Travel Bags - What Do You Use?

Recommended Posts

Been travelling a ton with my clubs over the last two years.  My Cadie soft-sided bag is starting to show a little age. I think they're out of the golf bag business, but this has been one dandy bag, especially since I got it on the 'Bay for about $15....

Sooooo.....

What do you guys use? What brands are your favorites? What features do you look for?  What about a hard case?

Looking at the Ogio Straight Jacket -- but I had an Ogio golf bag and it didn't last..,

Club Glove appears to be the industry standard -- any others?

Hard case is the worst- they take up a ton of space when full and when empty. I have two club gloves, one last bag and one XXL for when I used to travel with a staff bag. Have had em both for about ten years I'd say and never a problem. The majority of my friends who travel use them as well. I like the looks of the ogio ones but don't know anyone who uses one.

Im looking for one as well,  I looked at the straight jacket, like that it has extra padding on the top, looks pretty solid and you can get it for 130.00 at GS.  If I get one, I'm getting a stiff arm as well....

I have an ancient hard case.  I haven't used it that much, but its gone wherever I have gone with my clubs.  True, it takes up a lot of room empty - unless you put the clubs back in it or just stand it in the corner somewhere.  Full its no bigger than a soft case.  Its actually pretty small for a hard case - I have a carry bag that just barely fits into it.  Its not showing any signs of dying but if it does, I would look for something similar again.

Club Glove Last Bag... I've had it more than 10 years and traveled a lot with it.  It's starting to show wear, but it will probably outlast me!  I always take a small stand bag when I travel; put most of my clothes in plastic ziplock bags and stuff them in the Club Glove.  Makes the bag heavy but I always got extra weight on Delta for being lifetime Gold Medallion.  I could probably get by now with the Burst Proof since I won't be traveling for business anymore.  I got the Burst Proof for my wife and it works better for a small bag and still has some room for clothes.

Years ago, a friend of mine had a hard sided golf bag.  The top latched on covering the clubs for travel.  Take the top off and put the bag on a cart and head for the first tee!  It worked pretty well, but the clubs rattled in the hard plastic and there wasn't much room in the bag.  Not sure if it would work with the 460 cc drivers.

Oh no.... "ABOUT ten years"? Is that nine years, eight months or ten years, four months? Last I heard, you can't estimate a decade! Haha!

  • 1 year later...

Has anyone seen the Club Glove collegiate. According to the website it is $250, so cheaper than the traditional Last bag of $320. I use a stand bag currently and will for the foreseeable future.

https://www.clubglove.com/Newproduct/10149072/

I can also get a reasonable deal on this bag so if anyone has any experience with it I am all ears.

I"m using the Collegiate now -- nice bag, very snug with my carry bag, but it'll fit the bag, shoes, etc.  A couple of small holes have developed in the back that i'm not happy with - have only been using it since January.  Granted I use it a lot, but still...

Has anyone tried shipping clubs with FedEx? Supposedly cheaper than 2-way baggage fees, and I would imagine they are far more careful with your clubs than airline luggage handlers. Apparently, you can just drop off your bag and they pack them in a box for you. Likely not as secure as a club glove, but again, they are probably much more delicate with the box than the airline. Not having to truck a bag through the airport would also be nice.

Have never done that -- Gold/Platinum status with Delta gets me free baggage, so it hasn't been an issue.  Have only had 2 issues in 10 years of traveling with clubs, but both were resolved quickly by the airline.  I use a Stiff Arm in the travel bag - it's an absolute MUST.

I flew to San Diego in March. It was actually cheaper to use delta then ship with anybody else. $100 round trip. I think fedex was $200 or so.

I have been using an old PGA Tour partners Travel Bag.......it's great because the carry on luggage that came with it all straps to the wheeled bag making it easy to get thru the airports.

I have two Bag-Boy brand travelers. My current is a hard shell protective top with canvas body. Has two large zipper pockets. It's ok and has held up well for the past 2-3 trips I've used it. This bag also collapses down to a rather small footprint of approx. 2'x2'x2'. My other is a hard shell bag meant to replace your actual golf bag. You put your clubs in it and when you arrive at the course - remove the top and wallah! A golf bag. I has a strap-on removable set of pockets for tees, balls ,etc. It's so-so I'd say. I've always been leery of the removable top because the locking straps seem a little iffy. I'll loan it out but I'm through with it. Both models have wheels. Over all I think I'd prefer a good quality soft canvas bag. I like carrying my stand bag everywhere I go.

My Sun Mountain bag currently includes:   TWGTLogo2.png.06c802075f4d211691d88895b3f34b75.png 771CSI 5i - PW and TWGTLogo2.png.06c802075f4d211691d88895b3f34b75.png PFC Micro Tour-c 52°, 56°, 60 wedges

I have the 2014 Ogio Creature travel bag, lil costly, but protecting over 1000.00 in clubs plus golf bag, I didn't grumble to much on cost.

This bag held my staff bag nicely. And using a Stiff arm is a must.

Also, if traveling, remove any of your wood heads for safety.

Club Glove Burst Proof I've had since approx 2003. It's been awesome, including one trip back to CG for a rebuild. Highly recommended! Lots of tour pros using CG.

It's pretty clear that Club Glove is the best bag. Not even close in terms of reviews of other manufacturers options. Just wish these things weren't over $300. Maybe find a deal somewhere.

I've had my Club Glove for over 10 years.  It cost $250 when I bought it.  It's starting to show quite a bit of wear, but it's probably flown over 50K miles so it should!!
