Wrecked 2 cars, got my identity stolen, wallet stolen, credit cards hacked, lost a cell phone there...

 

All in a total time of less than 2 hours.

I think the honest answer is who the heck really knows.   The Hokeybird is an institutional creation based on a song with the lyrics "Hoki, Hoki, Hoki.   I know this because my damm cousins back home sent their kids to VTech, when there was a much better school much closer to Richmond in Charlottesville.   Until around the late 70s, they were the Cobblers, aka a turkey.   In 1982, after castrating the turkey, the current Hokeybird first appeared.  

 

Similarly, we are known to most of the world as Cavaliers, but to the students and alums, we will always be Wahoos or Hoos for short.  There are two theories on how that evolved.  In the 1930s or so, we were playing baseball against a northern school and the opposing team was overheard saying-don't worry that are just a bunch of Wahoos and it stuck.  The  other theory which I tend to accept is that a Wahoo is a fish that will drink until it explodes.

 

When talking to recent graduates, I am saddened that it appears the school may no longer be the party school I knew and enjoyed.   Many of the activities that I thought would be undying traditions is now frowned upon by the current school administration because it may harm their image.  If I were a student there now, I'm not sure that I would be allowed on the varsity drinking team.

Yeah, I said What's a Hokey? a little tongue-in-cheek.  About 15 years ago I work with some guys on VT campus in the Computer Sciences group.  They were helping us on a government contract with the Russians (hey, better do an investigation!!).  They were grad students and post-grad and I asked them what's a Hokey and they didn't know!!   :lol:  :lol:

I know that lots of people love college football. To me it represents everything that is wrong with the world. I don't know why I can't stand the way athletes are being exploited for the NCAA to make billions here and enjoy college hoops so much but there is no rationale for emotion.

 

So I'm glad that it makes others happy - rest assured I will be playing golf, mowing the lawn or something else during the season.

Not really.  Spokane gets hit pretty hard, but we normally don't get much if any.  This last winter was an anomaly; probably a couple of feet of snow, but that's over a 2 month period and it never got above freezing.  Normally, it will snow all day and we get half and inch; dry powder.  I usually get it off the driveway with a push broom.

Very interested to see how year 2 of the Dino Babers experience is in the Dome. Was very fun last year to see a team that threw the ball around for fun and went for it seemingly all the time on 4th down. Downside, schedule is stupid hard thanks to prior AD's (LSU, really?) and the ACC Atlantic being a total bear with Louisville, FSU, and Clemson, plus crossovers games against Miami and Pitt. Hoping for a bowl game, but really hoping for visible improvement that shows even if the record doesn't because of that schedule.

im a huge Alabama fan but I don't think they should be ranked number one. They lose a lot to the draft, rebuilding on defense and another new Offense coordinator. I would honestly have it this way
