Odds on a WD is at 7-2.

And I believe top 10 finish in a field of 18 is at 11-2.

The best thing that could happen to golf is for Tiger to just go away.

He'll never be what he was, now he's nothing more then a punch drunk fighter coming back for one more shot.

In what way would it be best for golf?

Obviously golf and a big percentage of the golfing world is still interested in Tiger. I understand if some people can't put aside their feelings about his personal life, but I just want to watch Tiger the golfer.

All of us have things in our lives we aren't proud of.... and hope no one ever finds out about... if we're honest about it. I'm sure a lot of us wouldn't fare any better than Tiger if we were under the social microscope like today's athletes are.

I wonder what we would know about some of the greatest golfers of the past if they were subjected to the same scrutiny and technology of today?

Wow-

The negative comments !

Tiger was the best thing that ever happened to the game.

He was the second most dominant player ever- and that's while playing against a tougher field in general than before- and it also spawned the current crop of players, of which probably any one of the top 30 could win.

CAn he win? I dunno-can Phil?

Will the cameras be on him? Like stink on Poo they will.

Let's hope he doesn't have an “injury”, and can just be in the mix.

Remember, this guy wasn't just your average pro..

He was “the man”... for a decade at least...

I know Tiger WAS one of the best things that happened for the game and I don't try to deny it, but does current performance justify the amount of exposure he is going to get?

I have a personality flaw - I despise when the media tell me who I should like and want to see and it ultimately makes me not really like the person, even though it is not their fault. Michael Jordan in his prime was the same for me. I respected the hell out of his abilities, but hated having him pushed in my face everyday (especially being a Blazer fan and you could never see any news about them outside the NW, because too much time was being spent verbally felating MJ). Tiger was over-exposed, in my opinion, and now guys like Jordan Spieth are on that trajectory and it irritates me.

Just my opinion, your mileage may vary.

Took the words right out of my mouth. The "cheated on wife and substance abuse" narrative is insanely common today, and because he was once the best golfer in the world, we expect him not to be human? I bet more than half of us can name someone from our personal lives who have done the same. There are guys who never win at all on tour, in their entire career, yet no one calls them a scrub when they lose or miss a cut. The comments will be "he's done well just to make it here" for those guys, but since we're so accustomed to Tiger crushing everyone, it changes when he loses? People saying he should just give up entirely? How does that make any sense when you have 0 comments about the guy who is scraping by barely earning his card every year?

How was Tiger good for the game as far as the average, once a week golfer is concerned?

Sent from my SM-N950U using MyGolfSpy mobile app

Tiger made golf cool for people my age. Didn't matter if you hadn't ever played golf before, you knew who he was. Crossfield said it in his "tiger's back" vlog the other day -- to some people he literally IS golf.

His personal choices were unfortunate to hear of, but I'm far from perfect myself. He's still the GOAT in my eyes since I never really watched Jack or Arnie, and I doubt I'll ever name someone else in my lifetime as GOAT.

How many average, once a week golfers do you think would be playing right now, if it wasn't for the presence of Tiger on the tour?

The less the better.

During the Tiger hay day everyone who could afford a red shirt and TW black hat were clogging the munis, making it harder to get a tee time and when you did, rounds lasted 5 hours.

Tiger came on tour with set goals (including beat Jack) and almost got there before failing miserably. Although he had injuries, he didn't fail because of them, he failed because of as lack of character.

Not a hero or someone to root for as far as I'm concerned.

I suppose that depends on what side of the counter you are on in the club house. All the people that make a living from golf would probably  disagree with you.... teachers, equipment salesmen, equipment manufacturers, golf course owners, golf course employees, etc....

I have news for you. It's a decade plus past Tiger's run, and the munis are still clogged and take 5 hours to play a round. Maybe you have the coin to pony up $75+ every time you play, but I don't. Less players equals more expensive greens fees.

I'll just leave it at that and bow out of this thread.

I can't wait to see him in action again, I'm a pretty big fan of Tigers and I really hope he plays well and is able to compete.

I enjoy the new era of golf allot but the Tiger era was the most exciting period in my lifetime, it seemed like shotmaking between a bunch of golfers back then was incredible, I'm also anxious to see the TV ratings as well vs ratings without him.

To emphasize Kory's point, just watch this video. As Eric is trying to find a course in India, he's asking the locals if they play golf. When they don't understand, he says "Tiger Woods?" People who don't play and barely understand English know the name Tiger Woods

Not only did Tiger expose the game to the young crop of American players, he became an international icon that spurred the growth of the game throughout the world.

Here's my take on Tiger: I have NO idea what he's like, personally. Never met him, never hung-out, never talked to him. All I know is his marriage ended, he has some kids, he's dated around, and in interviews on tv he seemed to not want to answer the tough questions. Having made a billion, he's probably just a LITTLE egotistical. Just a guess. But...

I SURRRRRRRRRRRRRE love watching the REAL Tiger play golf!!!! He was pretty good... Now, will he EVER come close to how he was? No idea. My mind says it's doubtful. But if his body would let him just COMPETE, I think it would be awesome, and I will DEFINITELY watch!!!!

Different strokes for different folks. I'd much rather watch Jordan Spieth and Dustin Johnson duel it out then some old has been.

Pretty sad that at 41 he's an old has been. Karma truly is a female dog.

It's not a secret that I have never been any kind of fan of Tiger. For him, getting back on the course will give him a chance to leave it the way that he should have, the way Arnie, Jack, Player and Trevino did. As for him playing well, it will take time. I like watching Golf the way it is now, we get to see a bunch of different guys every week, I fear that with Tiger on the course again, the media will revert back to the way they used to, where we see 100% of Tiger and barely anything from anyone else.

  • 3 weeks later...

I'm sure we've all seen this article but here it is for those that haven't. Brad Faxon talks about the round he just played in with Tiger, Trump, and DJ.

My biggest wowza was that he said Tiger actually hit some balls past DJ with driver.
