Popular Post azstu324
Played my little exec yesterday. One of my best scores there at 63 (1 over). Putt count was decent at 27. Back 9 was a scramble fest with just 1 GIR I seem to have found a fairly consistent extra gear on my driving lately. I'm sure the heat is helping too but in general I'm hitting the ball a good 20-30 yds further than last year and with much more consistency. Pin high drive at 343 yds was never even a thought. Kenny B
39 minutes ago, JerryB said: Owen and I got out to Byron yesterday to play Prairie View for the first time. Probably the best course I've ever played. Definitely the toughest, and the most well maintained. Its a municipal course but they've got plenty of money from the nearby nuclear plant. Greens were hard, undulating, and way faster that anything I'm used to. Couldnt putt to save my life. Overall I played poorly, even by my standards. Course was busy and we were waiting on every tee box. Pace of play was actually decent (we finished in under 4.5 hours) but its slower than we're used to and it really affected me personally. Just couldnt get into a rhythm. My tee shots traveled but were wayward. Whether I used driver or 3 wood, they were mostly leaky right. My second shots were mostly abysmal; lots of chunks. Not a flat piece of land outside the tee boxes. Lost six balls; probably could have found a few of them but I was overly worried about holding up the group behind us even though we had groups in front of us too. It's a mental thing that I really need to do better about. I never settled in and took the time for pre shot and pre putt routines. Irons are still coming along. While my aim and setup is better, I now have a tendency to hook them to the left. But overall they weren't the liability they've been recently. Owen had recently re-gripped them for me and it has made a big difference. I played 51/53 104 (+31) and Owen shot upper 90s. Despite my miserable time we loved the place and would like to get out there again. Definitely a challenge we need to conquer! View from one of the holes: Glad to see the plant is still running!! I've been playing summer golf here since highschool (I'm 43) and anything north of 110° I say no sir! That said, 110°+ in windy conditions and no humidity, you're basically playing golf in a microwave. That's a HARD pass right there! I know the humidity isn't fun either and would definitely take the dry heat but there is still a hard line where a good time and bat $hit crazy are standing nose to nose. ... Keep in mind I have only one spent one full summer here so the 110-118 is still kinda new to me. Popular Post gavinski91
Bit of a weird round on Saturday. Felt like I was hitting the ball decently well on the front nine, but was punished by bad bounces and lies a bunch of times (eg. drive missed the fairway by 2 yards and ends up on a 45° slope). Struggled a bit with putting as well, and made the turn with a 48. Fortunately on the back nine the bad bounces started to go away and my ballstriking improved incrementally, enough to come in with at 38 (my second lowest 9-hole score ever) and card an 86 (net +1). I know country clubs move pins at least every other day, if not every day, and I understand that not every public course has those resources. Popular Post sirchunksalot
A group of guys and myself got out today after work and played nine holes at Bear Trace. We played best ball in pairs just to quicken the pace. Me and my guy shot +6 through 8 because we got stormed out on the 9th. It was a beautiful day to be out and I was excited because it's the first time I've been on the course when it was green. My driver, wedges, and putter were the performers for me today because I couldn't hit an iron for love nor money. I was suffering through a horrible case of the shanks and couldn't rectify it. It was me and not the clubs. I hit several fairways and had the best driving day I had in a long time. I hit a bunch of wedges close and nearly sank a pitch shot for bid on the final hole, it just skidded by. I also drained a 24 foot downhill putt on the day. I told the guys that even if I didn't play well I wanted to hit at least one shot that made them go "wow", I think I did that. We also saw some wildlife out on the course. Now at least I know what the subject of my next lesson will be: the shanks. I had a great time getting out there playing with the guys. I'm hoping this is the start of a regular game. Popular Post tommc23
