Damn! That "fairway" is absolutely diabolical, evil, un-called for and just plain mean looking! I think I'll go with a putter off the tee instead...WOW!

That fairway looks anything but fair!   I think I would have been inclined to put the driver in the bag after the 3rd attempt and either run my 5i down that track or use the new OB rule and take the 2 stroke penalty just to avoid having to attempt the tee shot again. In a way, if something like that is going to happen, it's good it does very early in a round.  Can you imagine having a fantastic round going, get deep into the back nine, and have this finish? 

 I remember Kevin Na making a similar score some years back, but looks like Mr. DeArmond still hasn't unseated Ray Ainsley's all time worst record 23 on #16, at the 1938 U.S. Open.

I’d aim for the sand on the left... at least the ball would stop.

Along these lines I’ll share this one. I’ve told this before but there is one moment I am most proud of in my short and non-illustrious golf career.

It was a Pro-Assistant tournament in the SE Florida chapter 14 years ago. About two months into the season our second assistant quit the golf business and moved back home to PA. My boss and I were overworked and had zero time to play.

Long story short, we shot 85 on a 2-man best ball.

We posted it and actually laughed. The Marshall taking scorecards shook our hands and said it took a load of character to post that score among some really solid players.

Funny thing was the other two we played with were Jim Herman and his boss. For those of you who don’t know who he is, he played his way into the Masters in 2016 with a ridiculously legit win at the Shell Houston.

Golf is hard.
