Here are the results of the matches between the Vardon Division winners The Distinguished Gentlemen and the Palmer Division champions The Muscle Backs:

Match One:  GolfSpy_APH versus Shank Aaron:  Shank Aaron has been a substitute for the last few weeks and has served The Muscle Backs well.  After Shank Aaron won the first hole, GolfSpy_APH stormed back building up to a two-hole lead through the 13th hole.  After Shank tied it on the 14th, they traded hole wins until Shank Aaron net eagled the 18th hole to force a halve.

Match Two:  BNewton51 versus Mikedb26:  BNewton51 is another valuable substitute for multiple teams.  Unfortunately, mikedb26 has been fighting bronchitis and vertigo and was unable to post a round this week.  That lead to a disqualification and a win for The Distinguished Gentlemen.

Match Three:  Berg Ryman versus Bohnson:  Bohnson got out to a quick lead with as many as two holes up through hole 12.  Berg Ryman fought back tying the match on the 13th hole.  The pair proceeded to tie the final five holes of the match which ended in a halve!

Match Four:  CB Lobo 4 Life versus Tom the Golf Nut:  After CB Lobo 4 Life won the first hole, Tom roared back and went up by as much as four holes by the 6th hole.  Tom the Golf Nut cruised to a 4 and 3 win.

image.png.26ce6ec60c9a577b51acef526298d22c.png

As a result of these matches, the standings are as follows:

image.png.b539037840f1002e5d3755d6302d0f8a.png

Unfortunately given the tight matches, it was hard to over come not posting a score.  As a result, The Distinguished Gentlemen win the second semi-finals match and make it to this week's Championship Round!

Congratulations The Distinguished Gentlemen!

THERE YOU HAVE IT....IT ALL COMES DOWN TO TWO TEAMS:  SHARKY MAC'N SWANS VERSUS THE DISTINGUISHED GENTLEMEN!  Captains, I expect your finals pairing as soon as they are available.  You have to play a round between today and Sunday, October 8th.  Those scores must be posted before 8 PM Eastern time.  Shortly after that, the final results will be made public.

May the best team win!

Thank you @Golf2Much for putting all of this together.

As for the Muscle Backs, I am sorry that it essentially ended because of a WD. Sucks, but ver proud of how my team performed and a big shout out to @BNewton51 stepping up and subbing in for us.

We are ready and excited to take on our challengers Sharky Mac'n Swans!

We are running back the same lineup in the finals.

Want to say I am really proud of this team and very excited that we made the finals. I had high hopes and expectations for us going into it, as well as hoping we would have a lot of fun. Is great to see us make it to the finals and against a very worth challenging team.

Let's go out, have some fun, take it one hole at a time and put some wins on the board!

Played a round yesterday as I don't think I'll get another chance this week and did not play well. The WIAC Championships (Divison 3 colleges in Wisconsin) for women's golf are held at my home course every year, and it so happens to be this weekend. Sorry, gents. I'm most likely not securing even a half point this week 😰

I am going to hold off posting in case I can squeeze a round in at a course early Saturday morning...but I've never played it so it could be interesting as well 😬

After 56 matches, with 16 teams and 71 players (including 7 substitutes), we are down to the last two teams.   The last eight players for match play bragging rights.

Here are the final four matches between Sharky Mac'n Swans versus The Distinguished Gentlemen:

Match One:  @GolfSpy_BNG versus @GolfSpy_APH in a battle of moderators.  Being a scratch golfer GolfSpy_BNG has a 0 course handicap could be looking good here.  But depending on the course, he'll be giving GolfSpy_APH 7-11 strokes.  GolfSpy_APH shot three over par gross with 7 strokes last week which could be tough to overcome.

Match Two:  @fredsharky versus @Jnoble89:  This match up has fredsharky with mid-single digit course handicap against Jnoble89 who carries a course handicap in the mid to lower 20's.  That works giving up about a stroke a hole.  An unsurmountable task?  Time will tell!

Match Three:  @LinksgolfFever versus @Berg Ryman:  This match features two golfers with very similar course handicaps (depending on where they plan on playing this week).  LinksgolfFever is coming off a great round last week shooting 4 over par gross and getting nine strokes.  Not to be outdone, Berg Ryman in week 2 shot a gross +4 with 7 strokes!  Both appear to be very steady golfers and should be a tight match.

Match Four:  @swansosa versus @CB Lobo 4 Life:  The anchor match:  Here we have two golfers with middle to low single digit course handicaps.  In four matches, Swansosa had delivered an average of about -2 net per round where CB Lobo 4 Life has posted just over +1 net per round.  Both players best net rounds of golf were -3 net.  This should be a good one and who knows, it may decide who walks away as Match Play Champions!

Player, rest up, get your practice in and give us your best.  This should be an exciting conclusion to an already fun event!

No pressure or anything haha! 😉

To the Distinguished Gentlemen, I am currently trying to secure a tee time at a course I’ve played a couple times before as my round yesterday was not what I want to have to rely on. Should know in the coming days whether it works or not. If not, I’ll be posting my card and score this weekend to strategically not give @fredsharky an advantage! May the gamesmanship (and good sportsmanship 😁) begin! It’s championship week!

On August 6th I messaged @GolfSpy TCB mentioning that with the NBA now planning a mid-year tournament and the Ryder Cup fast approaching, maybe we should have a VCT mid-season tournament.  He quickly responded that we were on the same wavelength, and he already proposed a format which was the structure of this Match Play Tournament.  We quickly filled in a couple of blanks, created some structure and divided up the roles.  GolfSpy TCB would serve as the commissioner, and I would be responsible for scoring (as in the previous two tournaments).   Five days later the MyGolfSpy VCT Four Person Team Match Play Event was announced.

To our surprise, the response was overwhelming.  Over the next two weeks, the captains raised their hands, teams were formed and creative team names and logos were developed.   Finally, as September 1st approached, captains made their pairing choices and week one kicked off with 64 golfers, 16 teams and four divisions.  I don't know about the rest of you, but I found the team banter fun to read and it made me even more excited about playing in this event!

After week one, our commissioner needed to step aside due to unforeseen circumstances.  I volunteered to be the assistant commissioner and do the scoring to keep this puppy going!  I want to thank all the captains and participants for your patience.  We made it through the last two weeks of divisional play and the semi-finals last week without a major incident!

In reading many of the comments on this thread over the last few weeks, I appreciate all the kind words directed my way.  However, I can't take the credit.  If it wasn't for GolfSpy TCB's vision and determination, this event would not have been possible.

So, I think it's only fitting that we dedicate this week's final matches to Commissioner GolfSpy TCB!  Without him, we would not have had the opportunity to compete with our fellow forum members from around the world in this type of match play event.

Thank you, Commissioner @GolfSpy TCB...these finals are for you!

Very well stated @Golf2Much and thank you for performing the extra duties to keep it going.

Even though I wasn't able to participate in this event, the efforts made by both the players and the team setting it up and keep track of the scores made this a very successful MGS member participation event. 😎

More details to come, but an underwhelming 78.

Just ran out of energy to really push through. Nothing terrible, but certainly wish it would have been better.

Well I’m shooting for a 75 with the expected weather so you should be more than ok with your handicap. I gotta decide if I go out early morning in sub 50’s or late afternoon in mid/low 50’s but more wind.  Sunday is suppose to be worse so it will have to be tomorrow.  Hopefully my teammates can pick up my slack