I played a very up-and-down round today. Had some sporadic rain which would go from a drizzle to an absolute downpour. I was also fighting a two-way mess for a large portion of the day. This led to me losing quite a few balls in the water, which I haven’t done in well over a year. I couldn’t remember the last time I went through nearly a half dozen balls. Still scored a 96 but that’s pretty bad for the front 9 being mostly bogeys and pars. Popular Post RollingGreens
Well me and my partner finished 3rd last on Sunday from 8th on Saturday. We both shot a poor 90 on Sunday. I had the hex on me all day. I hit a beautiful drive on the par 5. I had 230 in to reach in 2 and 4 people from the maintenance partner came out to stand in the green. Of course I missed my shot off the toe it was a stinger and missed clearing the creek by an inch. It hit the rocks and came back 30 yards. Likely costing me a stroke or two. On 14 I drove the green 280ish. Missed my eagle putt for a skin by a foot. Caught every bunker lie in the corners where all the sand is currently hanging out. Just didn’t catch many breaks. Not their favorite but it was just rain so I kept my day off work and played on! My solution for how to stay dry despite driving persistent rain with a golf cart, for a no-hands approach bungee cords are gold. The course was mostly empty and a group of men a few holes ahead of me were the only ones who had not cancelled for the day. With nobody behind I took time to enjoy the day to include a sandwich lunch watching the soaking rain while staying dry. It reminded me of one vacation picnic with my family when I was 8, we were on Cape Cod and a couple asked my parents if they could take a photo of us wearing our raincoats having a picnic in the rain saying people would not believe them if they didn't have one, and I am sure Mom and Dad were right there with me on top of the ridge by the 9th tee box of the Hill Course watching the curtains of rain passing by. There were some Turkeys on the 16th fairway, of the feathered kind. The sun did come out before I finished, for a little while and then rain did return as soon as I was ready to leave for home and it was soaking everything again. Don't ever put off what you want to do because now will never happen again. 48 front 9, 49 back 9, played from the white tees first time, have always played gold but now with a driver dialed in it is like a new game again only this time things are going where I want them to go! 97 for the day, Net 74 so very happy considering the conditions today 4 pars, 5 bogies, 7 doubles, and 2 triples :: 3 3-putts, 11 2-putts, 3 1-putts and 1 hole-out no putt for 34 total putts. Might be I'm finally starting to get this game. I couldn't deal with pins that got moved twice a week at best. I'd play Sat & Sun and have the pin both days. I know country clubs move pins at least every other day, if not every day, and I understand that not every public course has those resources. But pins should be set on Sat, Sun, and Tue or Wed at least 3 times per week. We are a muni and are pins are moved Tue-Thu-Sat and Sun. Fridays and Saturdays are our busiest golf days of the week. They do a pretty good job most of the time... no volcanoes, but sometimes the holes are not always cut vertically. My wife thinks that if one side of the inside of a hole is a little more visible, then the ball breaks... I know better! Still contemplating whether I want to call my partner out for under reporting his handicap, it seems that he never puts any of his scores in, only adding the good ones I'd audition for a new partner. Not their favorite but it was just rain so I kept my day off work and played on! ... Not to sound like a broken record and I certainly remember bemoaning rainy springs in Chicago and wishing we could go a month without rain but it has not rained here since last October. 8 months without a drop and I would LOVE to have several rounds completely rained out. Popular Post DStar
Not me but took my youngest (7) to the practice ground for the 1st time yesterday. She's been asking to go for a while and finally had a chance as the wife is away and her sister was at a youth bible group. She really enjoyed it and, even though the club is still a little long for her, managed to hit some good shots so is keen to go again. This is her 1st time hitting proper golf balls. I'm chuffed she's a lefty too 20220607_192419.mp4 cksurfdude, sirchunksalot, Shapotomous and 13 others 8 8 Quote Aerojet F9 3/4 Wood Aldila NV 2KXV Blue JPX921SEL 4-PW Nippon Modus³ Tour 120 X SM8 50° F-Grind SM8 54° F-Grind SM8 58° K-Grind DStar 'Malvern' Putter AVX & -ProV1X Tour-X "Hey mister, your clubs are the wrong way round"..
