How Did You Discover MyGolfSpy?

GolfSpy_APH

For me it was one of the many, many, many searches for info on clubs - looking for info that was more honest than the glowing reports the big boys put out. My initial thoughts centered on what I “perceived” MGS as  player’s distance up to +handicaps and not for the person who was just learning the game.  Thanks to this community, I have found that MGS speaks to all….

WITB? Ping G400 SFT w/Aldila Mamba shaft R flex; Ping G410 3w; Ping G400 3h(19), 4h(22), 5h(26); TaylorMade SLDR 5i (interchanges w/5h)-PW -stock graphite shafts Rflex; INDI FLX-S wedges (50, 54, 58) w/Recoil graphite shafts -Rflex and Odyssey AI-One 7T BD Milled (aka Millie), ball choice tends to be Pro-V1 or simliar 3pc urethane balls.

I didn't discover MYGOLFSPY. It discovered me.  ...It was "just there" one day.  😁

It's been so long, I really don't remember. I might have heard about it from revkev.

Literally a pop up that appeared when I was searching for information on some clubs. Never been happier about clicking on something.

Pretty sure I answered this somewhere else recently,  but short and sweet, I was lured in with a "testing" post I saw on social media, and after a few hours/days reading and searching, I was hooked.

I now realize that there was so much I was missing from my perception of golf, and still am, but I'm getting there slowly. thanks to MGS!

I do not even remember to be honest. Probably a random search on the interwebs brought me to some kind of review. From then on, this is my source for the basic truth on clubs, balls, accessories and gear. It gives you a baseline to work from.

Based on my profile’s startup year, my entire rig was more than 10 years old, I think I was probably looking at what new equipment is out there in 2016, and what made them new. My first impression was, these guys definitely aren’t Golf Digest.  My second impression was, what do you mean golf equipment OEMs’ reviews are paid for?!

I found MGS’s forum about the same time I found WRX’s. I dropped WRX’s all together within a week or so. Not sure why, but probably because MGS was better organized.

I had been unable to play for over a decade, and was searching for club reviews to replace my outdated clubs. MGS popped up & I’ve been here ever since.

The name kept popping up here and there. I read some of the articles, and following some of the HQ staff online. Then I had a terrible interaction with a staff member on Twitter and ignored the site for a bit. I came around and eventually joined the forum when I saw some familiar names (and @Golfspy_CG2 assured me the forum folks were good people) but for the most part I still don't read too much on the main site to be honest. The forum is 95% of my interaction with MGS.

Searching for new irons.

Played golf for over 50 years until my health and business calendar reduced my time to less then 5 rounds a year. Then 4 years ago I retired, changed my diet and lifestyle, lost 100 pounds and got back on the course. Its been a struggle but things are getting better.

I was tired of the sophomoric, cliquish 🐂💩at the other “popular” sites.

Self esteem was low for the admin of one site, when a group on his site became far too popular - and he closed it down, banning some folks.

It’s great to get extremely viable info and mostly collegial conversations here, without the childish crap!

Chasing my ball around the cow field, trying to avoid the “ruff.”

Back in the 80's there was a magazine called Tackle Test reviewing fishing equipment. They only existed on subscriptions they didn't take advertising dollars. They survived a year and a half and got bought out by fishing tackle companies but assured us the content would stay the same. It didn't.

So when I started playing golf again in 2015 I looked around the interwebs and found MGS. So far, so good.

I kept seeing MGS pop up on Twitter and liked the zero bias reviews on clubs, especially at a time when I didn't know all that much about equipment other than what OEMs advertised. I found the forum through a testing opportunity and got signed up. Took me awhile to get active and really get going but once I did, I was hooked (clearly 😁).

I discovered MGS when I was researching equipment. I was looking for Titleist pro v1 equivalents. Over the last few years I’ve decided to try and use smaller companies instead of the big companies. I believe that’s how I can help promote innovation.

Was doing some club research and bounced into a My Golf Spy spy review. Two things: first it was written by someone who clearly put the club in their hand and tried it. Second it was a WRITTEN review. What I can read in 4 minutes takes 22 minutes to watch on a YouTube video.  YouTube videos, to me, are a great way to hear and see the timing and tonal inflection for the lead guitar part of the Allman Brothers Band's One Way Out. Watching some guy standing in an indoor driving bay with his hand propped up on the club he is reviewing drone on and on is not something I can suffer through.

The forums are a new thing for me. I signed up to be a tester with a pseudo resume and found out to be a tester you must be an active participant. Now I actually like being an active participant!

So you have been using companies like Vice and Cut? How do you feel the smaller company balls compare with the big 3 - Titleist, Callaway, Taylormade?
