2 leaderboard.

-10 could win or be in a tie... Someone cards -11 or better and I think they are the US Open Champ outright.

Not saying this is a long shot by any means... because we have seen him do it time and time again over the past year and half.  But if I was one of those last two groups, I would definitely be looking ahead at Scheffler to see what he is doing.  He is the danger on the first page of the leaderboard.  That said. The leaders need to just play a good aggressive (not overly aggressive) round... basically not "protect golf" because that will be the death of a round.. they need to play like they are a stroke behind all day.  Scheffler can definitely shoot a 66-67 which puts him right in the mix... he plays best when he is playing catch up.  The other guys just need to maintain the margin by shooting a stroke or two under par... or better.

I like everyone on the leaderboard.  I am pulling for Rickie (because I have pulled for him in every tournament over the past several years... I'm not a bandwagon jumper with him... I'm long time Team Rickie).

Sticking with -14 Rickie

Hoping he plays a super solid round and gets it done.  I think -13 may be enough.  There's probably a 65 out there; just depends who decides to card that round!

It looks like they are going with easier pin placements on a few holes today (8 and 15 at least). I hope they compensate on other holes.

Oh yes, you are absolutely correct about those interviews and the inane questions that get asked over and over again.

I have few problems with LIV, other than the Trump connections (anything that brings attention to “the Donald” rubs me the wrong way), and it is true that Rory has been steadfast in his stance and consistent in his responses. It’s just that his presentation style seems to have taken a shift from stating his view without whining to constantly whining.  Plus, anyone who persists in expressing “hate”, as Rory has done, turns me off. I may dislike things, but I have no tolerance for hate.

The media has a way to ask insane questions to everyone in sports and politics.

I’m hoping Ricky wins.  I just like him and have for years.   I like Rory as a player and think he has done a great job as the PGA front man the past few years.  He is a fantastic player. So is Rahm and so is Scottie. I like all of them as players.

What I don’t like about Rory, and this is not his fault, is the constant idolizing of him by everyone on TGC, NBC, Peacock etc.  Ever since he became the face of Golf Pass, they cheerlead for him constantly suck up to him ad nauseum.  No one is talked about on TV as much as Rory.

… As I said earlier I am torn and I would be equally thrilled with a Rickie win. With Rory’s talent I am tired of hearing the media constantly bringing up his drought in Majors so love to see him squash that for the next couple years before they start again. 🙄 Of course I can almost say the same for Rickie as they constantly harp on “what happened to Rickie” as if he is the first Pro to struggle for a few years, so a win by him would be awesome too.

… And how can anyone not love Scheffler when he is always smiling and playing the best tee to green since Tiger? Clark was a non factor til that piece on losing his Mom at a young age so gotta pull for him too. I can’t remember the last Major with such an awesome leaderboard heading into the final round.

I think it's more a question of can he keep getting away with his short game bailing him out of approach mishits.  Or whether Rory can sink a putt.

I feel bad for the guy who screamed "Cmon Rory!" the whole time. Sounded like he had money on the line and was more invested than even McIlroy himself.

Finding a way to turn birdies into bogeys since 1992. #TeamChunks

Great win for Windham Clark but I feel for Rickie & Rory.  Really was a terrific finish.

... Right there with you Rick. I think pretty much all you can ask for is someone wins a Major and doesn't back in because someone folded like Norman did for Faldo at the Masters. Clark certainly kept his foot on the accelerator and won this Open. I still can't believe he didn't take a drop when his bal was buried in that grass next to the green when there was a good lie right behind him but that mentality is exactly why he won.

Didn't manage to stay awake till the end, but cool to see Clark pull out his first major. He's been having a great season and playing really well all year.

Congrats to Clark!!

Was a good end to the Major, and actually worked out to be in a very watchable time over here in Australia, but it was a pretty average major overall to me. LACC just did not seem set up for a Major, there was too many absurdly easy holes the first day, and then it over corrected way too much the second day, and sort of levelled off after that, but the holes in general just didn't seem great. Ridiculously long par 3s and 4s, multiple blind shots over trees, and fairways that ran way too fast. It didn't seem challenging in the sense that there was good risk vs reward so much as it seemed that after day 1 there was barely a handful of scorable holes and the rest were just a grind with no chance for anything to happen.

Mix that with low attendance due to members apparently taking all the tickets, and goddamned plane flying overhead the entire time droning over the top of the broadcast, just so they could show 2 seconds of aerial footage once an hour, and it was just long patches of dreariness.
