Scotty Cameron Putters

Why are Scotty Cameron putters so much more expensive that other top brands? I actually own an older model, but don't use it anymore. I cannot remember what I paid, but I'm sure I bought it preowned. I know they are good putters, but I don't think they are that much better than Odyssey or Ping. Maybe it's "golf snob" appeal or the fact a lot of tour players use them. I've even noticed that SC grips are around 50 or 60 bucks. The one on my putter was made by Golf Pride. One can buy the same grip for $8.50 without Scotty Cameron's name.

They are priced in the same range as Evnroll, Toulon, Bettinardi, the TM Spider and I'm still probably missing one or two more high end brands.  

There is a lot of craftsmanship and quality put into them.  And yes, you are paying for a name as well, before the marketing police jump in and get on that bandwagon
 
Do they perform better than the mass products from other manufacturers.  That's something each individual has to decide for themselves.

I personally have tried almost every putter out there - SIK, Evnroll, Bettinardi, Scotty, Odyssey, Ping, Directed Force (LAB), YES!, Taylormade, Cleveland, Seemore, Axis, etc. You name it, I have tried it more than likely. As a former Scotty Cameron hater, I tried all the other putters, gamed a few, and ultimately kept coming back to a Scotty - they are by far the most well-balanced, purest feeling, best looking at address (and not at address - not that it matters). Say what you want about marketing, hype, name, but he makes great putters and there's a reason pros use his putters - news flash, it's not because they get paid a ton to use them. I have several friends on tours - across the board - and they use them because they've told me they feel they're the best putters. Now if you haven't been fit for the right one and you're randomly pulling one off the rack, maybe you would disagree. Will it save you 2-3 strokes a round - maybe, but I know they 100% aren't going to COST you 2-3 strokes per round. The goal in golf is to eliminate the variables - find the best club possible, it's up to you obviously to perform, but I believe they give you the best chance to perform your best...that being said, your best not be great, but it will assist in helping you play your best. 

If a pro could use a putter and save 1 stroke or .5 strokes per round by benching their Scotty, they would - and so would I. Some may putt best with their Odyssey or Bettinardi - whatever it is, go with it if it's the best fit for you. I'd just say pay attention to what the guys on tour use to a degree, I promise they aren't playing clubs because they're paid an extra grand to game it. I'd advise looking at "free agent bags" to see what's in play - they're playing what they think can win them money and tournaments. I'd also take a look at what's going on with companies like SIK and LAB putters - I believe in the technology and can attest to the quality of them first-hand. If you're worried about a pro playing those for any money, they aren't - playing them because they're quality putters that help their game. 

 

Bottom line, you can't go wrong with a Scotty Cameron - I promise these will not hurt your game - just help.

Pretty nailed it. Ping, Odyssey, Cleveland and Wilson are all going to be sub 200.

Crazy thing is under the odyssey brand toulon now costs more than scotty cameron where as when toulon was a small family owned business they were cheaper

You also have to factor in differences in materials as well.

I never thought I'd spend the money on a Scotty, but it outperformed my previous putter - an Odyssey. The Odyssey just wasn't a good fit for me, but it was still a good putter and if I found one that outperformed my current gamer I would go back.

I used to love the odyssey 7 and 1w but a mid mallet scotty like the m1 and the np/np2 work better for me. 
 

I used to have a toulon San Diego but for reasons I won’t get into here I stopped rolling them. Really good putter and one of the best rolls I’ve seen on a ball.

They charge what the market will bear just like every other OEM. I own putters from just about any maker that is out right now and can’t say one is better than the other but the majority of what I own is either made by Cameron or Odyssey/Toulon.

I can tell you I got fit for my Scotty when I first started playing about 6 years ago, and I went in with an open mind and a plan to buy whatever the numbers said was best.  At that time I was very much a golf newbie and didn't know Scotty Cameron from Top Flite.  At the end of the day, i putt better with it (not that I'm putting well lately, by any means).

At the end of the day putters are putters and whichever one enables you to accomplish the basic fundamentals will work. That could be a Tyson Lamb, Cameron Circle T, Cameron retail, Evnroll, odyssey, Wilson, or one of the many other manufacturers.

Cameron’s are high quality as are the other putters. Cameron caters to the pros and as a result has many putters in tour player bags. The fact that they show up on TV has created interest and as a result the prices go up. As long as people are paying the price the merchandise will be
expensive.

Are Cameron’s better? Probably one of the most debated topics on golf Forums. You can see differing opinions within this thread and thus forum is vey civil compares to others. People putt well with Cameron’s and people putt poorly. There are a variety of models so as long as you find one that works for you stroke it will perform well. Find one that fights your stroke and it will cost you shots on the course.
