Hey Guys, I just hid about 12 posts about Scotland, let's keep this on the topic of the outing please to make it easier to read for everyone interested in going.  Definitely start a new one on all things Scotland, I know there are many that would love to hear experiences and helpful tips for their trips there.  This just isn't the thread for it. 

Also no need post an apology post, that just does the same thing. a simple like will do!   WE get it no harm committed, happens all the time.   But this thread will hopefully be active for he next 6 months and beyond, so we want to keep it on topic.

Just more information about the courses.   The River course hosted an LPGa event form 2003-2021 and the PGA from 1981-2002.   And the River, Woods course and I think plantation were the course that Big Break III was filmed on.    so for those ( @Tom the Golf Nut) that like to do early research you can watch some TV.

For any Spies who are planning to go, and who might want to stay an extra night.

I will be staying an extra night since I'm driving to/from and it's a bit of a haul.

If you want to stay the extra night for whatever reason, let @Golfspy_CG2, @GolfSpy_BEN, and @Getoffmylawn know, and they'll see if they can extend one of the villas an extra night. Cheers.

Considering a similar plan .. drive ~8 ½ hours .. arrive early and stay over Sunday. Also looking at flights, so still TBD for me.

If anyone is considering flying in for the event your airport options are 

Richmond:(RIC) - about an hour away

Norfolk (ORF) - about an hour away but you have to go through a tunnel which backs up frequently so schedule flights accordingly.

Newport News (PHF) - about 20 minutes away but a smaller puddle jumper kind of airport.  
 

also,  I am local to the area so let me know if you have any logistical questions in this thread or via DM.

My drive is the same coming from TN. Getting there somewhat early depending on when we can arrive and then wait and drive home rested Monday.

I'm looking at my routes and thinking  with extra drive time planned in, I might skip the interstates this time and use just highways.  It adds time, sure, but it also is a way to see parts of the country I would otherwise not see and being out of the way, traffic is always light and enjoyable in my decades of doing just that.  

How far is my drive?  Rob and just about everyone from the 1st meetup knows.  Google shows 550 mi / 9 hours but that includes I-95 and the Washington Beltway ick.  My preference is the 500 mi route through Fredericksburg and Winchester that will take some highways through PA and WV I have never seen before!  Will also revisit VA highways not seen since parents' travel trailer days to Cape Hatteras at about 11 hours.  And no, I don't push traffic, speed or time.  Looking forward to the adventure!!!  BEEP BEEP

Just got word via text from Chuck @cksurfdude about the outing!!  I’m still in hospital bed.  
Sign me up along with my wife Martha, if you guys don’t mind having her play with us.  I’m planning a trip east to visit friends, will be scheduling that trip around this outing.

Sorry to hear you’re still in hospital, hopefully getting some rest and recovering.

Don't know if it's sorta on or way off your intended path, but the route along the Skyline Drive is pretty nice!

Check in to the Condos is usually slated around 3:00 PM, I think last year they got into the condos there a bit earlier.  It all depends on how busy they are.  But plan on 3:00 but there are several places around the resort to hang around for lunch or having some bevergaes until then if you get there early.

Keep in mind you can continue down Route 17 from Fredericksburg down the middle neck all the way past Yorktown into Newport News, and backtrack just a bit to Williamsburg.  You'll be going right past the MGS headquarters that way.

Planning on driving down me thinks.  Almost went the train route, but the return train times don't line up well.

I’m signed up and already worked on scheming (oops I mean planning) a way to make it a business trip for the week.  Success 

It only makes sense, right! Since I do have a project going on with the Navy at Newport News. I do cover Virginia and the entire NE Coast. I have other customers in VA like all the Dominion power plants.

Sounds like a business trip to me. Leave Monday drive to Raleigh spend the night. Visit a customer on Tuesday morning. Play a round of golf. Drive up to VA someplace spend the night. Visit some customers. Get closer to the resort spend the night. Check out Thursday morning and maybe meet up with some of you for a Thursday round. 
Sure hate all my work traveling. But somebody’s got to do it.

That said, these outings don't have to be at a big resort, see the Maryland one the first year.    I have played golf in MO around the Overland Park and Lenexa area and there were some very nice courses.  So these are much more about spending a few days and good times with MGS members than playing a bucket list or big name course.   

As the guys who have been to the first two were the first to sign up for this one, shows you the experience of hanging out with fellow spies is the best.

Thats too bad because then we could have had planes trains and automobiles!
