On a good note, there’s no records broken against Lions in that game. AdamTheilen was looking for 9 straight with 100 yards receiving, he got 22 against the Lions. The defense played good enough to have a chance, but the offense didn’t put a good game together, the O-line was had more holes than a block of Swiss cheese, and Stafford was on his back more the a ....well you get the picture.

While my wife goes to the Ravens games, we, never the less, DVR it so she can watch again.  However, I know to delete it if they lose.  Yesterday, I watched the local post game shows which have become rather interesting.   They show a lot of written fan comments and there are not a lot of happy people.   They included suggestions regarding the future tenure of the coaching staff and whether its time to replace Flacco and give the recent draft pick the chance.   In the post game press conference, a reporter asked the head coach about his tenure.   While I am a Redskins guy, I'm beginning to find Baltimore football and its related public dialogue to be entertaining and interesting.

understood,

but my point being that if you want to win games and you are behind the 8 ball half way through the 3rd and 4th quarter,  then field goals are not an option and you have to go for the first down to keep moving towards the end zone.  Yes, realizing the situation that put them there makes filed goals useless.

We've got a rare 1PM game against the Titans this Sunday.

I'm sure that the nation is heartbroken to not have the Patriots on national prime time television,

but the 1PM games are super convenient for me.

Sleep late, have breakfast, and it's gametime.

Sometimes, I watch the whole game in my bathrobe.

Sometimes, I shower and dress quickly at halftime.

Several years ago, we beat the Titans 59-0.

Some of the Foxborough faithful booed

because we didn't go for a two-point conversion to make it an even point-a-minute game.

I remember that the Pats wore red Boston Patriots uniforms that day

while the Titans wore either Houston Oilers or New York Titans uniforms--I think it was the former.

We're down there Sunday and it will doubtlessly be a much closer match.

We'll see our Super Bowl XLIX hero,  Malcolm Butler, playing on the other side.

If we win, we'll go into our bye week with an 8-2 record.

This is far from one of our best teams over the past two decades,  but so far, we're doing OK.

America as a whole is desperate for another Lombardi Trophy to go to New England,

especially after last year's disappointment,

so let's hope for the best.

I’m thinking the Lions need to relocate to Venezuela....
Maybe THEN the “curse” will end.

It’s literally mathematically IMPOSSIBLE that they haven’t improved since the 1950s. The “Browns” won a Super Bowl after they became the Ravens! Detroit can move, be re-named, and can FINALLY start winning!
Venezuela Llamas has a nice ring to it!!!!

I though that after beating us in week 2 ,

the Lions moved to Vancouver, British Columbia.

Prior to the arrival of the Ravens, Baltimore had a CFL team, the Stallions.   The wife and I were season ticket holders and the games were very enjoyable.   That brings up somewhat of an interesting sports trivia question.   What USA city has had football teams that have won both the Super Bowl and the Grey Cup?

You answered your own question.

The Colts, Ravens, and Stallions have all won.

Unfortunately, the Orioles don't look ready to win anything.

I understand that the Orioles did set a record this year--the most losses in a single season ever for them.   With the Orioles and the Ravens, Baltimore is not what one would label a happy sports town right now.

I hope that you're young enough to wait, Wahoo.

I certainly do appreciate that comforting thought.   But I am definitely what one would call "old coot" for I have just entered my 7th decade on this planet.   Also, since the days of Eddie LaBaron, I have been a Redskins fan.   Accordingly, I do have my fond memories.   A few years ago, I worked the practice area for a PGA event.  On pro-am day, I got to meet and talk to Joe Theisman and Mark Rypien.   I made sure to thank them for the memories.

While I played baseball through high school, I have never been a real baseball fan.   But as I have stated on other threads, I made a real mistake with my wife and her family,   They asked since I was a Redskins fan, do I support the Nationals.   I said not really, but they do still play real baseball in the National league.   Mistake, a large mistake, a major mistake.

Your mention of the Redskins reminds me of one of the most ridiculous, albeit detailed dreams that I've ever had in my life.

I was in my early sixties when I had the dream, but I remember it as if it were yesterday.

