Had fun playing today before watching the Masters. Walked and played in three hours! Course was soaked but the greens were rolling good. No penalty strokes, no double

chips, no doubles, 1 three putt, -3 on the par fives. Couple terrible tee shots, but hit some really close approaches to make up for it. I’m not sure what the handicapped holes are so I listed all of my birdies (6).

I usually play Wednesday and Friday afternoons and Saturday and Sunday mornings. I tend to shoot right around net par at least one of those days. Yesterday was the anomaly with the net 68. Today, I was warming up as normal and hit the first few shots perfectly with the gap wedge. Then hit 5 shanks in a row followed by 5 pull hooks. I was trying to work this out when they said we were teeing off an hour early so that I could get home when the wife told me to be home. 
 

This had me playing scared all day with the irons. So all day my misses were 15 yards left. My weakness right now is the 5-20 yards from the green and short sided. I was there a lot today. I shot 83 net 76. Still with just 27 putts.

Putter = A  

Should I be posting every round or just the good ones for the week?

All of the rains in Northern CA have left most of the courses nearby a little marshy to be nice.  A few dry days have helped firm up the course and this week I didn’t lose any balls in the fairway, lol.

Old Orchard is a really fun course design. The blue tees are probably too much distance for me at 6600+ yards, but I played 1-15 from blue because I played a par 61 yesterday I wanted to get longer approaches today.

I joined the solo behind me to finish and we played white tees. I finished triple-double-bogey, so maybe messed myself up with a new partner mid round, but made a new friend and we exchanged information to play again in the future so that was happy. I have friends who say they play golf, but none of them follow through and actually do it.

I would put this course high on the list of local central NJ courses I would love to see refurbished. I understand the mixed reviews now, the greens are bumpy and the grass is unevenly kept. A few holes you play with a major highway adjoining the tee box 20 feet away. The tee boxes are chewed up and some of the signage is missing. But it is also beautiful in places. In terms of strictly course design I love it. Upkeep gets a kind C-.

Same exact score as yesterday, except I only had one double instead of two.  Felt like I played better, but can't score on punched greens.

@RoverRick great job on the greens today. 27 putts is solid! Tough when you are missing both ways with the irons. I’d play conservative if it’s not going well. Middle of the greens and try to avoid any penalties. ️

I didn’t have a 2 way on the course. The 2 way comes from not enough rotation and too much hands. Because of knee and ankle issues, this is a recurring theme, so I aim right and err on the side of too much. I also take more club and shorten the swing.

@RoverRick no harm to post all your rounds.. Your best net score is used for the weekly low net, but your long drive or most birdies can come from a different round.  Also it should be noted that only your lowest score is used for the points calculation for the year long MGS Forum Cup.  - But we all love seeing the different scores and comments for each.  Think of us as the clubhouse after the round where you get to sit and talk about the good and bad shots you hit during your round, over a frosty beverage of your choice

I don't do mornings. The course was open until noon so we grabbed a morning tee time. Nothing felt right. My swing was trashed. Putting just wasn't there except for the hole in the image below. That was a miracle putt by all means. Pulled  the drive but it worked out thanks to a little fence help. Didn't pull my 2nd shot, just didn't aim. Had a putter in my hand instead of a wedge and decided I could make it work from about 10 feet into the rough. Keep in mind this is a hard breaking downhill putt from that position and the greens were especially quick. Anyways, gave it a whack and the ball stopped a couple feet from the hole. Tapped it in for par.

Highlight of my round was chipping in from off the green TWICE (#12 and #15)!

I can thank a tail wind, the thin Denver air, and the rock hard fairway for a monster drive on #3.

Felt pretty good for the first round of the season.

@Golfspy_TCB my course handicap was +2. The form was a little awkward when I tried to enter the "+2". My net score was still even.

Some good scores for week 1. Some long drives too! Ohio right now has some soft conditions lol need to get some roll. I do have a couple of downhill holes where I might be able to get long drive. Need that downhill, downwind, firm conditions.

Well, I think you win Season 2 for the first to break our form this season... haha.  I broke it last season by shooting below par, and had it fixed... but I didn't think about a "plus" handicap.  I'll work on that fix.

I got busy last night and through today, is it too late to post my round from yesterday?  During season 1 the post button stayed up for a bit after the close.  Not looking for badges (didn't earn any by a long shot), but wanted to get it on the board if possible.  Sometimes wearing your shame is the best medicine!

Season 2 Kick-Off Week was  INCREDIBLE!!

53 (FIFTY THREE) individual scores posted during the first week of Season 2.  

Oh, yeah... I think there was another tournament going on last week... but I think this one was MORE POPULAR. 

(Green Jacket... Black Jacket... I think I know which one looks better on...  ). 

 

Not only did we have a record number of scores posted.... the quality of play makes me strongly considering some golf lessons!  

We had 14 scores that were below par on the net side - including a 5 way tie for first place!  WOW!
