Scotland - Old Course, Royal Dornach, Gullane and Dundonald

Have made 2 trips over and can’t get enough.  There is nothing like the Old Course. Played 3 rounds in the 2 trips. Used a caddy twice, well worth it. Both were real smart-asses that were fun to banter with. Sticking shot to 8 feet on 18 for the crowd was great although missed the putt. Next round, I was 7 over and shanked second shot off hotel to shoot 80.  That 11th hole is a challenge and I did not pat it any day.  For those of you that haven’t played there, it is a much  walking on the ground feels different, but remember

Royal Dornach was a perfect Scottish day as attire needed changing each hole. Doubled 18 for 77. Good memories from here since Delta lost my luggage for 4 days and they bought me Foot Joy DNAs,  a nice umbrella, skullcap , markers and Dozen balls.

Gullane was a interesting but not quite as much character as the others.

Dundonald was hidden gem. Not quite the coastal course as other courses on that stretch of the west, but a great test.  It was most fun, although toughest round.  I got fortunate to play with 3 members, one being a former Scottish Am champ.  We had a good 4 ball match and they took care of lunch and breakfast. A truly memorable experience.

Always take a picture of a beer (and maybe a Scotch) to toast friends and family not here anymore and remember the good time.

How did you get on the old course twice? Did you get lucky with the lottery twice or did you work with a golf travel company that guaranteed it? I'd love to take a Scotland trip someday, and I would definitely pay extra to guarantee an old course round.

The best (cheapest) way to get on the Old Course is to apply through the Advance Reservation System.  The application goes in late summer or early fall for the following year.  If you're successful, you can plan all the rest of your trip around the times at St Andrews.
