I'll start out with my excuses . Yesterday at league was my 3rd time out and still getting use to Bermuda greens . In our league - no breakfast balls, no gimmes and play the ball down - even though the grass is wet and they just mowed the fairways. Ok with those excuses out of the way, with the exception of a birdie on the first par 3, the other 3 par 3's were followed by a bogie, a double and a triple . Of course the birdie, which came to rest 2' from the hole wasn't one of the CTP holes .  Par 3's WTH? I generally count  on par 3's as my scoring holes. On the other hand my driver was on fire! I love my SIM 2 MAX D, when I got back home I gave it some extra attention.

Today I shot a 41/44:85 at my home club, Plantation Palms.  My handicap index is 18, course Hcap is 15.

My score 85 - CH 15 = 70 less Course Par 72 = -2 with 8 net birdies and longest drive was 194 yards.

I went out this late afternoon to play a quick 9 - turns out the course was wide open and was able to play 18 in my allotted time (before dark).  

Got off to a bit of a slow start, but scrambled to a 39 on the front with one of the best drives I have hit all year - 287 yards.  left me a flip wedge in, but missed my birdie putt.  8 pars and a bogey on the back for a 37.  I made some SERIOUS par saving putts on the way to that 37.

We have 12 scores posted so far this week, and looking forward to a weekend of scores to start rolling in as we look to place the MGS Forum Black Jacket on this week's winner. 

 

@GolfSpy_APHhas been wearing his jacket proudly from Week 2's competition.  

 

Currently in a commanding lead for Week 3 is @MattF with a 9 under round of 61 net at Windmill Lakes GC, posting 10 net birdies or better in the process.  It will take a phenomenal round to top him. 

 

Closely behind at 8 under par net 64 playing Moody Gardens GC is @daviddvm.  

 

@fozcycleis currently in 2nd place for net birdies or better - posting 8 net birdies or better on his way to a 2 under round of net 70 at Plantation Palms GC. 

 

Long drive leader is our current Week 2 champion @DiscipleofPenickwith a towering 312 yard drive measured at Cossett Creek while shooting a very respectable round of 3 under par - net 69.

Played in a different group today, I stunk up the front - a lost ball on one hole didn't help, I came back a bit stronger on the back, although on one par 5 I hit my drive behind a tree, I punched it out but into a bunker  ended up with a 7 on it. On the next, a par 4,  I came back with a par. The magic is starting to come back on the par 3's = bogie, par, par, par.

Good day chipping and pitching, ballstriking was so so. Three doubles killed me, two bogies, one birdie. I did something I've never seen on a course before: plugged a ball on a dry green! #13 is a short (122 today) hole with a big drop tee to green. I hit a really nice gap wedge right at the pin, and it landed about 4 feet under the hole in a huge puff of sand. The greens were aerated three weeks ago, and I found one of the bigger holes! Marked it, fixed it, and made the putt for my only birdie.

California GC, Cincinnati, OH White tees, 69.2/117, par 70, 7.7 index, so course handicap of 6. Shot a 77 (net +1). One gross birdie and three net birdies, longest drive of 257.

Waited out a frost delay to play in 24+mph winds plus gusts; four layers on top and two layers on the bottom. Fall Golf… Started out bogey, bogey, double; and thought about stopping after nine, but glad I stuck it out as I shot a 38 on the back for an 80. My season is rapidly coming to a close.

Missed out last week but I'm back! Played Tierra Verde which just re-opened last week after renovations. Had a pretty phenomenal front nine and a so-so back to shoot 85 (+13). Course Handicap is 11 and longest drive of the day was 294 according to Shot Scope.

 

 

Playing again on Monday so hopefully I can continue doing what I did well today, correct the bad, and post a strong score early for Week 4!

Makes me wonder how it would have reacted if not for the sanded greens... from your description, it might have spun back leaving you a longer putt? or bounced forward toward the hole... but a nice 4 footer for birdie is a great outcome!

Not too bad. They must have put down quite a bit of sand before laying down the new sod for the greens because they were surprisingly spongey - like you could feel it when you were walking. The new billy bunkers look fantastic but will be quite fluffy until the new sand compacts a bit. Other than that the course is in fantastic shape. They supposedly made some of the greens a bit larger as well, but I didn't really notice.
