Thank you! One three putt and one hooked drive away from real excellence today! Sometimes the game is easy and sometimes it is like the first day at school. However, days like today make it worth it!

Crushed it yesterday! By the time I got to the course, the wind died down and the weather was great. Spent some time working on stuff on the range to warm up. Tried my best to heed my coach's advice to leave swing thoughts and stuff I'm working on at the range. Just go out and play my game.

The course was busy and they let us sneak out on the back. I have a habit (superstition?) of not looking at my card/app during the round. Of course I have to look at it if I'm scoring on an physical scorecard but I try to not look at my previous holes.

Well, that went out the window yesterday. I had to have a peek. I knew I was in a good spot and I needed to know. Wooo 2 under!!!! What happens next, I get in my head about I "have" to keep up this rhythm and what do you know, I send my drive far left and high into the wind to leave myself about 250 yds to the green on a par 4. I hit the best 3w I could have but still fell about 5 yds short of the green. Duffed the chip but my putting was able to salvage the single pock mark on my card.

Anyways, none of that matters. I shot my best score ever and accomplished my 2023 goal of breaking par! Now I need to shave just 1 more point off to get that "under 70 badge". 😄

I know it's been asked before but I feel like gripping a bit. So what are the conditions like at this course these days? Not great. Still rock hard and fast greens. "Fairways" are coming in. I used quoted because our fairways are 95% weeds and all the bermuda grass is dead. Not dormant, dead. So it's patchy weeds that will also die off in a couple weeks when we don't maintain the amount of rain we've had recently. Otherwise, it's a really neat course and fun to play. Challenging but fun.

I started taking a safe play on #5 recently. From the back tees I'm less tempted since there is no clearing in the trees. On that last round, I wanted to be a bit aggressive and went with the 3W instead of my hybrid. There was just enough wind above the trees that I thought I went long on that tee shot but man did I kill it. Dead straight too! 301 total with a little downhill run. That second shot was an 8i for 226 (again I landed it around 160 or so but it ran down the hill).

Course management has been a big thing for me lately. Especially this hole, taking the "safe" route 9/10 gives you the same if not better result compared to trying to drive it super long to get a chance at being on in 2. Most of the time,  have to lay up anyways. Might as well put myself in a position that I can get aggressive on my 3rd shot and look for birdie.

But yeah, that ball might need to be retired after this round. 🤣

First round of season 2 was a good, but very strange.

image.png.f7de2502dcea30aac55dc500c5b4dbdd.png

Our hole 8 sort of sums up the day.  It's a 146 yard par 3 over mangroves with bunkers in front and behind a narrow green.  I miss hit my tee shot into the mangroves.  I took the penalty, dropped in the designated drop zone and proceeded to chip the ball in for a par.  I chipped in on another par three as well.  On nine, I actually ricocheted a long putt off another ball that wasn't anywhere near my line 10 ft into the hole.  No greens in regulations, but only 24 putts (two holes with zero putts) and seven ups and downs.  I did however double bogey the hardest AND the easiest holes!  My long drive was 213 yards.  Of course Shot Scope doesn't know it was cart path aided!

Welcome to season 2!

Good putting round, but the highlight was an 18" putt for 14 skins on the last hole.

I hoping to get 3 rounds in this week, but the course conditions still suck for good scores.

Only Tuesday and we already have 10 rounds posted????  Maybe I set the 40 goal too low!!! 🙂

I submitted incorrectly. I hit submit before I edited.  Score shows me -13 for gross which should be +9.  I don’t know how to fix this. Can you help?

Just want to be sure I have your score correct.

Denton Country Club is a Par 71.  You shot 91 Gross.  Your course handicap is 11.  So Your net score is 80, which is 9 strokes over par.

Is that your score?  (I feel like a magician pulling your card from the deck... is THIS your card???)  haha.

Par is 71.  My score was 80.  Course HC 11. Gross over was +9.   Net to par -2.  Net score 69.  Net birdies 7.  Long drive 285.  I fat fingered the whole thing and hit submit without paying attention.  My apologies.

I guess I'm no magician. haha.  Take a look at your score above, is that correct now?  I misunderstood when you said you were +9... I thought you meant net.

I so want to play...but the snow melts one day and it's back the next.  Our Men's association had our opening social last Wednesday, but at this rate we won't be playing for another couple weeks.  Our course is up on the bench and still under snow! And it's snowing right now again. 😂

New picture from today...and I only live a block from the course.  Looking forward to the Icebreaker tournament in July 😜

Girlfriend had lessons again so was able to get in a Back 9 to round off my Front 9 earlier. I tee'd off in front of her ladies lesson group and absolutely topped it and hit the water 40 yards in front of the box... Tee'd off again and ended up barely getting it over the water, I mentally settled in for a rough round, but then I grabbed my 3 wood and once again it told my driver to sit back and watch and it launched an absolutely rocket up to the fringe on the green! After that the round went great! The drives were abysmal but putting was on fire, irons were healthy, hit the green side bunkers a couple times but didn't even slow me down. What got me were the Par 3's. The wind was absolutely ripping and both Par 3s were facing into the 18 mph winds with 30 mph gusts (Woohoo Kansas). I just flat out couldn't reach the green, and then I would be clawing my way onto it, double bogey'd both of them sadly. Then just fell apart on hole 18, no idea what happened, drive was decent but everything was falling short. Wasn't the way I wanted to end but sometimes it just happens. Still felt like a great round overall!

A week ago I could see the grass on my front lawn...tonight it's looks like mid-winter again.  Over 2 feet deep.  Could probably build a snow cave since i can't golf.  Our Men's sent out sign ups for our first tournament, the IceMaker, which is supposed to happen in 2 1/2 weeks...guess we'll see.

Good putting round, but the highlight was an 18" putt for 14 skins on the last hole.

Ok, I HAVE to know more about the 14 skins!!!  That must have been a competitive group!!
