tommyb1683
Today I got out for a casual round at James Baird State Park in NY. First time playing there this year. Course was in good shape for being so early in NY, the sand traps are being redone and a few greens were not the best but still playing golf so it was a good day. Shot a 92 today with 3 triple bogeys so not terrible in my book. clean up a few of those and the confidence grows. I hope everyone else had better weather than this morning here though. Tee'd off at 9:00 am and it was 45 degrees. sirchunksalot, Sluggo42, GolfSpy_SHARK and 6 others 9 Quote WITB Driver: Stealth Plus+ Diamana ZF60 Flex X Shaft 3 Wood: King F8 Hybrid: TSI3 Irons: 2019 T100s Limited Edition Black Wedges: SM6s 52, 56, & 60 (Black Heads) Putter: Phantom X 5.5 Gear: Bushnell Wingman & Shot Scope Pro LX+w/H4 for yardages. Popular Post Triple_Putt
Decent day of play, and my best score of the year thus far. It was downright chilly out there, with a lot of clouds and wind! Shot an 89 at Hunters Golf club in Meriden. Nothing too exciting, zero birdies on the day unfortunately. My putting has improved a bit with a total of 34 putts today so happy about that! Popular Post richk9holes
I drove about 1 1/2 hr, across the PA border for golf 1st time to Melrose CC, just north of Philadelphia. Par 70, neat old course cut into the woods with lots of slope. Another course I get aerated greens. 2 of the last 3 have been. Course was also busy so I just lagged and picked up 2 putts each hole. Hit the ball well, especially a 5 hole stretch from 9-13 at +3, +1 net. Scored 49-47 for 96 with 34 putts. 10 holes double or worse and lost 3-4 balls OB. Had horrible luck with cart paths, and this is a course that if you bounce on one the ball goes down a hill and ends up 40y lower, 80y away from where you thought it was. 2 balls were "lost" until I found them 8-10 holes later 2 fairways over. sirchunksalot, Sluggo42, GolfSpy_SHARK and 9 others 9 3 Quote Finding a way to turn birdies into bogeys since 1992. #TeamChunks '23 Forum Tester: Elixir Golf Ball WITB:TS2 10.5° @ 11.25° Tensei blue AV 55 R graph•917f2 15° @ 16.5° Diamana blue x5ct dialed 70 R graph•Stealth 22° Ventus red 6 (non-velo) R graph• 699u 2i 17° tgi 70 R graph•24° Tour v 90 black pvd R steel•699 6i-PW Tour 110 black pvd R steel• SM8 50°/08° @ 52°/10° SM8 stock steel• Jaws Full Toe 56°/12° DG Spinner TI steel • c series DW 2.0 slant neck stock steel•Phantom 2 gps•Tour v3 rangefinder•Elixir golf ball•
Popular Post ncwoz
Found out in a fitting yesterday that my path has gotten pretty excessively outside in. Might be a product of hitting on a net all winter with no ball flight feedback Meant to work on that before playing, but ended up with better than expected weather so played 18. It was super windy, which led to some trickiness, and I couldn't quite get my path neutralized. Lots of pulls and a couple pull hooks. My putting felt great, hit my lines just didn't have much go down. Short game was tidy as well, and contact was solid throughout the day. Just gotta get the path sorted out and get a little more confident in the wind and things should be moving in the right direction! cksurfdude, sirchunksalot, ejgaudette and 9 others 12 Quote Right Handed Driver: 9° Speedzone (HZRDUS Smoke Green 70g X-Stiff shaft) 2 Hybrid: 18° Exotics EXS Pro (Evenflow Black 6.5) (2020 MGS Official Review here) 3/Driving Iron: 18° UiHi Iron (MMT Utility TX 105g shaft) Irons: 4-GW T100 irons (Nippon Modus 120 X-Stiff shafts) (2021 MGS Official Review here) Wedges: 54° & 58° TSW Forged (Dynamic Gold S300) Putter: ER2B (2019 MGS Official Review here) Ball: MAXFLI Tour X Bag: Hoofer Lite WITB thread here

Popular Post Kenny B
My wife and I are playing in a charity tournament a week from Friday at Canyon Lakes GC in Kennewick. This course is probably our best and toughest public course in town. The greens are brutal compared to all other courses... big, fast and lots of undulations. I like fast greens, but I'm not used to the large breaks and I don't see a good line for a putt. I'm a firm believer of getting the speed correct and if I don't make the putt, then it's an easy two-putt. Well, after today... I'm not so sure that I'm a firm believer anymore, at least not on this course. If I didn't have a good line, then the speed wasn't correct and the next putt is waaaay longer than it should be. I've played this course many times over the years, but not frequently. We played this tournament last year. Well, today we decided to play the course just to see if it's the same as last year. It is. It was a chilly 50º with winds 20-35mph... a little sun, a lot of clouds, a sprinkle or two, then a little hail. Just a lot of fun {read sarcasm}. I doubled the first two holes into the wind, then we turned with the wind and made a nice par on the long par 5. Sprinkle in a few bogeys and then another double on the par 4 #8. I hate this hole! Always have!! If the pin is in the front (as it was today) and your approach is anywhere past the pin, your first putt will run off the green!! After a par on the par 5 #9 hole and a front 9 score of 45, I was not very happy. Then on the #10 slight dogleg left par 4 playing very downhill and downwind I flew the fairway bunker and recorded my longest drive that I can remember... 257 yards. I made only one bogey on the back nine and a score of 37. For some reason I could see the line for my putts and my speed was perfect. Pretty happy with an 82 after the horrible start. The tournament a week from Friday is a scramble and my wife and I are playing with the couple we played with last Sunday. He can bomb 300 yarders, and the Ladies get lots of relief off the tees. I think this tournament will be fun this year. MadHatter
