Gotta see where they are on the field as well. If you don’t have the best kicker, go for it on 4th. If you cant be stopped, go for it on 4th. If its not enough field for a decent punt, go for it on 4th.

Pretty simple if you ask me.

I suspect its more about having to constantly live in the shadow of Tuscaloosa. Also, I watched most of the game and didn't feel like Auburn ran the score up as much as Purdue simply didn't show up.

Michigan was weak, in a VERY weak Big Ten this year. They get excited beating Purdue, Northwestern, Rutgers, Maryland, etc. 1-9 vs Top 10 teams under Harbaugh. There is a false-sense of “good/great” when one beats teams that really aren’t good. MSU, Ohio State, Penn State were all under par this year, and it didn’t take 2 minutes of watching them all to see it. Welcome back to Earth, UofM, and Big Ten fans.

Oklahoma has UCF's spot.  The Knights were the fourth undefeated team.

What's the difference? College football is a disgrace imho.

They took an extracurricular activity and turned it into a big business.

College basketball is even worse.

There should not be a single person playing intercollegiate sports who's not a legitimate baccalaureate candidate.

I can't stand it when they interview a player and he sounds illiterate.

They don't teach grammar in college.

You're supposed to have it down before you can get in.

Higher education shouldn't debase itself that way.  It doesn't exist to be a developmental league for pro sports.

If UCF beats LSU then maybe it's a conversation. All the experts agree. Dont play good teams, don't get to compete with good teams. Undefeated or not.

Butttt if they take down LSU in a decisive manner, Then maybe they have a better chance next year. Really it doesn't matter. The precedent has been set and until they join a power 5 conference or change their schedule they will never get in because of it.

Clemson’s 2nd string is owning Notre Shame’s starters. What a joke this is.

Please, force Notre Shame to join a football conference before they are ever even considered for post season competition ever again. I hear the MAC is a good fit for them. Heck, they wouldn’t even win their division in the MAC.

This isn't pro sports. In the pros, if you go undefeated vs if your team goes 0-16 there is maybe a 5-10% talent gap between those 2 teams despite their opposite records. All of those guys are professionals and were studs on their college teams. Some of the best college athletes of their time.

 

It doesn't work like that in college. Talent profiles vary WILDLY. UCF deserves no shot at being in a playoff with the big boys until they play even a half decent schedule. They play nobody all season. Their talent profile is 56th in the country. That's behind teams such as Vandy and BYU. Sure, they run a good scheme and system. They develop what talent they do get nicely, but they are nowhere close to the playoff teams that have a chance.

No playoff team has won a playoff game and had a talent profile outside of the top 25. Hell I can't remember one outside of the top 10.

Teams like UCF only have around 60% of the talent that teams like OSU and Alabama have. 40% difference in talent is too much to overcome on a consistent basis.

There are only about 15 or so teams every year that even really have a chance to win a national championship bc of their talent levels.

 

 

Like it or not but that is the reality of college football. Maybe the G5 should have their own playoff and champ but unless they can massively upgrade their schedules and recruiting every single year, they don't deserve a spot in the playoff.

Ah hindsight... It's a real B this time of year in the college bowl season.

Michigan was a 4 point favorite so even folks in Vegas were fooled... And they're usually pretty good at predicting this stuff. Clemson was a 10 point favorite and the O/U was 58.

Some teams come in prepared and ready to go and others are out of sync... Kind of like this OU team right now. Bama's defense is crazy good but Murray has nothing to work with.

Frankly, this is really embarassing for the playoff committee. You’ve got a handful of teams NOT in the playoffs that would have at least shown up against either Clemson or Alabama.

Not sure what cfb can do to level the field but bama shows no sign of slowing down, number 1 class year after year..

Knowing what we know now, Clearly Georgia should be in the playoffs.

To be fair though. The playoff committee can only know so much. Had Georgia only had 1 loss and had beat Florida, then they likely would have been there. As an Alabama alumni and lifetime fan, even I was concerned about the OK Offense given Murray and the points they put up. I agree it's disappointing, but im not sure I would have made any different decisions based on the information available.

Before tonight. I wasn't even sure Clemson deserved to be there given their opponents this season. Notre Dame played a tougher schedule than they did.

At least they scored a touchdown and did it in the first quarter. Their D sucks but their O should score some.

That's the first class not number 1 since 2011, and they were 5th. They are number 1 in 2019 by mile over number 2 Georgia

Bowl games are just a vacation trip for most of these teams. Unless you are in the CFP... it’s a meaningless game. Sure you get extra practice and one more shot to let your recruits see you play. But what does it do for you if you’re not in the final 4?

They need to figure something out.

It will be the same 6 teams rotating through year after year in the playoffs.

I’ll be watching the Rose Bowl because of the history.

And I’ll probably watch the NC...

But aside from today I haven’t watched a single other game.

Just remember, 2 of the 4 CFP champions were a 4 seed. We can bash ND and OU all you want but Bama and tOSU are very thankful for the last spot in the playoff.

When all of your defensive line except for 1 guy decides they aren’t going to play, and then your only decent running back decides he ain’t playing either, what do you expect is going to happen in the game. As a fan I don’t like that players are allowed to sit out the bowl games, but I do understand why they don’t play. As a fan it’s difficult because you want your team to win, but these guys could lose multi millions of dollars if they were to get injured in a game that means nothing to their college career.
