Pockets

Why do some companies put those irritating small pockets inside the pants pocket. I realize they are supposed to be for a ball marker, however they are nothing but a pain. Interested to hear other views.

They are used to give pants the casual look since that pocket isn’t part of dress pants

In suit/dress pants, I took them to be originally for change so it won’t jingle while walking. 

If it’s the same in golf pants and a single marker, well, yeah, that would be annoying, since it’s not convenient to fish it out. I imagine tees can get stuck in them as well, which may or may not be a good thing.

I don't think I have ever used that little pocket, but am also not fussed by it either. Kinda is what it is for me and anytime I have ever put something in that little pocked I normally forget about it till it comes out in the wash.

 Very annoying indeed! I've stabbed my thigh reaching in for a tee thay got lodged in it once.  While inconvenient,  i had to take some needle and thread and flip the pocket out and sew it shut

More annoying is when they sew the spare button to the bottom of the pocket! Always feels like something is in the pocket!

The pocket was originally designed by Levi jeans to protect pocket watches. It was kept as part of the design to protect the integrity of the initial design. It’s been a part of fashion for along time because pretty much every Jean company kept it.

Its not something found in dress pants/suits because there is a pocket in the jacket for a pocket watch.

the interesting part is Levi has or had a patent on the pocket

The Levi jeans pocket, I know of. And in the past I have had dress pants with a small pocket sewn on at the bottom inside a regular pants pocket. My suit pants were pleated and roomy in the front, so I just assumed the pocket was there to stop change from jingling.

I remember them because I used to slide my hand in the pocket and get one of my fingers caught up in it.

I hate those inside little pockets because a tee will at some point get caught in it with the pointy side up.  And it will stab under my fingernail when i reach my hand in.

lol…this is a great thread. I use that funny little pocket to house the hands free key for my wife’s car. Besides that, zero idea, who carries change these days?

I love the small pocket for tees or ball marker/ turf fork. I hate them jingling around in my pockets.

Those pockets are useless, if you do put anything in there you have a hell of a time trying to get it back out no matter what it is.

Just eliminate the darn thing.

What about the pants or shorts with the regular pockets being way to short, no depth, you sit down and things just start falling out. UGH!!

Bigger issue for me is how some golf pants/shorts have mesh pockets. Nothing like reaching into your pocket for your ball mark repair tool and it's tangled in the pocket material.
