What Have You Bought Lately? (CHA - Club Ho's Anonymous)

DRIVER DRAMA!!! Where to begin...I bought a used Cobra F6+ Driver from my local shop. Hit it on the range then played with it. After a few holes my buddy said it sounded funny. Started looking at it and it was cracked right by where the hosel meets the club head. Had a few drinks and bought a used Callaway Paradym for $300 from 2ndSwing.com online. Had it shipped to my job. Opened the box and examined it and there was a crack in what I thought was just the finish. Took it to my local shop when I went to return the Cobra and my buddy verified the Callaway was also cracked. While I was there a kid traded in a Cobra Rad Speed. My store credit for the first Cobra and $5.14 later I walked out with a super mint Cobra Rad Speed.

I had a TM M6 and now a Stealth and liked them both…only reason I moved on from the M6 is I got a great deal on the Stealth.

Looking more for off the tee or off the turf? I hit my buddy's BRNR Mini Driver last week and the thing is amazing (at 13.5*, it's basically a 3w replacement, and I think the loft can be cranked up a bit) -- but that's really a tee club, not sure how it will do off the turf (and, uhh...I might or might not have one showing up  at the house today...).

For easy to hit, Tour Edge is often a good option, and they have a range of reasonably-priced options -- I haven't hit their newest models, but some from a couple years ago were great (I always lean toward Exotics, E-series would be easier to hit than C, but they also have some "easier" / higher handicap models outside of the Exotics line).

I’ll 2nd this! I have the 11.5 but I play it in the upright 13.5 setting and it’s great off the tee and off the deck. To be fair I don’t use it off the deck as I like using my 5 wood mostly. The handful of times I have used it off the deck the results have been solid!

I’ve got a bad feeling about this.

Welp, it's here. Custom shafts would've delayed delivery by over a month, so I just went stock retro ProForce (looks sick, but likely not gonna work). Current plan is to swap in my 3w shaft, which is 0.5" shorter (but I bet that's ok). Will probably pick out a 44" (0.25" longer) driver shaft in the near future. PXL_20240620_024107159.jpg.2e1977aef06ecb98c35520a352c33cf5.jpg

Can't go copper without some actual flashback/retro pics too, right?? Well, the classic move with the Burner was to turn the cover inside out: PXL_20240620_024241032_MP.jpg.5ed2350c652d7bfa3a613d0b67b1f835.jpg

And then, even though today it's "mini", proof that it's still quite large when comparing to the inspiration (can't believe this was the standard when I started playing HS golf - 40 is really starting to sink in):

The Stealth2 5 wood fitting head I got on eBay came in and I was able to sneak into PGASS before they closed last night and hit a few compared to my current Triple Diamond 5 wood. I had it turned down 1 click on loft to reduce the spin and open the face a little and early returns "especially given it has a 50g senior flex that is not optimized for me" look like it is going to give me exactly what I was wanting of same #'s with a little more forgiveness. IMG_3178.jpeg.83697d351f79b89cab79d8a6bb29d2aa.jpeg

So now the question is since it looks so promising do I go ahead and put a Taylormade tip on my TPT shaft or do I try the Roymade all-fit tip I got on amazon so I can try both heads in the same shaft before deciding 🤔

I purchased a pair of Nike air max 270 golf shoes last year! Well the air bubble in one of the shoes popped!🙈 (out of warranty by 3 months). So Nike gave me a discount on a new pair so I purchased a pair of spikes and then since MyGolfSpy talked up the Adidas Codechaos 22 I purchased those to have a pair of Spikeless.! Love the look and feel of both. I have always worn Nike but go to give Adidas a try!

Instead of spending money to buy wedges to get the proper gap between clubs, I already owned an exact backup unit of my favorite wedge, so, I had local fitter bend one of them up 2 degrees and the other one bend down 2 degrees, so now I have 4 degree gaps from the PW of my iron set, to one wedge and another 4 degrees to its otherwise identical model.  I bought the backup unit years ago for dirt cheap and sat on it til my brain finally kicked in.  I bet some of you low hdcp regulars who have wedge sets for years will get a chuckle out of this.  (Mizuno S5 from 2018, 52 deg x 9 bounce.)  I have now hit the green or fringe about 10 of the 11 shots since my stroke of  "pure genius".  And now I probably won't buy a wedge for 2 or 3 years.  Maybe even longer, if I send these to IronFactory to re-groove after a lot of use.   Sorry, no Vokey, Cleveland, or Indi.

How long did it take you to get the stuff from LAB? I ordered a DF 2.1 headcover on the 11th and last time I checked it hadn't even shipped yet, per shop.com.

To the guy who got the Yamaha clubs: I didn't even know they made clubs. And looking at their website I see why. They only have one distributor and like 20 authorized dealers in the entire country, and most of those are in southern Cali or in Florida.

Yeah its one of those companies that is big in Japan but not so much America. All mine came from US Golf Partners which is based in Japan, however, every time I order from them, it arrives in under 5 days. Cant recommend them more. Also, their forged irons are forged by Endo

It was quite quick, I ordered immediately when the initial drop happened but I think I might have been front of the queue. They also sent it via Fedex because I am international so it was fast, but pretty pricey.

Picked up one of those Golf Pride Reverse Taper putter grips to try .. Pistol/Medium. Felt good in the hands and fingers - well at least in the store!

Three different people recently mentioned to me that the larger grip I've been using may not be beneficial for me, so what the heck I'm willing to experiment. TBD

Just ordered the Shot Scope CONNEX Mobile Tracking Tags. I really wanted the Garmins but they're just so much more expensive and I've read some of the testers issues with them. I'm curious to see what I like better, the $700 Garmin Approach S70 watch or $100 CONNEX tracking tags. I did get a really good deal on the tags through a work affiliation program.

I hit the Cobra LTDx a while back and loved how it felt and performed, waited for the Darkspeed to come out to bring pricing down a bit and "built my own" through marketplace. Someone was selling a hzdrus smoke stiff shaft (currently game this in my Mizuno) a few months ago because their driver head broken and they just wanted to get rid of it, so snagged it for $25. I've been waiting for a driver head at the right price and one finally popped up on marketplace today. Jumped all over it and now have my own self-built cobra ltdx driver set-up for under $100. I've got a 9 hole round this evening and it is going straight into the bag to try out.

This same set-up at my local golf equipment store is going for $219 brand new

Thanks! Just bought curtain rod brackets and it has worked great. They are my great grandpas, so this way they get some good use rather than collecting dust