I was about fourteen years old. We were having a big family dinner at the beach house that I would one day inherit.

Folding tables were set up in the great room to make room for all the guests.

This wasn't uncommon;  it happened often way back then. (Now, at this stage of my life,  four or five people seems like a mob to me.)

Sitting next to my grandmother (who barely spoke English) was her friend__I kid you not--Mamie Eisenhower--who had just recently been First Lady of the United States.

I told you it was a weird dream, but it gets weirder.

Mrs. Eisenhower leaned over and whispered in my ear to put everything I had on the Redskins.

Her voice sounded like Eleanor Roosevelt's, however.

What the Redskins were doing playing in the middle of summer, I don't know.

Next scene in the dream, I am at the sports book at the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas.

I have placed bets there in real life, but not decades before the building was constructed.

I place my bet and the teller at the window says, Bon Chance as he hands me my ticket.

The Redkins win big, so what do i do with my winnings?

I buy the barber shop where, in real life, when I was six years old,

one of the neighborhood kids and I went right through the front window while fighting on the way home from school.

The window is fine, and the lady barber selling the shop to me was Miss Felker,  my Nazi-sympathizing seventh grade spinster teacher in real life.

(Nino had been the real barber there in real life. I wasn't really old enough to call him by his first name but he insisted.)

Anyway, before leaving, Miss Felker showed me the ropes, and as it turned out, the barber shop was a front for selling Thompson sub-machine guns which were hidden under the towels.

Now we're getting to the end.

I go running home to show my grandfather one of the Tommy guns and he yells at me for leaving the others unattended at the shop.

Now, I'm closer to just ten years old rather than fourteen, but I awaken because i have to go to the bathroom (like men in their sixties do).

I've got to be an idiot for sharing this, but I thought you might get a kick out of it.   Everybody does.

This begs the question what would you do? Wasn’t he due $16,500,000 for showing up? For that I’d bust it outside, pull a hammy and sit out the season.

It took several weeks,

but the Pats finally regained the form that they showed in Detroit and Jacksonville.

Who penciled in losses to the Lions, Jaguars, and Titans this pre-season?

I was very pessimistic, but Detroit, Jacksonville, and Tennessee?

It's as though Billy Sullivan has arisen from the dead to resume control of the team.

Unfortunately, as one ages, there comes a time when your f@rts become wet and your dreams become dry.

But fortunately, even at my age,  I still have pleasant memories of my Redskins.   They've got a shot at a division championship, but a Super Bowl would be a wet dream in a manner of speaking.   Now if my Hoos can just beat the Hokies (its been 14 years) before my dirt nap.   Perhaps, we have a chance this year.

Man. Steelers somehow pulled one out today. Played horrible for 3.5 quarter yet find a way to win. Hoping that's a springboard for the rest of the season!

Well, the wife came home from the Ravens game  rather happy.   Like many, she thought the rookie quarterback, Jackson, did well in his first start.  From my perspective, the other backup quarterback, "Three Sticks" (aka RG III) perhaps, should mentor him and provide some advice.  Specifically, he could say "Hey kid, you did well, but you should really learn to throw the ball.  I can tell you from personal experience, if you keep running like that, you're gonna get hurt."

While I agree that Jackson did well and should be commended,  because he was a rookie quarterback, it somewhat overshadowed the play of another rookie, the running back, Edwards.

I was really sorry to see one of my Redskins, Smith, get such a serious injury.   One hates to see anyone injured like that.   While I genuinely hope and pray that he makes a full recovery, I would hope that Theisman might suggest to him that it is time to retire.

I do not bet on games, but I wouldn’t never have bet on the Lions beating the Panthers, and that is why I don’t bet. There were some good games this weekend. Praying for pain relief and good recovery for Alex Smith, very bad injury. I cannot believe that injury was 33 years to the day of Joe Thiesman. That is crazy

Football is dead. There is nothing but offense.... it's all that is allowed. If you are like me: a fan of defense...... football is dead.

Pretty much. It has turned into glorified college football with best offensive players. No more defense wins championships.
