Good morning! Nothing but work today, but going to practice tomorrow morning at our club while my wife participates in a Ladies' NTG (New to Golf) Clinic and then play 9 in the afternoon with a buddy! The latter makes the former bearable!

TGIF, Spies. Threat of rain all day here in Central NJ. Still contemplating whether I want to brave the weather, or take a day off from golf. Yesterday was going to be a day off, but Oncore Elixirs came for the forum review so I spent an hour indoors on Trackman.

Somehow I got poison ivy on my arm, all around the ring where I wear my shock doctor elbow band. I think I used my dirty glove hand to adjust the band on my arm, sticking my glove fingers inside and then spreading it all around my arm.

So for the past couple days haven't worn the shock doctor to avoid aggravating the rash. Happy to report I no longer need it. I was bombing the ball yesterday with no discomfort. 60 swings plus a simulated 18 holes. I can now ditch the crutch and feel confident I have a full assortment of ligaments once again.

I love it! My hallway was always a lane for me as a kid too, I had 2 liter bottles and a ball that I used like crazy, haha. It wasn't a school sport here, I just had to compete locally and then got my name and scores to a recruiting agency and let them do the work. When my favorite school was interested I jumped at the opportunity.

Oh jez, I didn't even know that was something you could do! He hasn't been super interested in team sports yet (but he's only 6 🤣) but he definitely has gravitated more towards individual sports. I played some baseball in college, and the high school golf season is the same as baseball, so that could be a tough one once we have to cross that bridge because he does like t-ball haha

If he's like me, he'll play baseball until the first coach who likes to channel his aggression from a decade of being emasculated by his wife into a fungo bat starts ripping 1 hoppers at his face.

That combined with the push ups in goose crap, uh that's a no from me dog.

Turns out my friends who played organized golf were hanging out in the woods after school every day. Now we're talking.

Isn't it unreal how many truly awful people coach youth sports? I had some crap ones, too. Almost quit baseball before high school because of a coach, but then the varsity coach talked me into playing after the season had started my freshman year. 4 years later I was a three year letter winner and all-conference pitcher and headed to play college ball. My varsity baseball coach still to this day is one of the most impactful and influential people for me that I have been around.

Yeah it attracts both extremes as a profession. A lot of very kind and unselfish people are drawn to coaching, and also a lot of police-academy-drop-out disciplinarian types who wanted to lift weights and boss people around. Gym teacher/JV coach were some of my least favorite people in the various schools I went to. Authoritarian, but on what authority? You got the rules of soccer wrong, bruh. You have the girls with medical excuses grading your tests, guy.

I see it all around me. I'm not usually one to pat my own back, but I'm proud of how I coach these kids. I'm a super laidback person that loves kids. I can't grasp how anyone can treat kids the way they do as coaches. I'm as competitive as they come but I started coaching my nephew at 3 years old and he just turned 9. I've coached baseball, basketball, and football. Every year the draft sheet is full of requests to be with me or one other guy because we emphasize fun, improving, and the important things.  We turn out to be pretty dang good too because there's no pressure to perform. It's unreal how much pressure some of these younger kids get put on them from coaches and parents. I also coach a travel baseball team over the summer and it's even worse then. I grew up watching my dad coach me and my sister in sports and to this day grown adults that he coached will come running over to shake his hand or hug him because of the impact he made and that's exactly how I want to be.

Man we finally got above 20 here in Penticton, was actually able to have coffee out on the deck this morning after a little chi-gong. Robin's in the yard, chickadees in the trees, and I can't see my breath anymore! Now that it's 10:45, I'm afraid I'm gonna sweat at the range later hahahaj

Yes, one million times over YES. I coached high school basketball here in Reedsburg for 5 years when we moved here as the varsity assistant and my number one priority was always relationship building first and foremost. When the kids like you, you make it fun and you show them you care by getting to know them, you are way more successful than if you’re just hard nosed and cruel. You laugh with them, sweat with them, cry with them, all the emotions. You could be the smartest guy in the room but they won’t give two craps if you treat them poorly. I often found with my high school guys, I was able to be critical and self admittedly harsh when needed, but it was always taken in a way by the players that they knew it was what they needed. That was uncommon for me as well. I’ve got kids still to this day that I’ll make plans with every summer now that they are in college to golf, get lunch, be a job reference, etc. I love coaching and can’t wait to get back into it when my kids get into organized sports.

We passed through Penticton several times on trips from WA to Manning Provincial Park, Kamloops, 50 Mile House and Merritt. That's a cool town and region has some of the best lake fishing I've experienced. I could go on at nauseum with fly fishing stories, but this is a golfing forum so I'll refrain... well, unless ya'll want to hear them 😆.

