My second round back was three strokes better than Tuesday, but it should have been significantly better than that.  Putting let me down today.  I had 31.  It would have been more, but I chipped in on the number one handicap hole for 0 putts.   That was offset by an unnecessary three putt on the short par 3.   My playing partners couldn't believe how many lip outs I had today.

Overall, I felt more of my strength back and it showed in my distances.

image.png.667a4e957880d9e36245b85c333eab0e.png

I only missed two fairways today.  Unfortunately, one was in the water for a penalty.   Greens in regulation is still pitifully in single digits.  My up and downs today should have been much better if I could have sunk a putt.

This promises to be a big weekend.  Saturday is my normal round and Sunday is the Lower Keys Golf Association Championship.  I have no thoughts of grandeur that I might win the whole thing.  There's too many with significantly better handicaps.  I'm just hoping to place in the net score flighted portion of the tournament.  Hopefully I'll get some extra putting practice in the next few days to be better prepared for Sunday!  Plus, after the tournament is the Bills/Steelers playoff game.  Go Bills!

Strong winds again. Hit 13 greens and 10 fairways. Had multiple drives over 295. However, I putted poorly with 34 putts. I had 9 putts lip out, ouch! Hard day to swallow!! Especially when you are a plus 5 from the tees and course today and could only manage 1 over. Looking forward to Saturday!

It’s in the fine print of form you fill out when you post a score. I never noticed it, until it was pointed out to me.

I wouldn’t say it’s in the fine print. It is in the instructions below the box. The print is no finer than the one explaining how to  enter your strokes under or over par. During the Match Play Championship our team was eliminated by a 20+ handicap that made a par on a whole they got 2 strokes on. That’s simply the way it works.

This weeks SIM round takes us to big sky country in Montana, the reserve at Moonlight basin. Gorgeous mountain course with large changes in elevation.
image.png.64464d020faf048e45e20a82a8e441d4.png
The driver was working very well. Hit the fairway and the ball rolls a long way. Miss and your looking at bogey or worse.  Hit an absolute monster drive on the par 5 17th hole.  Hit centre of the fairway on the down roll and the ball just rolled, rolled and rolled some more.  When it stopped, 365 yards.  Had to do a double take when I saw how far it had gone.  Downside, I still had 290 yards to the flag, so happy with par and happy with round.

Welcome to the 17 th hole, from the tips 777 yd, par 5. For mere mortals 650 + yds  see below.

Since the wind speed is higher than the temperature, and it’s 34°, and it’s Cart Path Only today, and they are covering the greens tomorrow for the snow and ice expected Saturday night, yesterday’s round will be my last posting for at least a week.

Yesterday, it was 60’s and a light 20 mph wind so it was much more manageable than Wednesday. Pretty much bogeyed the holes into the wind and had some great drives with the wind. Day 2 with the new irons and I am very happy with them.

Absolutely beautiful day yesterday, playing one of (if not THE) my favorite courses in the LA Area.  Rustic Canyon, designed by Gil Hanse, is carved out of a valley in the Moorpark are of L.A., and it's a true (their words, not mine, as I've never been to the UK to prove it true or false) links course: wide fairways, lots of bunkers to get into trouble with, waste areas, closely-mown surrounds on nearly every green, and VERY speedy greens with lots of subtleties.  In short: it's an INCREDIBLE course.

IMG_8307.jpeg

Despite not making any birdies, had a LOT of opportunities - need to really hone my approaches, as I'm losing a LOT of strokes in that area (making the green, but averaging closer to 25' on first putts, which isn't awesome), but six net birdies, and honestly, no blow-up holes (one double, but...I three-putted, and there was no excuse for it).

IMG_8308.jpeg

I'm headed back to the same course next week, not to play, but to do a "full bag fit" with PXG, just to see what a real fitting with new/fancy clubs yields, numbers-wise.  I have a feeling I'm going to fall in love with something and have to put it on my vision board 😉

A cold start to the day...at least for me. In the 40's. But once the sun came over the mountain, it warmed up nicely to the low 60's. I wish the round went better. For the most part, i was nicknamed "Bogey Boy". I had a lost ball OB on #2, dunked one in the water at #6, got in the trees on #13, #17. My bright spot was on number 9. I birdied it with a series of nice shots beginning on the tee, followed by a long 2nd shot, a chip shot of about 45 yds to 8ft, and ending with a nice hole out of a right to left breaker. Made my day. It is all about the little things isn't it. I had several shots that will make me want to come back and give it another go. Again, it doesn't take much, does it?

Today was the Lower Keys Golf Association Championship.  I played pretty consistent over most of the 18 holes.  It's interesting how one bad shot can create an avalanche of other shots.  On a par four I was pin high just to the right with not a lot of green to work with.  Unfortunately, I bladed my chip across the green, flubbed another chip and three putted for a seven.  One bad shot yielded four!  I played well enough to take third place in my flight, so it wasn't too bad!

I did pretty well hitting fairways, my greens in regulation were low (but on par for me) and I had only two up and downs.  Unfortunately, that didn't include the four scramble one putt greens for bogies (which in these tournaments are valuable).

Three rounds in four days just over a week after having surgery is probably too much, but I made it through without any obvious complications.   As I look forward to next week, I'm hoping that I gain some more strength and start hitting the ball a bit better.

There's always hope!

Wow.

What a difference playing on the other side of the country.  Grass, soil and weather were all not the same as home for sure.

Shot pretty well.  My duffs were more penalized with the harder, drier sandy turf.  Almost no grass, but the turf interaction when there was some was very different.  I could feel almost a club length being taken away compared to our fluffy wet long bladed grasses in the PNW.   Almost no wind until half way through the back nine, which is when it started warming up, so ball length was harder to calculate.

S*it corurse, but loved the ride.  Felt good about playing the second 9 better even though I wasn't hitting longer.  Overall a good winter round.  Too bad it didn't work for my HDCP.  49.6 vs. 49.0 last week at my home course with a net of 115 vs 124.  Meh.  Golf.
