Happy Day to those who celebrate. We have been preoccupied with the newest member of the family, Cooper. We have since learned he will be a a year and a half old next month. He is the happiest little guy going. Not yet sure of his breed. We have a vet appointment in a few weeks to get his shots updated. He moves around really well in spite of his amputation.

I saved my cuppa to be enjoyed on my drive to the course. I might also consume a sausage biscuit as well.

A few years back one of the neighbors down the street adopted a dog from the shelter that had been hit by a car and lost the same back leg. The dog had no real known name, so he named him Tri Pod. That dog did fine and man could he run!! I do not know about him now because they moved a couple of years ago

* -- I was able to look up that extremely prominent golfer on GHIN, which is easy to do. He does carry a 2.5. And he hasn't posted a score in three years, although he plays a LOT.

Yeah, I play with a guy that was a 7, but now is a 15 and he wont even post the higer scores. It is vanity, where he wants to brag. I make him give me the strokes, which he know he cant do and win. Dumb. I have another friend that is a college golfer and bounces between a +2 and +4. He no longer posts, but he tells me that nobody at his level looks at strokes, so he doesnt bother

I can understand that. Scottie Scheffler said recently he plays matches at his club with semi-hackers and plays those as a +7, so an 11 handicap would get a stroke a hole. Sometimes he wins, sometimes he loses, or so he says. But if he were playing with scratch-plus guys they probably don't bother.

I have been reading this thread with @vandyland and a few others, i am struggling understanding why golfers would get "vanity" handicaps or "higher" handicaps..

Golf is the one sport I have played where there is a mechanism in place that enables players of all levels to potentially compete against each other on a "fairly" close playing field. 

I can't play tennis against a professional tennis player and have a "match" or a professional squash player and have a match (just a couple of games that come to my mind at 6:57 am PST)

However if Tiger woods wants to play a match, he is a +10 and I am a 2, he has to give me 12 strokes, and will most likely dust me but whatever...

I truly believe that the R&A and the USGA and the governing bodies have set up a system that is in the best interest of the game, and I also believe that 75-80% of golfers that keep a handicap do so with integrity, probably more maybe 90-95%.

In my lifetime "sandbaggers" have been quietly identified and monitored by the members of their clubs and get called out at some point.

I would not call it a rant just posting information and your honest opinion.

I never had a handicap or played handicapped golf until I joined our league last year. We are not on the GHIN system but on a program called I Cap.

Now back when I first joined here I was a 5 cap from the back tees. A friend of mine was physically challenged (from birth) but was a computer whiz. He bought all the software and did our scores. He never wanted a dime he just loved to do it to occupy his mind. We would go by his house when our group called The Miura Mafia played close by. With his limitations he could not play golf but rode around and had fun and drank beer. Of course he never paid for a cart fee or a beer when he was with us. Sadly we lost him due to his physical defects some 6 years ago now.

IMHO the handicap system is ok IF it is used properly with some honesty and ethics involved. But then again I am a rookie on the handicap system.

We do have some "rules Nazis" in our league. One said something to me because he saw me playing one day and I did not post a score. The reason being I was playing a persimmon round which can be 5 to 7 shots more depending on where I play from. Sometimes I play our Par3s from the tips and make them Par 4s. Well I went to the league Pres., VP and handicap chairman and explained. Playing the vintage stuff I could post and run my HC up a lot then play the modern stuff in tournaments. That would be sandbagging and dishonest and they agreed. They told the old busybody to MHOB and leave it up to the members to police themselves. I think as a whole our league is ran fairly.

@Northern Monkey @Javs great photos guys and I hope both of you enjoy the time you're on vacation.

@Jim Shaw I can't remember what thread you posted this in, but I recall you grading yourself on your tournament season. I wanted to say I think you should be proud of what you accomplished and shouldn't give yourself anything but an A+. I remember you struggling early in the season and not playing to your standard. You fought back and won 2 times and that to me, is impressive.

Topic for discussion: Golf Digest ran a test of whether tee height actually affects distance/accuracy (or is "tee it high and let it fly" valid?) Their conclusion is that teeing it higher does increase distance, but also increases dispersion; you miss more fairways by teeing up high. What have you noticed? I don't tee it up very high anyway, but if the fairway is tight or there's a big crosswind I go lower and it does seem to help me find the fairway a little more often. Maybe I should experiment with higher tees (the yellow Brush-T in my case) and see if that helps my distance.

He was one cool guy too. He was also dyslexic and that was hilarious even he thought it so. On a computer he was dead on it never made a mistake there that I know of. Now keeping score on a scorecard with pencil and paper you better watch because he would give you a 9 instead of a 6 and stuff like that. If he wrote out golf with a pencil and paper it came out flog. He would deliberately do stuff like that to make everyone laugh. It was funny how he was wired. You could call out scores verbally and he had them added up in a flash. We also found out he was a card counter like Dustin Hoffman in Rainman. One amazing guy

I personally haven’t played around with tee hights, sometimes down a bit into the wind I guess

Depends on the player and AOA and where one plays the ball in their stance. I hit a low runner cut that guys down here call the "Stuey Stinger". As my late friend Big John used to say I tee it up to traditional height. That is true I tee a modern metal same height as a persimmon driver. Our course is tight and that is the best way for me to control it. Now I played a couple of different courses not as tight as ours in the last month or so. There I teed it a little higher and moved it up in my stance some. I can carry it further that way but the control is not there for me. But that is how I roll

I think this is a swing and ability level question. As you stated hole design and wind etc. all matter. However, I personally do hit up on my drives when hitting a stock drive or downwind. So, yes it is teed higher. Into the wind, I usually tee it down a little. However, depends on the hole design and shot shape I am executing. A lot of times into the wind I like to hit the low draw/hook to penetrate and roll. Like I said earlier, this question is very wide open and dependent.

The GD increase in dispersion could be because of longer distance.  1 degree open face has a wider dispersion at 250 yards than at 200 yards.

Good morning everyone! 

It's community call day and I'm looking forward to seeing everyone who makes the call this evening. 

My wife had to go to the doctor yesterday which makes for two trips this week. The first was for an ear infection and the second was for a sore that popped up on her arm and was causing her some pain. They don't think it's staph, so I'm happy to hear that. 

I'm still waiting on my MGS forum headcovers, I noticed on the USPS website they stated it was running late.

Last day for the League Championship. I am like 8 shots out of the lead so I will be freewheeling it. Hey it can be good or bad. I believe I still have a chance to win it but if not finish in the money pretty decent.