Well, the more I play golf, the less of a contest (as to which I like better) it becomes 🤣. I can say without hesitation that I'm way more skilled with a fly rod than any club in my bag.

Well, the more I play golf, the less of a contest (as to which I like better) it becomes 🤣. I can say without hesitation that I'm way more skilled with a fly rod than any club in my bag.

Have you ever gone to Ennis MT around Labor Day? The last time I was through there around that time they have a really big Fly Fishing Tournament? My next door neighbour in Colorado was highly ranked in the world of Fly Fishing(from what I understand). He and his wife were always in their front yard casting to tires all over their yard and through tires hanging from their trees.

Awesome!!!! I don't encounter a ton of people who have been to the Okanagan Valley! Whether Washington or BC. Manning Park is one of my favourite areas, the wildfire last year did some serious damage to it but they are working on it, the flood the year prior took out a ton of camp sites too. If you're ever near Merritt again, they have the best golf course in BC and #13 in Canada and there is Kentucky-Aleyne Provincial park there with the craziest crystal blue/turquoise lakes. It's absolutely stunning, I don't know if fishing is allowed but it's worth the stop

So sad to hear about Manning PP.  The various western wildfires have been pretty devastating to many great places. We went there several times in late 80's early 90's, and hiked the Lightening, Strike, Flash and Thunder Lakes trail. We usually rented a canoe and spent a day along the shoreline of Lightening Lake.  Ever spent an entire day in a canoe with a perpetually sopping wet Golden Retriever?  Very memorable but not highly recommended 😆.

They have a Fly Fishing/Outdoor Festival most years and I think one of the fly shops hosts a "one fly" tournament.  Ennis was about a 25 minute drive from our place.  Most times I went there I was either hauling my drift boat or my clubs.  There were a few times I thought about trying a short float and golf round the same day... but for a retired guy that sounded like work 😊.

Top of the pot spies ☕.  Temps are on the rise here in AZ after what was a much cooler than normal winter. It's forecasted to be 101F on Sunday.  The common "but it's a dry heat" retort from Arizonian's is mostly true.  I've been over to our practice areas in the midday and late afternoons with temps in the high 90's and it's not bad at all - especially if there is a light breeze.  It is kind of weird going out around 2100, to let River do his business, and have temps 80F... often our daytime highs back in MT.

We'll, after 3 PT sessions on my back, it's only marginally better.  Generally feels fine but reaggravated after swinging the long sticks 🤕.  The PT doesn't think repeating what we've been doing is the right path, so he's referred me to a back/spine specialist - one's who's well known but hard to get into see. I opted to stop by the office (instead of just calling) to get the paperwork. After giving the lady my best sad puppy dog eyes, she said they had a cancellation next Friday for the 0700 slot 👍.  Have a great Friday all.

Bill, we just got home from a golf tournament… long day!  It’s after 8pm and it’s still 75º outside, and tomorrow will be in the low 90’s.  We went from cold to hot in 3 days!  I prefer the dry heat to the dry cold any day!!  😆

We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

Good morning everyone! I hope the weekend is off to a good start to every one of you.

Had a bit of a scare last night. I was out eating with friends when I get a phone call from my wife that she has called an ambulance because her heart rate is pounding at 160 bpm. She has heart issues and is actually has been wearing a monitor for the last week. She tells me not to come home and to meet her in a bit at the E.R.. I'm freaking out.

A few minutes later, she calls me back and lets me know she has seen the E.M.T.'s and things had calmed down and that she had decided to not go to the hospital because the medical personnel told her that her vitals were only slightly elevated.

She had taken her heart medication, metoprolol, and gotten her rate down to 105 by the time I got home.

She seems to be doing well this morning, she was sleeping soundly when I had to wake up for work. Lately, I have been volunteering for Saturday work but today was a volun-told. Cars have to be built.

I'm thankful my sister-in-law lives with us and can keep an eye on her.

I hope all goes well for your wife.  I had a similar experience on the golf course a couple of years ago.   My heart wouldn’t slow down.  I won’t go into all the details but one thing I have done since is stay hydrated and cut back on caffeine.  If your wife is a caffeine person like I was have her cut back and make sure she is getting plenty of water.  Also, an Apple Watch will give her the ability to monitor heart rate and also take an ecg.  She can show the ecg to the medical personnel if she ever has a recurrence.

Good morning friends from a gloomy chilly WNY so says the forecast that features rain starting after noon for this weekend.  Hot Lady Grey orange pekoe tea in the mug ☕ keeping it sunny and warm within and arm reach of this side of the keyboard.  Today will include meeting with other PGA HOPE Secretary's Cup team members from the WNY PGA HOPE section for photo op preparing for the May 13-15 weekend tournament.  In 2 weeks that adventure will be in full swing.
