Morning drive - wedge tip

I work from home on Tuesday and so often will have the morning drive on in my study as I work.  Watched Paige McKenzie do a nice little wedge tip today with her 50.  She pounded the target at 75 yards with it even though she can hit it 105 - she demonstrated that also.

So I went to the range at lunch - I'm working hard on that 140-180 range but I him some wedges following her example - I hit my 48 105, so I aimed at the 100 sign which was 78 from where they had us, gripped down to the first dot and swung three quarters - I peppered that bad boy.

Why do always forget that it's best to hit wedges 3/4?  Why?

I'm making some nice progress with those mid-iron shots BTW - I'm basically shut down from playing for two months because of my wife's surgery but not from practicing - using this time to work on the holes in my game.

It's our offseason so auditioning candidates - looking for that right mix of low spin long, more spin around the greens - TBD

I missed that today.  Will have to see if I can find a replay on their site.

It is very rare that I ever hit my SCORS 100%, or even 90%.  I have found that I get much better results with the 3/4 swing and lower trajectory.

BTW, I watched a show last week or so where Brandel had Azinger doing some pitch shots with emphasis on using the bounce from various lies.  Wow!  I've been trying his shot and I certainly need more practice, but I'm liking the results so far.  I wish the would show it again and I can record it.  They did have a couple of short video clips, but not the whole show.

I watched it today myself, man did she pound that target, with seemingly little effort, so much easier to control the wedges with a much easier swing, so many times we go to the range and work on things, but rarely work on the wedges the way we should. As bad as my putting is, I need to get the wedges close, and even then I might make par. I know what I will be working on.

You should not discount the 1/2 wedge.

This is basically the Pelz Clock method. Without choking down on the club you were probably hitting it about 83 yards. Choke down an inch and hit it 78 yards. Change to the 53* club and you are probably hitting that 75 or so, and choking down takes it to 70. Move to the 60* and you have 65 and 60. Then the same thing with 1/2 swings and then choking down and you have 6 more preset distances. Include your 8 and 9 iron in the mix and you have added 8 more preset distances but longer.

So in your bag with the 8-P and the 3 Scors that is 6 clubs. A Full, 3/4. 1/2. 1/4 swing and choking down to the rubber, or in the case of the Scors, since they have a longer grip on them, you have two places to choke down to. This gives you 24 distances with the Wilson and 36 distances with the Scors.  Basically that will give you 60 preset distances all 15-100 yards,

Of course, this is a lot to remember and many of these distances will overlap. When I first started doing this I actually made a 3 by 5 card. Recently, I have discovered that I really did not need all the wedges for inside 100.

With my current set up, I was able to get up and down for par inside 100 90% of the time. So since I did not need the additional wedge, I was able to focus attention on the top of the bag so I could hit the green from greater range, thus the addition of an additional hybrid.