I'm starting to think I should just become a member at my local course, walked 9 holes after work 5 times in the last week and a half . Yesterday a buddy of mine and I walked the back 9. Feast or famine on this one, mainly due to greenside bunkers or water hazards. Last hole especially: Par 5, tee shot out of bounds, took the drop, then turned around and blasted my 3 wood 260 yards, shorted my approach into the sand, took 3 shots to get out of the bunker onto the lip, chip and 2 putted. Tragic end, but it's always nice to be out on the course. Of course it is all about expectations and playing to our "normal level" so I hope I don't come off as a conceited a$$ complaining about 18 straight pars. I would accept 18 straight pars from the Silver tees although a round without a birdie is always a little frustrating when yup play as much as I do. But moving up to the Gold tees I should shoot in the 60's every time. Three of the four par 5's are just long par 4's at 492-444-466 as everyone have a downslope I can reach for the Golds. Same with a couple of the Par 4's that have bunkers I can fly and hit a downslope. It was one of those days were everything just seemed a little off, hence the apathy. Nothing egregious but nothing stellar either. If I have quite a few shots inside 100yds I expect to have some tap ins but it was just lots of 15-20 footers and as I said the few I got slice on the par 5's lipped out. Popular Post David Leighton Reid
I played a couple of unfamiliar courses on vacation last week and my scores showed it. The front nine of the first course was very unkind to me by swallowing up 5 of my golf balls in water hazards. I shot 48 on the front and rebounded with a 39 on the back. I made sure to keep my ball in play on the back nine. The second course treated me better and I played the entire 18 balls with the same ball. Maybe playing a little smarter had something to do with it. I shot 41 - 43 for an 84 on the second course. Dweed
I guess "chilly" is somewhat multipurpose description of temps less than 45*. But the sun was out...sort of. Despite tense muscles, still managed to hit 7 fairways out of 7 fairways and 5 out of 9 GIR. Putting and chipping could have been better. Too many worm holes and corn cob pieces???. Yeah! The county mosquito control effort has started. They infuse a certain bacteria that kills mosquitos into small pieces of corn cobs, about the size of kitty litter pellets. Anyway, they contract out with local crop duster pilots to fly over the county and drop these pellets everywhere. Of course they were flying over the GC today at noon and lots of corn cob pellets on the greens. Amazing how putts bounce off. Popular Post Syks7
+3 on the little Par 30 exec near me and +8 on the front of my home course. The exec was great and my new hybrids are flat out awesome off the tee. Not as great on my home course. Some of that was experimenting with the hybrids... Will it handle this rough (no), Whats the turf interaction going to be on this lie, how accurate can I bet, etc. Learned a lot about them and they're going to play well for me. It looks to be a viable option to aim at the green from beyond 200. The nice part was that I never really hurt myself with them (aside from a silly attempt to come out of deep rough from 205). I think I might have reasonable full confidence in my whole bag now. My putting is still a struggle on my home course. I'm having serious yips. I'm over reading the hell out of the greens and struggling with speed. Fortunately, I don't seem to have that problem anywhere else right now. The nice part is that they're going to be different next time I play them (they punched yesterday) and I get to play a couple nice courses in the interim. Going to try my luck at Saticoy club on Monday (Site of last year's medi-heal championship for the LPGA). Greens are supposed to be lightning and the course is very narrow and windy. Should make for a fun tourney. Popular Post EasyPutter
9 holes after work today at Elma Meadows GC, the new regular course same as Monday in the driving rain and freezing precipitation only this 45⁰F day though breezy featured lots and lots of sunshine and warm enough for regular partner Marc to keep me slightly unfocused, and playing the White tees instead of the Senior tees. Evidence that for now should play forward was scoring 7 higher than Monday, and historically I play better when the weather is worse. Me and Bishop Pickering though I don't have a Carl Spackler to caddy for me Still it's golf and if Friday doesn't happen as I'm expecting it to, I've got my 18 holes for week 3 of the MGS Forum Member WVC Tour Mostly doubles today and no pars. Fabulous day for golf AND birthday dinner out with SWMBO who insisted that I play golf on her birthday. No this is not madeup fiction and yes it's the truth and I would never be so disrespectful to not golf when I should. Popular Post JerryB
Owen and I played the back nine at River Heights yesterday. Really windy but the course was wide open and we finished before the weather came through. Couple times I tried to keep it low and ballooned it, couple other times I tried to get it up and hit stingers instead! I felt like I wasn't playing well but I was scoring better than I felt. No GIRs and the only fairway hit was via tree. Recovered well and put a lot of short chips pretty close. Three one putts and only one three putt. Owen had a chip in on 14 to save par. Funniest story was on 15. He put his approach about ten feet off the green to the right, on a steep slope between the green and the river. With the wind in his face he had a weak swing and dribbled it barely onto the green. "Knew I should have committed," as he drops another ball to try again. Launches the ball in the air where the wind catches it...and deposits it softly on the green about a finger's width away from his first ball! Two very different approaches with the exact same results, lol. I started with a par and ended with a par. Overall a (+10) 46, Owen beat me by two.
